[Bonus chapter] Now the real show begins.
"If those men died, our company will lose hundreds of billions and our stock market will fall to hell. He couldn't afford to lose that much money, Wolf."2
The moment the chief of intelligence heard what Dominic called him, the languid expression on his face died. He held Dominic's gaze coldly and his shoulder tensed up a little.
"Bernard, was it you?" The chief of the central intelligence asked the person nearby, but he kept his eyes on Dominic. "Did you run your mouth to your new employer?"
"No." Dominic shook his head mildly. "I think you, of all people, should know Mr. Cruel isn't the type to talk about his previous colleagues and previous job experiences."
Wolf narrowed his eyes, aware of the level of knowledge Dominic had about him. The latter didn't need to spell it out for him. Just the fact that Dominic knew he and Bear were previous colleagues revealed Dominic knew things he shouldn't.
"It's not Tiger or Bear or Moose who told me things about the Reapers, Wolf." Dominic drew a deep breath as he peeled his eyes from the man. "It's not even Joker."
"Haha…" Wolf let out a short and dry chuckle, leaning back and relaxing his tensed muscles. "So, who is it?"
"My informant doesn't want to be known… yet."
'An enemy?'Wolf arched a brow, studying Dominic's side profile. 'No. If it's an enemy, then Bernard wouldn't just stand there like a gobshite.'
"Hearing all this, I supposed there's no need to be careful with my words." Regardless of the questions in his head, Wolf quickly relaxed as he gazed at Bear. "When you reached out to me and I did a background check on you, I was surprised to see these people working for you. It's rare for them to work for the same person. To be honest, I didn't think they would ever work together ever again."
He cocked his head back, eyes sliding to the corner. "Do you also know about that?"
Dominic didn't respond, but his lack of reaction was enough for Wolf to get the answer he wanted. Dominic knew, and even that was still a surprise. Whoever told him everything seemed to know a lot of things about the Reapers.
"Mr. Zhu, do you know that knowing so much about something might put you in danger?" Wolf remarked with a tinge of warning tone. "Is this the reason this No One is after you?"
"No?" Wolf continued, tilting his head to the side. "But even so, there will be more problematic people who will come after you."
"As long as you're not one of them," Dominic replied monotonously. "I'll be fine."
"I don't know if that is a compliment."
"It is… according to my informant." He rocked his head and pressed his lips together. "Anyway, this isn't the reason you came in here, right? I simply said what I know to keep you in touch — whatever ways it is, because I'm afraid you'd cut me off after tonight."
"Oh?" Wolf raised a brow. "That's a surprise."
"Was it really?"
Dominic let out a shallow breath as he lifted his head. His eyes landed on the screen on the stage. Until now, it still showed Axel's screaming photo, as if Primo didn't want him to forget about this loss.
"Now that I think about it, you seemed a little relaxed," Wolf pointed out as he glanced at the screen. "Isn't that your brother? If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't even want to look at it. I don't want that photo to be the last memory of a person I hold close to my heart."
"I have to remember this photo," said Dominic, earning Wolf's attention once again. "To remind myself that I have to avenge my brother. He's a lovely young man. Although annoying at times and mischievous, he's my brother — more like my eldest — whom I promised to protect along with my family."
"And you failed to protect him."
"At least I can avenge him." Dominic's jaw tightened, keeping his sharp eyes on the photo on the large screen. "I cannot take his pain away, but at least with this, I can only hope to soothe his soul."
Wolf raised his brows and chuckled. "What a scary man, but then again, how are you going to soothe his soul? You'd be dead."
"If I die, it'd be the same for you." Dominic looked back at the man, holding his gaze sternly. "Am I correct?"
Wolf pressed his lips while its corners were curled up into a smile. "I don't think so. I've reached this far just not to get this far. And I'm here because of my ambition, not for death."
A moment of silence befell their shoulders as they held each other's gazes. Nothing was said, but their eyes were already talking. Moreover, both of them knew the real reason this man some people called Wolf was in this place.
"It almost slipped my mind." Wolf snapped his tongue as a thought suddenly crossed his mind. "Didn't you say your wife was here? Do you think she was able to get out of this place?"
"No."
"Hmm?" Wolf cocked his head to the side, studying Dominic up and down. "You didn't seem worried like the first time you thought of her."
"Even if she has the chance to get out, she won't leave."
"And why is that?"
"Because her husband is still here." His answer was rather quick and confident. "That is why I can't die yet, or everyone else will."
"Oh?"
Dominic took a deliberate pause as he looked at the man again. "She'll exterminate everyone. And I'm not saying this as a mere metaphor. I meant it literally."
"You must have a scary wife."
"A real spawn of evil, you can say. Though her name suggests otherwise." Dominic slowly shifted his eyes to the corner, catching multiple people coming into the hall. He narrowed his eyes to see better since the hall was simply lit with dim lights. Only a few of them weren't enough to lighten up this entire spacious hall.
When the people came closer, Dominic drew a deep breath. There, he saw a man wheeling in Grandma Zhu while Butler Fu followed, but only because of the gun pressed on the back of his head.
Now the real shows begin.
