[Bonus chapter] scared
Heaven's heart thudded against her chest as she stared at the two lines in the small device in between her fingers. She unconsciously held her breath, eyes wide and unblinking. The silence in the bathroom increased until it turned unbearably ear-splitting. 2
Knock knock!
Heaven jumped, dropping the pregnancy test at the sudden noise that disrupted the silence.
"Heaven?" Dominic's voice followed from the other side of the door. "Is everything okay?"
Heaven slowly turned her head at the door, staring at it, terrified. Her heart was still racing and skipping beats, taking a step back on instinct.
"My love?" he called, knocking once more. "Tell me if everything is alright. Otherwise, I have to go in."
"Uh…" she cleared her throat and shook her head, trying to recompose herself from the shock she was in.
"I…" her voice cracked, making her clear her throat once again. "I'm okay! Just taking a dump — I'll be out in a minute!"
Silence followed.
Dominic didn't speak anymore, making her glance at the small gap underneath the door. He was still standing outside.
"Goodness," she breathed out, combing her hair back with her fingers. "Why am I acting as if I'm in a horror movie? There's nothing to be scared of."
Heaven shook her head again, trying to get herself together. When her eyes fell on the pregnancy test on the floor, she huffed once more. It took her a full thirty seconds before she picked up the pregnancy test.
Again, she flipped it to see the two lines in it.
"I'm pregnant?" she muttered, pressing her lips into a thin line. "No. It must be wrong."
Heaven moved her gaze to the other box in the sink. Ivy bought her two boxes and at first, she thought Ivy was simply wasting money. But now she understood why Ivy bought two. If Heaven knew what she knew now, she would've told her friend to buy her ten.
One pregnancy test wasn't enough to convince a person. With that thought in mind, Heaven tested the other one. Unlike her first try, she did it much faster. Probably with the surge of adrenaline through every fiber of her body, she was more efficient on the second try.
She waited anxiously.
This time, she placed the pregnancy test on the flat surface around the sink. She paced back and forth, biting the tip of her thumb while glancing at the pregnancy test every three seconds. When a full minute had passed, which felt like an eternity, she stood in front of the sink.
"Let's see…" she whispered, gazing down at the pregnancy test on the flat surface of the sink.
Two lines.
The other line was still a blur, but this also happened in the first test. It took her around five minutes to see the other line clearly.
"Ah, gosh…" Heaven rested her hands on the edge of the sink, hanging her head low. "Why am I so anxious?"
She was already experiencing major anxiety even before taking the test, but now that she did, the anxiety, or rather, dread in her heart, solidified.
Why?
Was this normal?
'Just what sort of result do I really want?'she asked herself, biting her lips as she looked at the pregnancy test with conflict. "To be honest, I don't know whether I want to be pregnant right now or don't want a positive result."
Everything was just… confusing. All the emotions and thoughts she had the moment pregnancy was mentioned were something she never felt before. But for sure, it was a major source of anxiety and stress.
Another five minutes had gone by slowly.
Again, there were two lines in the pregnancy test. Two clear red lines.
"Hah…" a deep breath escaped her parted lips, speechless. "God…"
Having two pregnancy tests that told her she was pregnant brought mixed emotions to her heart. And all these emotions were strong and conflicting with each other, affecting her train of thought. Her mind couldn't think clearly.
Knock knock
After another moment of nothing but silence, another round of knocks came from outside the bathroom.
"My love," Dominic's voice was heard again, worried laced his voice as his wife was taking longer in the bathroom. "Are you sure everything is okay?"
Heaven didn't answer.
Dominic furrowed his brows and knocked carefully once more, yet his wife didn't answer him. "I'm going in if you don't answer, Heaven."
Nothing.
"Are you still mad about last night?" he asked in distress as he couldn't help but think about that because his wife had been giving him cold shoulders since morning. "Heaven, can we please talk? I'm getting worried, my love. Just tell me what you want to hear and I'll say it… Just… just don't ignore me."
His lips pressed as pain flickered in his eyes. "I don't like that you're not talking to me or purposely ignoring me. Can we please fix the problem instead of prolonging it? I'll apologize if I made a mistake. So, can we please talk, Heaven?"
There was no other way Heaven would lock herself in the bathroom if it wasn't about last night. After all, she ignored him throughout the night even when he was hugging her from behind. And when he woke up, Heaven was already gone to continue to distance herself.
He was already used to that before, but not anymore.
He hated it with passion and the stress of this would only continue to pile up if they didn't talk it out. Deep in his heart, he was certain he couldn't end the day without bugging her to talk. Otherwise, he might lose his mind tomorrow.
"Heaven." Dominic raised his fist to knock once again, but before his fist could touch it, the door slowly opened from the inside. His eyes fell on the person on the other side, only to furrow his brows upon noticing the tears forming in the corner of her eyes.
"Dom." Her voice was airy and shaky as a tear rolled down her cheek. "What am I going to do? I'm… scared."
"What do you mean…?" he trailed off as he caught her hand open between them. Gazing down at it, his pupils dilated at the two pregnancy tests, with both of them containing two red lines.
