In the library on the second floor in the Zeng house, when Xia Ning pushed the door open, she saw Zeng Jun and Qiao Yu sitting next to the chess table in front of the window, while Lin Nan was observing.2

When she opened the door, neither looked up. Lin Nan on the side looked over and said with a smile, "Xia Ning, you are here. Come over. President Qiao and Director Zeng are playing chess. Now is the moment."

Xia Ning nodded and walked in. She put her bag on the chair and walked over. She greeted Director Zeng, "Director Zeng."

Zeng Jun nodded. "When we are done, let's discuss the script."

Xia Ning answered, "Sure."

The air in the room was a bit stuffy. Xia Ning knew that if she did not say anything to Qiao Yu here, it would look weird. She turned her head and said to Qiao Yu, "Hello, President Qiao. I did not expect to see you here today."

Qiao Yu looked at Xia Ning and nodded. "Director Zeng wanted more investments. As the investor, I need to know if this movie is worth more money. Therefore, I'm here."

Talking business. That was what he meant. Xia Ning felt relieved. She thought for a moment that he was using the old way in J City, trying to badger her every day.

Because the game was like a war. The two parties would be guessing each other's thoughts. She could not play against him without holding back. She'd be losing easily like this because she would be too distracted.

"Xia Ning, where should I go?" Zeng Jun asked suddenly.

Xia Ning returned to herself and looked at the status on the board. She then realized that she was lost in thought for too long and felt a bit awkward. "I don't know enough to know where to go."

Zeng Jun darted a look at Xia Ning and then said to Qiao Yu across him, "President Qiao, I lost."

Qiao Yu said calmly, "It was pure luck."

Lin Nan said with a smile, "I think both Director Zeng and President Qiao are very good at chess. I'm the only layman here."

Zeng Jun said to Xia Ning, "Could you prepare some tea for us?"

Xia Ning nodded and stood up to prepare the equipment and hot water.

"Director Zeng, did you ask her to leave on purpose?" Qiao Yu asked suddenly.

Zeng Jun frowned. "I did not ask her to come here to be distracted. Let her calm down first. Preparing tea could peace her mind."

Qiao Yu frowned slightly and looked to the door, without telling what was on his mind.

Lin Nan said at once, "Xia Ning has been busy lately. Maybe she did not rest well."

Zeng Jun darted a look at him without any words.

But then Lin Nan realized it was a very bad excuse. Any job would require professionalism first.

"Maybe me being here affected her," Qiao Yu said suddenly. "It's my bad."

Having been in the show business for so long, Lin Nan knew better than anyone else the importance of the funds from the investor. He could not be offended now.

He said with a smile, "No way. Xia Ning is never one of those who hate the rich."

Qiao Yu darted a look at him. "Mr. Lin, you seem to know Miss Xia well. Do you have a good relationship?"
