Baby Chu hooked his finger, indicating for the puppy to come closer to him, but the dog did not dare to do so. In the end, he broke the ham in half and tempted it with the piece. The puppy looked warily at him still, wanting to go forward yet fearing being hurt.0

In the end, the boy simply put the halved ham on the side and could not care more. After that, he focused on eat his share.

When the puppy saw that the boy was no longer observing, it carefully crept forward and clawed the piece of ham with its paws. With the meat safely delivered to its mouth, it crawled to a corner and gnawed the food in relish.

Perhaps the two of them were so hungry that they both finished off the ham in one straight sitting.

The puppy also gradually let down its guard and slowly went up to cuddle against him. It was seemingly not afraid of him as it sniffed his coat and prodded him.

Baby Chu smiled, then he took the puppy in his arms. While gently stroking its fur, he coaxed. "Good boy, good boy! Will you sleep with me tonight?"

Just as he uttered his question, he saw the dog's ears standing erect. The creature seemed to have detected some presence, for it sharply turned its head over in the direction of the highway with great wariness.

He followed its gaze to look over. Not long after, he heard what seemed to be the sound of a fleet of cars driving near.

"Someone's coming!" Surprised, he stood up with the puppy in his arms. Soon, he saw several cars speeding toward his direction and then whizzing past him.

He did not even have the time to wave before the cars drove further away and out of sight!

"Ah—wait!"

Seeing that the only chance of survival had literally passed him by, the boy hung his head in chagrin. He was about to give up when he realized that this was probably the only chance to live. After thinking hard, he frowned suddenly, decided to put on his shoes again, and gave chase in the direction where the cars had sped toward.

The puppy could intuitively tell what he was going to do and ran after him.

He did not know how long he had run before he suddenly found the row of black cars parked not far ahead. At the same time, there was a very large cargo van nearby. This ray of hope restored him and he ran toward the parked vehicles with much power and motivation.

Upon reaching the cars, however, he found the owners gone. He tried to pull the doors, one vehicle at a time and all seemed to be locked. Just as he was getting desperate, he discovered that the Mercedes-Benz parked at the very front of this entourage was unlocked. He quickly wriggled into the welcoming carriage without second thoughts.

"Wow! It's so warm in here!"

The boy sat on the luxurious leather seat with his heart incomparably satisfied. He carried the puppy into the car, closed the door, and finally kept the cold wind outside the door at bay.

The backseat of the car was gawkingly spacious.

He stretched his pair of legs to lie comfortably on the seat. From the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a cup on the armrest cup holder by the driver's seat. He hesitated for a while before he took the cup. When he removed the cup cover, he was surprised to see that there was some brewed tea.

He sniffed and it was something that smelled good.

Having been thirsty for a while, he had a great time drinking the tea. Still, he was kind-hearted enough to leave a small sip. Holding the cup in his palms, he brought it to the puppy.

"Here! You're thirsty too, aren't you?"

The puppy immediately licked the drink clean with its tongue.

After drinking the tea, the boy was overcome with fatigue by then. Not knowing when the car owner would return, he actually dozed off as he kept himself comfortable inside the vehicle!

The puppy nestled in his arms, licked his hands, whimpered momentarily, and then lay comfortably as it closed its eyes.
