Went well than I thought
Heaven's negative feelings about the pregnancy were replaced with positivity and excitement with Dominic's company. Although she couldn't safely say there wasn't fear anymore, she knew she had her husband with her throughout this journey. 0
But before all of that, they had to think of how to break the news to their firstborn.
When Sebastian woke up, his mother and father were already in the room with him. His mother was on the other side of the bed while his father was on the chair near her.
"Huh?" Sebastian blinked wearily, darting his eyes between Heaven and Dominic and noticing the suppressed smile on their faces.
"Did you have a nice sleep, baby?" asked Heaven, moving closer to him and casually stroking his hair.
"Mhm." He nodded and then shifted his eyes to his father. "Why is Daddy here?"
"Your daddy and I were just talking," explained Heaven as she watched her son look back at her. "Baby, are you hungry? Do you want some snacks?"
"No." Sebastian shook his head before leaning to his mother, hugging her waist. "Mommy, am I going to have a little sibling?"
Huh?
Heaven's eyes instantly went wide at her son's random question. How did he know?
"It seems like you and Daddy are about to say something important," Sebastian explained with a muffled voice. "Is it because I'm going to be a big brother?"
Her wide eyes slowly softened, turning her head to Dominic. The latter's shocked look also faded, looking back at his wife. The corner of their mouths curled up into a subtle smile before they set their attention to their son.
Surely, Sebastian was sharp and often surprised them in ways they couldn't fathom. The couple was concerned about breaking this news to Sebastian, but he already had an idea about it.
"Baby." Heaven held her son's shoulders, pushing him away gently to look at his face. "Yes, you are right. You will become a big brother soon."
Sebastian's lips curved down slightly while a layer of tears coated his eyes. Seeing his reaction, Heaven panicked.
"Baby, what's wrong?" she asked, cupping his face. "Don't you want a little brother or sister?"
"Mommy, are you going to leave me now because you have a new baby?"
"What? No!"
"But I heard that the firstborn always gets tossed aside because a new baby takes away the parent's affection," he explained, teary-eyed. "I don't want to have a sibling."
"Baby..." Her voice sounded gentler, pressing her lips into a thin line as she glanced at Dominic for help. However, Dominic simply rubbed his chin as he nodded.
Why was he nodding as if that was not a bad thing?
'Gosh... I can rely on him for other things, but I can't expect him to be perfect.' Heaven mentally sighed as she faced her son. 'After all, he didn't mind losing his parent's affection and actually preferred it that way.'
"Baby, that's not true." Heaven smiled lovingly at Sebastian, cupping his face with both her hands. "Even if you have another sibling, that doesn't mean mommy will love you less."
Sebastian bit his bottom lips. "Promise?"
"Yes, I promised." Her smile formed into a reassuring one. "You will always be Mommy's number one baby. You'll only become a big brother, but you'll be my forever baby."
Sebastian studied the genuine sincerity in her eyes, putting his heart at ease. Having a sibling was not a big deal for him, but he was afraid a baby would mean losing his mother's affection. It was okay if Dominic loved the other child better, but he wouldn't take it well if he lost his mother's affection.
"Will it be a baby sister?" he asked out of plain curiosity. "Mommy, I want a baby sister."
"What if it's a boy?" this time, Dominic chimed in, earning his son's attention.
"I want a girl."
"What will you do if it's a boy?"
"Ahem!" Heaven cleared her throat, intervening before the two could start an argument. "Basti, we just learned today that I have a baby in my tummy. So, we don't know the gender yet and it'll take a few months before we know. Anyway, regardless if it's a boy or a girl, my Basti will take care of him or her as a big brother, right?"
Reluctance flickered across the little master's eyes, but the expectant look twinkling in his mother's eyes compelled him to give in.
"Yes!" he said with a wide grin. "I'll be a better big brother than Daddy to Uncle Axel!!"
"..." Dominic blinked, telling himself he heard his son wrong. Meanwhile, Heaven could not help but burst out in laughter. Well, she couldn't blame her son.
If one didn't know Dominic well, they would also think he was a heartless big brother. But in this case, no matter how sharp Sebastian could be, he was still a child.
"Mommy…" Sebastian warily placed his hand on his mother's tummy. "The baby is here?"
Her eyes softened, smiling. "Yes." She held the back of her son's hand that was on her stomach.
Her smile stretched wider as Sebastian looked up at her, smiling back at her.
"Can I listen to it?" he asked, earning a nod from his mother.
With that being said, Sebastian moved his head down until his ear was on her stomach. Heaven couldn't help but smile even broader, stroking her son's hair. She knew Sebastian wouldn't hear anything right now, but seeing him like this brought this bubble of excitement in her heart.
'Well, that went better than I expected.'Meanwhile, Dominic smiled affectionately at his wife and son. 'I thought he would throw a tantrum, knowing how possessive he could be. But perhaps he knew he couldn't stress her and put her health in danger.'
His thoughts halted when Heaven set her eyes on him. His brow rose as she nodded slightly before she reached her hand to him.
"Heh." Dominic let out a short chuckle, taking her hand and joining them on the bed
While Sebastian was listening to her tummy, Dominic sat on the edge of the bed to hold her hand. The couple smiled lovingly at each other before setting their attention to their son.
What a wonderful day it was!
From a family of three, they would soon become four. And this time, they would do things correctly.
