[Bonus chapter]It was worth the try

"It's okay, darling." Heaven patted Dominic's chest, nodding at him reassuringly. "I'll walk them out."0

Reluctance flickered across Dominic's eyes, gripping his phone tightly.

"Sorry," he sighed, as he planted a peck on top of her head.

"You already accompanied us, so that's more than enough." Heaven chuckled, tapping his chest mildly, before taking a step away from him.

The two of them smiled at each other before Heaven went to see her guests out. Meanwhile, Dominic stood in the same spot and when his wife was at a safe distance, he gazed down at his phone with a grim expression.

His screen was showing a clown logo that was the same as the logo he saw a few days ago.

"Thank you for having us, my dearest." Director Guan held Heaven's hands, looking at the latter appreciatively. "Goodness. I feel like tearing up. I'm really happy for you."

Heaven smiled, squeezing Director Guan's hands. "Thank you, Director Guan. I really appreciate it."

"You take care, always, okay?"

"You too, and congratulations on your film." She nodded. "I'm putting my hand on my chest and swear it's another hit."

"Haha. You flatter me. Anyway, keep in touch... also, Heaven, I'm sending you a cheque in a few days."

"Huh?" Heaven furrowed her brows. "Why?"

Director Guan chuckled awkwardly. "I had a dispute with the producers and investors and thought that you were paid unjustly. So, we have to make up for that. It took me a while, sorry."

"Ohh..." Heaven rocked her head as her lips formed an o-shape.

Meanwhile, the rest who were with them, waiting for their turn to bid Heaven farewell, couldn't help but cast Director Guan a disgusted look. How could Heaven not see that Director Guan didn't have an intention on this matter until he found out Heaven was Dominic's wife? And that he was simply scared Dominic would hear how much the production paid Heaven.

"Thank you, Director Guan." The corner of her mouth stretched from ear to ear until her eyes were squinting. "You didn't have to, but I appreciate the thought."

"..." The rest looked at Heaven with slight disappointment. But well, Heaven probably didn't need it, since her husband was none other than Dominic Zhu.

"Keep in touch, okay?" Director Guan hugged Heaven tightly. "I'll visit you when I have time."

"Sure." Heaven chuckled, tapping Director Guan's back. "You guys are always welcome here."

With that being said, Heaven bid the rest farewell, hugging them. They also wished her the best and safety of her pregnancy, expressing their joy at this great news. The last person who stood in front of her was Leo Wu. The rest were already walking away, heading to the driveway.

"Heaven." Leo smiled and earned a smile back from her. "Congratulations again."

"Thanks, Senior Wu."

The two of them smiled at each other as a momentary silence befell them. Ever since the group lunch started, Leo had been quiet. Although he would once in a while contribute to the conversation, Director Guan mostly led the discussions. It wasn't that he displayed any awkwardness in Heaven and Dominic's presence.

"I know this is quite overdue, but I'm really sorry for that time," he expressed sincerely, offering her a gentle smile. "I felt like I hadn't genuinely apologized to you for that, and thank you."

Leo's gentle countenance cracked a little. "Thank you for not bending, just to not hurt me. I was foolish to believe other people, but I was at fault, too. At the end of the day and at some point, I wanted to believe them because it somehow gave me hope. So, I'm really sorry about that time."

"The slap of truth is painful, but... it woke me up and forced me to face reality." This time, his countenance looked more peaceful. "You're the first woman I can truly say I loved so much, and also someone I cannot have in this lifetime. Even so, I'm happy seeing that you are happily married to the man who can give you the world."

Leo nodded at her encouragingly, his eyes shining with genuine sincerity. He raised his hand, planting it on top of her head to pat her.

"I wish you only the best in this life, Heaven," he added quietly. "I can't say I had moved on that easily. After all, I held on to you all these years. But... I'm hopeful that one day I can look at you and confidently say I don't love you anymore."

Heaven wanted to tell him something or maybe just wish him luck on his journey of moving on. However, all she could do was smile at him until he bid her farewell.

Watching him walk away, joining everyone who was waiting in the driveway, Heaven couldn't help but feel this sense of peace in her heart.

Leo Wu finally had the proper closure he deserved.

'I'm sorry…'Heaven thought, smiling at them as she waved. '... I hope, in your next life, you and Heaven can have a better love story. But right now, it's my turn.'

Regardless of the threats that plagued Heaven's mind and heart in the past weeks, she appreciated these short interference in between. The original Heaven might have a bad way of judging people, but she wasn't that terrible. After all, these people were the original Heaven's friends, who were now Hera's friends as well.

"I'm so glad they reached out," she whispered, still smiling as she watched the few vehicles drive away from the old residence. "I'm sure the film will be a hit… and they all deserved it. After all, I saw how they worked hard for it."

Her eyes softened, recalling that time she was in the filming. It was quite an experience. Except for Paula's craziness in the filming, Heaven appreciated the craft, effort, and beautiful minds those people had as they worked on the film to completion.

"Though… I realized this experience told me I'm not for it," she whispered, having this clarity just now. "It's not the career I want to pursue, but it was worth the try."

Heaven might consider taking a small project as a hobby, but deep in her heart, it wouldn't be the career she wanted to have. She still didn't know if she wanted to have a future career aside from taking care of her family, but she could figure that out in the future.

For now…

The smile on her face faded as her countenance displayed slight sharpness.

'For now, I have to focus on my family's safety.'
