Don't go too deep

"We didn't see any drone flying around, nor there is one caught in any footage around the building." Dane lowered his head as he stood in front of the desk. "Sir, are you sure it's a drone?"2

Dominic, who was sitting on the swivel chair, spun it around to look at the floor-to-length window. His brows were furrowed, deep in thought. After receiving that message from the drone, it flew up. He ordered his people to check anything that could be connected to the drone, but to no avail.

"You are invited to the circus," he whispered, tapping his finger against the armrest. "What a strange invitation."

There was nothing noteworthy about that invitation aside from the clown logo at the end. There was no venue or anything that it was about. It was just too vague, giving him mixed emotions about what sort of invitation it was.

'It didn't look like it's a death threat,' he thought, comparing it to all death threats he received recently.

At this point, Dominic had grown numbed at the death threats he had received since starting the new business venture. Most of them were simply letters that contained a warning. Not that those parcels ever succeeded in landing in his office as his security scanned everything that was addressed to Dominic.

"How baffling," he murmured, forgetting his assistant was still in his office.

"Sir, did you really see a drone that projected an invitation?" Dane's voice brought Dominic back to the current lapse, making the latter turn his seat a bit to look at him. "Why didn't you call me? What if it carries an explosive?"

"I noticed the model immediately." Dominic peeled his gaze from him, setting them back to the city view ahead. "I think the person controlling it purposely used an old model so as not to scare me away."

"Sir…" Dane frowned, sighing. "Modified drones aren't new. Old models can be modified to be dangerous."

"I know that." Dominic leaned back comfortably. "Did I do something to lose your confidence in me, Mr. Zhang? I'm certain you will understand my actions more than anyone."

Dane pressed his lips into a thin line, lowering his eyes. It wasn't that he lost trust and confidence in Dominic. Dominic has been receiving more death threats recently than he did last year.

It was concerning.

Although the death threats stopped coming after the recent incident, Dane Zhang still couldn't lower his guard. Especially after hearing that there was a particular boss in the underground who monopolized the mining business and was now targeting some businessmen.

"I'm sorry if that is what it appeared." Dane let out a deep exhale. "I'm just worried, that's all."

"Do you also think my actions recently were aggressive?"

"Yes."

"Could have I done better?"

This time, Dane Zhang couldn't reply immediately. Thinking about Dominic's question somehow put clarity to him. Dominic might've been aggressive, but at the same time, his boss had been working hard for the past years. This rough path was inevitable because Dominic had always been going in the same direction.

"No." Dane huffed quietly once again. "I now realize it was me who was overwhelmed and wasn't well-prepared for this."

Dominic glanced over his shoulder. "Take a day's rest, Mr. Zhang. My wife and I will be hosting lunch with friends. Use that time to breathe and maybe go on a blind date."

"I don't need a date." Dane frowned. "One is already too troublesome. Anyway, I've already made some arrangements for the change in plans. I will send it to you at the end of the day."

"Mhm."

With that being said, Dane bowed and walked away without idling too much around. When he closed the door behind him, he stood outside for a moment and sighed.

'I need to step up on my game as well. Or else, he'll be in more danger,'He told himself, sighing for the second time before raising his brows. When he raised his head, all he saw was some staff outside and bodyguards were looking at him, baffled.

"Assistant Zhang, are you alright?" asked a female staff curiously.

"Yes, please don't mind me." Dane Zhang offered a weary smile before dragging his feet to his office. As soon as he reached his desk, deep lines resurfaced in between his brows as his eyes landed on a small paper bag.

"Not again…" he grumbled, clicking his tongue as he threw himself on the chair.

Meanwhile, in the cafeteria of the Lyon Group Headquarters. Gray, Fig, and Tiger ate quietly.

"Do you think…" Gray trailed off, snapping his eyes at the people across from him. "... what I'm thinking is correct?"

"I don't know what goes in that head of yours, so no." Tiger chewed loudly, propping his jaw against his knuckles, eyes scanning the wide cafeteria.

"This is good…" Fig, on the other hand, savored his free lunch. "Surely, the food in the office isn't bad. Though home-cooked food in the residence is still the best."

Gray darted his eyes between Tiger and Fig, sighing at their indifference. Just now, before taking their lunch break, they were ordered to look for some drone. Although this order was almost like a secret, Dane Zhang was generous enough to tell them some details.

For instance, a drone which could project a message with a clown tag on it.

There was only one person Gray could think of who could pull such a stunt successfully without leaving any traces behind. The clown logo was already the giveaway; there was no need to even use a percent of his brain to guess.

"Gray… don't think too much about it." Gray snapped his eyes when Tiger spoke indifferently. "If the clown wants to party, just let him be."

"That's not what I'm worried about."

"Worrying over other things is useless." This time, Fig spoke while eating an entire drumstick. "You have to ask yourself first. Are you going deep into this job? Or simply want to keep it until someone fires you? Unless you're clear on that, then there's no point in worrying when your intention is unclear."

Gray frowned, but couldn't argue. "That makes sense…" he mumbled, assessing Fig's nonchalant countenance, and then Tiger, who was still looking away, deep in thought.

'That damn woman...'Tiger mentally sighed, puzzled. 'Even after telling all that, she wouldn't budge. I thought she would bug me for information, but she didn't! So annoying.'
