What an unfilial child
Mother Xi didn't look too happy.2
Old Madam was happy seeing her son and daughter-in-law come. But when she saw Nie Mianmian following the two, her face fell. She knew about Nie Mianmian's feelings for Xi Ting. Now that Qin Yan was here, things were bound to be awkward.
Old Lady Xi called out to Father Xi, "Tianhao, you guys are here..Come, look what my granddaughter-in-law has brought for me."
Father Xi smiled and got seated with Old Master and Old Madam. Xi Ting took out the gift that Qin Yan had brought for Father Xi. Qin Yan passed on the gift to Father Xi, "Uncle Xi, this is for you."
Father Xi looked at Qin Yan and nodded. He did not say anything and just accepted the gift.
On the other side, Mother Xi's face still didn't look happy. She thought that Qin Yan might have used Xi Ting's money for buying the gifts since she was still a student and had no source of earning.
Seeing the exclusive gifts on the table, she frowned. She didn't expect Qin Yan to be such a person.
"Mianmian, do you know anything about Qin Yan's family?" Mother Xi asked.
Nei Mianmian nodded but hesitated, "Aunt Xi, it's like.."
"What happened? Is anything wrong with her family?" Mother Xi was worried seeing Nei Mianmian hesitating.
Nei Mianmian pretended to hesitate, "Actually.. Actually I don't know much but I have heard that Qin Yan has disowned her family. Her parents have ousted her from their house and her relations with her family are not good."
Mother Xi's face fell hearing this. What kind of unfilial child was Qin Yan! What had she done for her parents to throw her out of their house! This girl could not become the daughter-in-law of Xi family, Mother Xi decided in her mind.
Nei Mianmian was smart enough to know what would agitate Mother Xi. She also knew what mattered to Mother Xi and what didn't. As she guessed, Mother Xi was furious at Qin Yan. Having achieved her goal, Nei Mianmian knew she didn't have to say anything more.
"Mianmian, don't worry," Mother Xi took a deep breath and grabbed Nei Mianmian's hand as she consoled her, "I want you as my daughter-in-law, and nobody else. Only you are good enough for my Ah Ting."
"But…" Nei Mianmian looked hurt, "Ah Ting is already committed."
"So what," Mother Xi said coldly, "You can always break up after getting committed. If she thinks that she can get Ah Ting in her control and this is the solution to all her future problems, she's wrong. The Xi family doesn't welcome just anybody!"
She was referring to Qin Yan.
Nei Mianmian's eyes flickered, but she didn't say more. She felt good when she saw how unhappy Madam Xi looked. As long as Madam Xi didn't like Qin Yan, she wouldn't have a good time in the Xi family.
On the other side, Seeing how much Old Madam liked Qin Yan, Xi Ting smiled and said, "Since Grandma likes Yan Yan so much, shouldn't there be a welcome gift?"
"You brat."
Old Madam glared at Xi Ting but with love and affection, "Don't you think your Grandma would know this? Don't worry, I won't deprive your wife of anything. Grandma has got it all prepared."
Old Madam had gotten someone to bring the gift here the moment she returned after meeting Qin Yan the previous time.
She'd prepared this gift a long time ago. It had been years, but there hadn't been a suitable recipient.
Her precious grandson had never been interested in women and had remained single for way too long.
She was worried that the gifts would never be given out. But now, things were different. Old Madam could finally be at ease now that she'd met Qin Yan. She was satisfied with this granddaughter-in-law.
Her grandson had rather good judgment indeed. He picked a really beautiful and kind granddaughter-in-law for her. She had a pretty little face that lifted spirits when others saw her. Well, only a girl with such looks could match up to her precious grandson.
Besides Old Master, the others in the Xi family had no idea that Old Madam Xi actually placed much importance on appearances. It wasn't difficult to please her. One just needed to look good. The more good-looking one was, the more she liked them.
Qin Yan didn't just look good, she was just the type that Old Madam liked. She was kind and intelligent as well.
"Go, bring me the gift I prepared for Yan Yan," Having approved of her, even the way she addressed her had changed. She sounded so much more intimate calling her Yan Yan.
Nei Mianmian's jealousy surged when she saw Old Master and Old Madam treating Qin Yan as their granddaughter-in-law. She then saw Old Madam handing Qin Yan a box. She didn't have to see what it was inside to know that it must be an expensive gift.
A flicker of hatred flashed in her eyes as she quietly said, "Aunt Xi, no matter how angry you are now, you can't show it. Otherwise, Old Madam would get angry at you."
Mother Xi obviously knew that too. She'd been holding back all this while precisely because Old Madam Xi was present. Otherwise, she would've chased that unfilial woman out by now.

Qin Yan looked at the box from Old Madam and turned towards Xi Ting hesitantly.
Xi Ting nodded at her, "This is Grandma's welcome gift to you, just take it. When my mom came into the family back then, she received a gift too."
Qin Yan only reached out to receive it when she heard him say that. She politely said, "Thank you, Old Madam."
She had no idea what was in the box. And it wasn't nice to open it right there. But it must be pretty good stuff.
After all, she'd been longing for a granddaughter-in-law, and she finally had one. Old Madam was in great spirits now, and she was liking Qin Yan more with every passing minute. She grabbed her hand and talked to her for a long while. She had forgotten to welcome her daughter-in-law in the house.
Qin Yan had thought that someone would ask about her family and background. But even till the end of their conversation, Old Madam and Old Master didn't mention a word of it.
They simply asked her about her age, her school, and her as an individual.
"Ah Ting has always been a good child who never needed us to worry. He's an opinionated person, and he's been making most of his decisions on his own since he was 10. Previously, his mom had introduced several girls of suitable backgrounds to him, but Ah Ting never took interest in any of them."
"We couldn't possibly force him to like them. But he was also spending too much time in his work and we were starting to worry that this would be it. But look at him now. He's committed. I can finally lift the weight off my shoulders."
Old Madam was holding Qin Yan's hand as she exclaimed, "Now, both of you should get married soon and live blissfully."
Qin Yan nodded at the old lady and looked at Xi Ting. Xi Ting looked back at her lovingly.
Meanwhile, Nei Mianmian, watching it all from the couch opposite them, fumed with anger and bitterness. Xi Ting's gentleness was like a stab to her heart. She couldn't even dream of having him treat herself this way. She could tell that Xi Ting truly loved Qin Yan.
Nei Mianmian couldn't accept that he'd really fallen for another woman. She'd never even entertained the thought that Xi Ting would fall for another woman someday.
"Good, good!" Old Madam was very happy to see how her precious grandson was looking lovingly at her beautiful granddaughter-in-law.
"Yan Yan, come with me, let me introduce them to you," Xi Ting had his arm around Qin Yan as they turned around and walked towards Mother Xi, "This is my mom, and this is Nei Mianmian whom you've already met."
Qin Yan looked up at Mother Xi. She was a little stunned when she saw Mother Xi. Was her intuition wrong, or did she sense disgust in Mother Xi's eyes? But the very next moment, it vanished.
"You're Yan Yan, right? You seem like a likable child."
"Aunt…" Qin Yan handed over the mahjong set that she had brought for Mother Xi, "This is for you."
"Oh, you didn't have to bring so many gifts. Actually I came here in hurry so I forgot to bring the gift that I had prepared for you. Although I have no idea what Mom gave you, she definitely did a better job than I did at this."
With that, she removed a bangle on her wrist and handed it to Qin Yan, "I really love this bangle, but I'm giving it to you now. I hope you don't despise it in any way."
