Did you find the culprit?
Elder Su asked Su Chong to extend his hand so that he could examine the latter's pulse. After a minute, Elder Su nodded and said, "Qin Yan, you have done everything perfectly. There are no adverse reactions to Su Chong because of the treatment and his body has become healthier than before. Good job!" Elder Su did not hold back while praising Qin Yan.2
The Su couple were overjoyed hearing Elder Su's words. This was the best news they had ever received in their lives. After all, what parents wanted the most was the wellbeing of their child. Hearing that their child was safe and sound was the best thing for them.
Both of them thanked Elder Su before asking some questions about Su Chong's further life actions. They wanted to know if he could cope up with his peers and so.
Elder Su explained everything with a smile. Today, he also was in an extremely good mood as he had finally got a talented disciple after Mo Ran to whom he can pass his knowledge to.
The Su couple left with their child after clearing all the doubts in their minds.
Elder Tang, Elder Su and Qin Yan went to Elder Tang's office for further talks.
When they settled down, Elder Su looked at Qin Yan's fractured hand and felt angry. Elder Tang had already told him about what happened to Qin Yan that day. He was in S province that time and thus could not make it to the hospital as soon as he received the news. Now that he looked at the little lady sitting in front of him with a cast in her hand, he didn't know why but he felt inexplicably angry.
"How are you now? Is your hand okay?" He asked Qin Yan with concern.
Qin Yan glanced at her hand and then at Elder Su, "Yes, It is okay now. It pains sometimes but I can bear that pain."
Elder Tang felt something off by Qin Yan's words. She was prescribed with painkillers, then why did she need to bear the pain?
He put forward the doubts in his mind, "Qin Yan, you were prescribed with painkillers. Then why do you have to bear the pain?"
Qin Yan sighed, "Elder Tang, being a doctor you know how harmful the painkillers are. I also know the same. The time pain turns unbearable, I naturally take them. But till the pain is bearable, I avoid the painkillers."
Elder Tang nodded at Qin Yan's words. But still tried to convince her, "I know they are harmful if taken for a long term. But in the cases of surgeries and fractures, it is common to take painkillers. In fact, nowadays, people tend to take them even in minute pains. Then if compared to that, pain that accompanies a bone fracture is too much."
Qin Yan nodded and agreed with Elder Tang, "I know that now this is very common, but taking painkillers at smallest pains reduces the pain threshold of one's body. Then what would one do if they face such situations when painkillers are not available immediately. Their pain threshold is so low that they would find it unbearable to bear even a smallest pain. This is harmful to body even if we look at it from any angle," Qin Yan concluded her point.
Elder Tang was quite impressed by Qin Yan's depth of knowledge. He wanted to continue this discussion with her when Elder Su interrupted them, "Qin Yan, did you find out who did this to you? Being injured just before the college entrance exam is not likely to be a coincidence. And from what Elder Tang told me, it was definitely not an accident," Elder Su switched back to the main topic after seeing that Elder Tang and Qin Yan were drifting off the topic.
Qin Yan turned towards Elder Su and replied, "We have already found the culprit and she is facing the charges. Also, she couldn't achieve what she wanted, so other than a fractured hand, I didn't lose anything."
Elder Su breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Qin Yan. He was really worried for her when he heard about the accident.
"How was your college entrance exam?" Elder Su inquired.
Qin Yan did not feel impatient at Elder Su's constant questioning as she knew that he is concerned about her. In her two lifetimes, she had met a very few people who were genuinely concerned about her, Elder Su being one of them. Also, her teacher caring about her matters gave her a different sense of happiness.
"It was good," she replied humbly.
"Did you decide which field you want to pursue?" Elder Su put forward another question. Actually this question was very important to him. He was afraid that given her looks, Qin Yan would think of entering the entertainment industry. This was a common trend in good looking youngsters.
He did not want Qin Yan to enter the industry, not because he despised or looked down upon the artists but because he didn't want her talent in medicine to be wasted.
Sure enough, Qin Yan didn't disappoint him, "I have decided to go in medicine. I want to be a full-fledged doctor."
Elder Su nodded in satisfaction. He didn't ask if she could get into her preferred university because he had enough trust in her that she could get whatever she wanted to achieve. But these questions were put forward in front of her because Elder Su wanted to ensure that his decision of taking her as a disciple is not wrong.
Finally, he came on the main topic of that day, "Qin Yan, as the reports suggest, you have done an excellent job in treating Su Chong. So, you have completed your task and shown me that you are capable enough to be my disciple," Elder Su directly came to the point.
Qin Yan nodded indicating Elder Su to continue.
Elder Su continued, "So now that you have passed the test, we can arrange the apprenticeship ceremony as you say. It can either be grand inviting almost all the upper class people of the country or it could be simple where only we three, you, me and Tang Yin would be present. It is upto you."
Qin Yan glanced at Elder Su and smiled. She knew that her master liked to be low-key but him still offering a grand ceremony came as a surprise to her. This showed that Elder Su valued her a lot.
However, Qin Yan was the same as Elder Su. She did not want to invite trouble to herself by exposing her identity as Elder Su's disciple.
In fact, even in her previous life, the news that she was Elder Su's disciple came to be known to people after she got famous in the circle. Till that time, she had power to reject the patients she did not wish to treat. But now, she was powerless. Even Elder Su could only protect her to some extent. But once her identity got exposed, it would be fatal to her as well as Elder Su. People who could not reach Elder Su would try to coax her and harass her. The matter would bring her endless trouble.
So, Qin Yan smiled at the two old men in front of her and replied, "Elder Su, I don't want a grand apprenticeship ceremony. It would be fine even if we three are present. Moreover, if possible, I would like to request you to prevent this news from spreading. I don't want to get into mindless troubles. My main aim is just to learn medicine from you and to help the mankind as far as I can. I don't desire popularity or any such thing."
Qin Yan's words brought a wave of admiration in the two elders' eyes. The were quite impressed by how grounded the little lady was. Normally, people of her age had the desire for attention and fame. Moreover, if she was to develop her career in medicine, the fact that she was Elder Su's disciple would help her immensely.
However, she still refused the grand ceremony. Doing this was considered difficult. Sacrificing fame was not that easy. Every person now wants to be a centre of attraction and wants people to know about his/her achievements. This not only earns them fame but also gives them the importance that they desire. Very few people can resist the temptation and remain grounded and low-key.
"Okay, then. Let's go to my teahouse. You can offer me tea and our ceremony will be completed there itself. If you wish to call any family member of yours, you are free to do so," Elder Su got up from the chair with Elder Tang.
Qin Yan got up thinking if she should call Xi Ting. Nobody other than him came to her mind when Elder Su mentioned a family member. But thinking about how she was going to reveal everything tonight, she dropped the idea of calling him.
