Yun Jian put her coffee mug on the table and took out a folder from her bagpack, "Here." She gave the folder to Qin Yan.
Qin Yan extended her hand and grabbed the folder before opening it and reading its contents.
As she read the beginning, she frowned. Reading further, her frown deepened. In the end, she put down the folder deep in thought. Yun Jian did not disturb her and waited patiently for her response as she knew that the contents of the folder were hard to digest.
The folder mentioned that Xi Ting was the target of a certain gang due to his identity. He was shot and Mo Ran had been present at that time. Being a doctor and Xi Ting's best friend, she had operated on him on the spot. But the gang did not want him to live. So for confirming the death of Xi Ting, they shot Mo Ran as well so that the death of Xi Ting would be ensured.
"Jian Jian, I think that something is wrong here," Qin Yan said deep in thought.
"Ahh, even I feel that the pieces do not match up. But I cannot point out what is wrong. Being present in that situation, you might know better. Tell me," Yun Jian took another sip of her coffee.
Qin Yan thought for a while to confirm her assumptions and then said firmly, "If the gang shot me just to make sure that Xi Ting would die, they would have shot me as soon as I started operating and not when the operation was over. What benefit did they get? Nothing!"
"So I am sure that there is something else that we are not able to find. There is definitely something unravelled here," Qin Yan put down her empty cup on the table.
"Yes, I think you are right. To make sure that Xi Ting would die, they should have made someone keep an eye on him. And as soon as you started operating, they would have shot you. They didn't have to wait till the end. Do you think that someone has fulfilled his motives by making the gang a cover?" Yun Jian exclaimed.
"Most probably. Let's keep investigating," Qin Yan added thoughtfully.
Yun Jian nodded and kept the folder back in her bagpack.
"By the way, why are you here in person? You could have sent this information by email. Did anything happen?" Qin Yan asked her best friend.
Hearing Qin Yan, Yun Jian sighed, "Sigh! Nothing could be hidden from you. You are as smart as always. I am here for another case. And I want your input in this as well."
Qin Yan nodded seriously, "Go ahead."
Yun Jian looked at Qin Yan and asked, "Have you seen the news of a young actress committing suicide the last few days?"
"Is she the same who committed suicide because she didn't get any work?" Qin Yan asked back to Yun Jian.
"Yes, that's the one."
Obviously Qin Yan remembered it. Was it not because of that news that she had decided to invest in entertainment industry and acquired Starlight Entertainment!
"What is the deal with that case?" Qin Yan asked.
This time Yun Jian took out a pendrive from her bagpack and connected it to her tablet. "Look, the actress had livestreamed her suicide. This is the video," Qin Yan came over to sat along with Yun Jian on the couch for a convenient view.
After Qin Yan got settled, Yun Jian pressed the play button. The video started.
The actress came in front of the camera and started, "Hi mom, Hi dad. Whatever I am saying, I have thought about it clearly. I am really sorry for this. Dad, do you remember what you told me when I was coming to S city? You told me to work hard and give my best. The more you work hard, the more successful you will be. I really worked hard here. I did what you told me to do. I used to give auditions from morning 10 AM to evening 6 PM. Even after giving so many auditions, I did not get selected in any of them. In this industry, luck and connections are very very important. My luck was not good and I refused to do anything dirty to get the roles as my conscience did not allow me to do so. Then someone said that the people who are not lucky have to compromise. But I had promised you that I will die but never compromise. And today, here I am. I am a loser, dad. I failed. I failed badly. I really wanted to make you and mom very proud of me, but I couldn't do it. I am really sorry," the girl cried badly.
She continued after a while, "Mom, dad, only I am responsible for this suicide. No one else is. I came to S city to be an actress three years ago. Now that I cannot succeed, I chose to give up my life. Take care you guys, and if possible please forgive your beloved daughter for taking this step."
Then she tied her legs with a rope tightly. She then took a plastic wrap and wrapped it all over her mouth. After this, she tied her hands with a tie up at her back. Second after second, her breathing became unstable and she found it unable to breathe. She struggled a lot but died eventually.
The video ended when a pizza delivery boy broke into the house as there was no response from inside.
Yun Jian looked at Qin Yan waiting for her response. Qin Yan thought for a while before replaying the video.
She then sighed, "Jian, this is not a suicide."
Yun Jian had expected this. She also felt that something was wrong in this case. Why would somebody order a pizza before committing suicide? Even if it is their last wish to have their favourite food, shouldn't she eat have eaten it first before committing suicide?
Yun Jian thus put forward her thoughts in front of Qin Yan, "That's what I thought. Why would anybody order a pizza before committing suicide and not eat it? Doesn't it look like she wanted the pizza guy to save her before she died? I think she wanted to stage her suicide for publicity but because the delivery boy got late, she died for real."
Qin Yan shook her head, "I don't think it is the case. In contrast I think it is something more complex."
Qin Yan then replayed the video and pointed towards it, "Look, at this point, the victim's eyeballs have drifted sidewards as if she is looking at the side. This has happened a total of four times at 36 seconds, 1 minute and 7 seconds, 1 minute and 29 seconds and lastly at 1 minute and 53 seconds."
"People normally write the suicide notes. Even if they do not write and want to speak, they would speak their minds before committing suicide. But this girl is not speaking from her mind. Instead it looks like she is reading the suicide note. Nobody first writes the suicide note and then reads it. Even if they did, have the police found the written note anywhere in the house?" Qin Yan analysed her thoughts.
Yun Jian wondered about Qin Yan's question but could not remember finding out any suicide note in the victim's house. She took out her cellphone from her pocket and dialled the number of her junior officer, "Hu, did you guys find any suicide note in the home of the actress? The case we are looking for right now?"
Hearing the answer from the other side of the call, Yun Jian's face darkened.
She looked up at Qin Yan and said, "They haven't found any suicide note."
Qin Yan's face darkened even more. Both Yun Jian and Qin Yan understood what was going on. There seemed to be some kind of conspiracy in the case. The actress was targeted by someone who had forced her into committing suicide somehow. As for who did it, it might be a rival of hers that is another actress or any of her love rivals.
"Till now, we were thinking that it is a suicide. Only I doubted the thing because of the pizza delivery boy. But now that you have pointed out the loopholes in the video, my suspicion is confirmed. The case has to be investigated in a new way now. I need to investigate everyone around the actress and see if she could be targeted by someone," Yun Jian organized her thoughts aloud.
Qin Yan did not pay attention to Yun Jian as she had a different feeling with regards to this case. Her instincts had never be wrong and she could feel that even after investigating, Yun Jian could barely find anything.
