Soon everyone arrived. Xu Dong also reached the Xu house. As she saw Xu Dong, Mother Xu ran towards her beloved son. Even Father Xu was not far behind Mother Xu.0

She realized that Xu Dong hadn't even looked at her after coming home. Her heart ached terribly.

Xu Dong hugged his mother and consoled her, "Mother, please don't cry. I can't see you like this. Look your son is back in one piece. What more do you need?"

Mother Xu nodded while sobbing, "I am sorry! I am really sorry Dong'er. Mom didn't trust you!"

Xu Dong wiped his mother's tears, "Mom. it's not your fault. In fact, it is none of us' fault. We just fell into a trap set up by someone else. You don't need to feel guilty."

Xu Dong released Mother Xu and then hugged Father Xu, "Dad!"

Father Xu patted his back and nodded, "It's good that you are back. Come, let's have dinner."

"Is the food prepared? Auntie Qiu, did you use the recipes that I had sent to you?" Xu Dong questioned the housekeeper auntie.

Hearing Xu Dong, other than Auntie Qiu, all the members of the family were utterly confused.

"Dong'er what are you saying? Did you tell Auntie Qiu to make these dishes?" Mother Xu asked wondering about the situation.

"Yes mom. I have encountered a doctor. When you said that Lei Lei could not stomach anything, I consulted her and she sent me these recipes. She said that now it is important for Lei Lei to eat protein rich foods," Xu Dong told his parents.

He then glanced at his sister and walked towards her. He bent down in front of his sister when he saw her face covered in tears.

"Brother!" Xu Lei tried to jump into Xu Dong's arms but ended up falling as she could not feel her legs. Fortunately, Xu Dong was quick enough to catch his sister and prevent her from falling.

"Lei Lei!" the three of them shouted anxiously.

The Xu parents and Xu Dong all had their hearts in their mouth when they saw Xu Lei falling. They only relaxed when they saw Xu Lei safe and sound.

"Lei Lei, what do you think you are doing? How can you not care about your own safety!" Xu Dong scolded his sister after seeing her naive reaction.

"Brother, I am sorry!" Xu Lei apologized to her brother while sobbing continuously. It seemed that her tears could not stop anytime sooner. It was also unknown whether she was apologizing for blaming Xu Dong for her accident or for behaving carelessly just now.

Xu Dong took it as his sister was apologizing for everything and wiped her tears with his hands, "Lei Lei, you don't need to apologise. Not for anything. As I said, none of us were at fault. It was just a trap that we fell into. Now forget about the past things. Look, your brother is absolutely fine!"

Xu Lei nodded her head but she still could not bear to forgive herself.

Xu Dong knew this and said, "Lei Lei, I know it's not easy to forget everything, but let's try to put our past behind okay? We will take our time and you take your time too. But now, let's eat first."

He then said to his parents, "Also, I need to discuss something with you guys!"

The Xu parents looked at each other and nodded. Both of them sat on the dining table at their respective seats.

Xu Dong pushed Xu Lei's wheelchair towards the dining table and let her adjust her seat. He then sat beside her. Auntie Qiu served the dishes one by one.

Xu Lei looked at the bowl of noodles and she didn't feel nauseous. She picked up the chopsticks.

Everyone started eating.

"The taste is okay." Father Xu said flatly, giving Auntie Qiu a mild compliment. Internally though, Father Xu was very confident in Auntie Qiu's cooking and he was proven right. The beef was tender, the carrots and cucumbers were crisp and refreshing, and overall the taste was light. The toppings were not greasy at all, it was a perfect meal.

Mother Xu looked at her husband with a smile, "This is just okay? You're getting harder and harder to please."

"The recipe young master sent me was too good. This is why the dishes came out so well," Auntie Qiu gave all the credit to Xu Dong's recipe.

"Indeed…" Xu Lei said softly and picked up her chopsticks. The noodles didn't make her stomach turn. It even raised her appetite.

Mother Xu was visibly happy after Xu Lei took a few bites and didn't vomit.

"Lei Lei, you should have some soup to warm your stomach."

Xu Lei nodded, and when she picked up the bowl of soup, her appetite raised even further.

Xu Dong was happy seeing his sister's appetite increase. He thanked Qin Yan countless times in his heart.

He then said, "You need to have enough protein in your body to face the impending surgery. Eat properly." Everyone latched onto the last sentence she said.

"Dong'er, what did you just say? Surgery?" Mother Xu's voice was shaking. "Who told you there was surgery for your sister's leg?"

Xu Lei looked at her brother with a look of anticipation in her eyes.

"Actually, this was what I wanted to discuss with you," Xu Dong sighed.

All the other three people looked at Xu Dong with anticipation and surprise.

"You have seen the press conference of Starlight Entertainment, right?" Xu Dong asked his family.

The three of them nodded.

"The lady who acquired Starlight Entertainment wants me to continue being the CEO," Xu Dong dropped a bomb on his family.

"WHAT!!" All of them exclaimed together. They had never thought in their dreams that Xu Dong could continue his position in the company.

"Yes, she wants me to manage the company. She also offered me the shares of the company," Xu Dong told his family.

He added, "But I refused."

Father Xu, Mother Xu and Xu Lei were stunned. Xu Dong refused such a good condition. But Why! Their faces were full of question marks at Xu Dong's decision.

Before they could ask why he refused such a great offer, the person in question sighed, "I know you all might be wondering why did I refuse such a great offer. I won't hide anything from you guys. This incident happened because of me. I am not saying that it is my fault but the reason was to take me and Xu Lei down together. I thought a lot in prison and decided that I would retire from the entertainment industry and do a normal regular nine to five job. I want my family to be safe and sound."

"Now I want to ask what Lei Lei thinks about my decision? If your legs can get cured, would you want to continue with your career in entertainment industry?" Xu Dong put forward his question towards Xu Lei.

His question put Xu Lei deep into thought. She had never imagined that what if her legs could get cured! As she knew that she was a cripple, she had lost all the hope with her life, much less her career.

Now Xu Dong's question had ignited the hope in her heart. She thought for a while and the daze in her eyes clear making them look determined.

Mother Xu and Father Xu sat there silently waiting for their daughter's reply.

Finally, Xu Lei looked up at Xu Dong and replied, "Brother, if my legs can get cured, I definitely want to continue my career in entertainment industry."

Xu Dong and his parents were surprised by Xu Lei's answer. They had not expected this from Xu Lei. After all, a person who had suffered such a huge blow would be devastated from inside and would subconsciously run away from the things that caused them to be in such state. But Xu Lei proved to be different. Even in this state, she did not lose her mind completely, but could think realistically.
