[Bonus chapter] Reading the open book wrong
Mrs. Deng only gave a small detail that she didn't think was important. But for Axel, it was a huge detail. After spending weeks with Moose and sometimes Gray would tag along, Axel somehow got influenced by their way of thinking. Not their twisted train of thought, though. Gray and Moose might look easy to deal with. However, those guys were good at picking up even the smallest details to gain logical thinking. 1
That was why when Mrs. Deng mentioned the Lyon Group's anniversary, Axel immediately called his brother. Axel might not know the actual plan, but at least they got an idea that Silas might make his move on the night of the company anniversary event.
Nothing changed, though.
That was why, the day before the anniversary event, Axel went to the Lyon Group Headquarters to get more clues. Of course, he bought his sister-in-law some bread on the way, as he hadn't spent time with her. After all, she was busy and so was Axel. They lived under the same roof, but they wouldn't even meet. Both also didn't have the energy to message each other and stay in touch.
Axel thought it would be good if he caught up with her and talked about some important things for tomorrow's event. But alas, Heaven was so busy running errands. Therefore, Axel didn't force it. For sure, Dominic already gave his wife the idea.
That was when he coincidentally met Silas in the elevator. Axel thought he should stay away from his cousin, but from all the training he did, Axel thought he should talk to him. Silas often considers Axel as a fool. Thus, he always had his guard down around him.
In the lift, Silas was the first to break the silence between them.
"How have you been, Axel? I heard you're back to training again, and that you're planning to return to the tracks in a few months."
Axel ignored him.
"That's weird. I thought you wouldn't go back to racing after what happened."
Still, Axel ignored him. However, he couldn't help but arch a brow. Was Silas talking about Axel's suspension in the past? But Silas's next words rattled him to the core.
"You really are something else, Axel. I mean, I admire your strong will in this chosen passion of yours. Even after getting bullied in Cakewalk County by those rogues, you still haven't given up on your dream. That's really amazing, isn't it?"
As soon as Axel heard those words, his heart thudded against his chest. So, Silas was truly involved in it? Fortunately, Heaven already mentioned it to him that night she prepared him dinner. This revelation wasn't new to him, but just like what Heaven said, Silas could read him like an open book.
Her project was for this open book to write its own story and make its readers believe what he wanted them to believe. And right now, even though Axel already knew this and Silas's remarks were simply a confirmation, Axel reacted the way Silas expected him to.
"What did you say?" Axel had his eyes wide open as he faced his cousin. "Silas Zhu, how did you know about that?"
Silas sported a cunning and playful smirk as if he didn't have any intention of hiding his wickedness. Axel mentally smirked at the man's reaction.
'Hah!' Axel couldn't help but mentally scoff in amusement, but it didn't show it on the outside. 'He fell for it, huh? So, this is what my sister wants?'
Despite the argument between them which led to Axel assaulting Silas, Axel was just completely amused by this turn of events. This never happened to him in the past, and it was amazing in its own way. Axel could've thought and reacted differently, and the outcome would have been different as well. But he reacted the way Silas expected him to, and that was why Axel could predict the outcome.
But alas, Tiger came and ruined the moment.
Axel could've pushed Silas to talk more. Even if the latter hurt him more than he already had, he was certain he could push Silas to reveal more about his plan. But well, Tiger came and Axel had to stand back down. Still, despite watching the exchange between Silas and Tiger, Axel only thought of ways to get clues before the day ended.
If Axel could find out Silas's true plan, then things would be easier for Dominic and Heaven. It was also the reason Axel tagged along with Tiger as the latter inspected the building. Axel hoped he could find out about something while inspecting the building, but sadly, everything was clear.
This was what they kept telling him about Silas. The man was careful enough and he wouldn't be so foolish in making a very obvious plan. So even when Tiger and Axel parted ways, Axel couldn't help but wonder what Silas was up to.
That was when he caught Silas entering the lift.
"Where's he going?" Axel wondered as he approached the same lift Silas had entered. He stood in front of it while looking up at the numbers above the elevator. "The underground parking, huh? What is he going to do there?"
From what Axel knows, Silas's designated parking space was on the ground floor. Dominic and some important employees like Dane Zhang, Tiger, and a few members of the board of directors only used the underground parking. If Silas was going out during office hours, then he should go to the ground parking space where his car was parked.
'If your hunch tells you about something, you should listen to it. Most likely, it's right.'
Axel's expression turned solemn as he remembered Moose's advice not long ago. It was a piece of advice Moose told him when he asked about how he kept winning the games he was playing.
'My hunch tells me…'Axel slowly reached for the underground parking button as his eyes sharpened. '... the second bait has to move today.'
A glint flickered across his eyes as the elevator produced a loud 'ding' sound, and he stepped inside, heading to the underground parking to follow Silas.
