She did not bow and greet the King, instead staring straight through the enormous palace. She wanted to look into the King's eyes.1

Gu Chaoyan let out a sigh of protest.

De Fu's voice rose again. "Elder Miss and the Elder from Piaomiao Pavilion and the Head and Man from the Cangyan Door are here."

When he said that, it became very noisy in the palace. Apparently, none of the ministers and officers had expected those people to come. They were here for no reason which made them feel very unprepared. They started to panic and whisper among themselves.

The King felt annoyed. He gave a displeased cough, quieting down everyone in the hall. They all looked among themselves, fearing that they would irritate someone.

Gu Chaoyan sighed.

The court had changed. It did not look like what a court should.

The officers and ministers were confused, but they did not dare to utter a sound.

If Prime Minister Chu and General Liu were both here, things would not have turned out like this.

"Greetings, Phoenix Girl." Elder Qianji passed by Gu Chaoyan and showed a smirk.

The Head from the Cangyan Door and the Elder seemed quite unfazed.

As everyone was seated, silence again permeated the court.

They all got to where they were, either through imperial examination or family inheritance, through difficulties, and none of them had the intention of changing it.

The King must have made a thorough plan since he asked them about this.

So they had nothing to object to.
