Clang!
"Qin Yan, let me remind you that you can't just press the buzzer randomly. If you're unable to answer the question, or answer it wrong, points will be deducted." Zhang Xiaosheng couldn't stop himself from saying.
He was worried that perhaps Qin Yan didn't understand the instructions and rules clearly.
There was no way she would've thought that if she pressed the buzzer first, she would take away other competitors' chances of answering, right?
Even if she wanted to exploit loopholes, didn't she think this through at all? Wouldn't the judges themselves have thought of these loopholes too and countered them?
How stupid!
"Shengyang high school, please answer," the host said.
Qin Yan ignored Zhang Xiaosheng and firmly answered, "Option B."
"The answer is correct!" The screen lit up as the host shouted it out.
"Please answer the second question." The host lowered his voice. Without a trace of hesitation, another CLANG!
The crowd looked. Qin Yan again.
"Option C."
"Correct." The host continued, "The third…"
The screen had already shown the question before the host could even finish his sentence.
The crowd had only had time to read the very first character.
CLANG!
Zhang Xiaosheng started to get angry. "Qin Yan, have you even finished reading the question?"
"Nope." Qin Yan was extremely honest.
That really angered him. "If you haven't finished reading the question, why are you in such a rush for the buzzer?"
"The rules never said that you must finish reading the question before pushing the buzzer. I press the buzzer and then read the question. As long as I answer within the given time period, then it's fine." She turned toward the host. "Am I wrong?"
The host was speechless and helplessly shook his head. It was indeed just as Qin Yan had said. She hadn't done anything wrong.
"You're so confident, aren't you? You're sure you can answer the question when you haven't even read it?" Zhang Xiaosheng asked her sarcastically.
But ironically, it was as if Qin Yan didn't even recognize or care about his tone. She simply nodded and said, "Yup."
Zhang Xiaosheng was taken aback. He had nothing left to say.
Qin Yan's reply to what he had said made the entire aim of his question useless.
"If student Zhang thinks that all his opportunities have been taken by me, he could follow suit and do the same as I do. Once you hit the buzzer, you can answer." Qin Yan smiled.
Zhang Xiaosheng was left speechless.
Whatever kind of a trick was this…?
If he could have done this, he would've ages ago. Wasn't he confident enough to do so? But if he hit the buzzer and got the answer wrong, points would be deducted from his score.
It'd be even worse if he ended up losing points rather than earning them.
Zhang Xiaosheng felt as if he were being suffocated. Not a single word could come out of his mouth.
From where the spectators were sitting, Han Jun started to make a fuss. "Exactly! You could do the same. It's not like anyone has said that you can't."
Zhang Xiaosheng could only manage to choke out a HMPH. He reluctantly told Qin Yan to answer the question.
He wanted to see if Qin Yan really could answer the next question accurately.
"If you really have the abilities and the skill to keep this up, have at it," Zhang Xiaosheng said begrudgingly.
Then the host asked Qin Yan to answer the question.
"Option A."
"Correct!"
Zhang Xiaosheng was dumbfounded.
He would've never thought that Qin Yan could actually get the answer correct.
He was extremely curious to see whether she could continue answering the rest of the questions correctly. Much to his disbelief, Qin Yan was able to pull this off right up until the very last question of the round. She had pushed the buzzer as soon as she could for all nine questions.
Zhang Xiaosheng had never felt so aggrieved at a competition.
In previous competitions, people would only start the race for the buzzer after reading the questions and digesting themd properly.
Only then would one be able to judge their answers accurately.
When one knew the answers, then they'd be able to compete for the buzzer.
If no one could answer a question, they'd all stand rooted to the spot in an attempt to consider other solutions and gamble upon whether they should hit the buzzer or not.
If the gamble succeeded, then points would be added. But if not, points would be deducted.
No one had ever stumbled across a case and situation like this one with Qin Yan.
Without even reading the question, she would already have pressed the buzzer.
It wasn't that they didn't want to compete for the buzzer. But they hadn't even read the question, so they weren't sure if they knew the answer or not.
If they hastily pressed the buzzer and ended up losing points, that would only result in a loss that far outweighed the gain. It would be better to not compete for the buzzer. At least points wouldn't be deducted.
Of course, these tactical disputes were useless at this stage.
Because Qin Yan won the competition for the buzzer every time, and she could do it without even reading the question. She did it immediately too, right as the question flashed on the screen. Not only that, she answered every single question correctly.
Up until now, none of the other five teams had gained a single point in this round.
Only one of the six players could win the arena contest match.
Their chances of losing were high.
Thus, even if you lost, it wasn't that bad of a defeat. However, if you didn't even manage to achieve a single point, that would be hard for the team to accept.
It was the last question of this round. Zhang Xiaosheng, who hadn't even answered one question, was slowly crumbling to pieces.
He didn't even want to look at the question. He was desperate enough to just push the buzzer to at least try and answer it.
Nothing else mattered. He had to at least win one point.
No matter what, he couldn't go out with a zero.
But what if he didn't know how to answer the last question?2
