Old Madam gets furious
Madam Xi had always perceived Qin Yan as a manipulative woman. She felt that Qin Yan must have tricked her son into being with her in such a short time.2
She was really upset by the matter. If it wasn't for Old Madam, she wasn't going to readily accept Qin Yan as her daughter-in-law.
She would never let them be married. She was never going to let such a manipulative woman enter the Xi family.
Hence, since she was prejudiced against Qin Yan, she naturally thought that Qin Yan was vicious and her actions had hidden agendas.
They were just acts that showed how manipulative she was. It was like the saying "If you didn't like someone, you would find fault in everything she does."
She hated Qin Yan even more after she saw Old Madam and her sons supporting her. She had already created so much trouble in the family in such a short period of time. Who knew what other tricks she had up her sleeve?
"Alright," Madam Xi stood up in anger. She suddenly felt that she was isolated as even her sons would not support her.
She then continued furiously, "It's all my fault. I've misunderstood her. I've hurt her feelings. She's completely innocent. She has done nothing wrong. I'm the evil mother-in-law. I was wrong just now. I'm an outsider, you guys are the real family."
After she screamed the final sentence, Madam Xi left the dining hall.
"Such horrible behavior! Such horrible behavior. How could she, as a senior, behave in such a manner! This must be because of your father. He treated her too well. She's spoilt!" Old Madam's anger rose as she saw Madam Xi storm out of the dining hall.
She was so angry that she was having trouble breathing.
"Old Madam, calm down. You must take care of your body," The butler was shocked when he saw that Old Madam was having trouble breathing. He immediately fished out her medication and got the servant to fetch a cup of warm water.
Old Madam was old. Even though she had taken good care of her body, she still had minor ailments. She took medication daily.
The butler was worried that her anger would cause an increase in her blood pressure. He immediately handed the medication with the water to her and said, "Old Madam, please take the medication."
Furious, the old lady slammed the table continuously and said, "I'm not taking it. If something happens to me, get Xi Cheng here. Let him see how badly his wife is carrying herself."
The butler knew that Old Madam was having a fit and they would have to coax her to calm down.
He thought for a moment and handed the medication to Qin Yan. He then continued smilingly, "Miss Qin, you should be the one to coax Old Madam to take her medication. You're her favorite. She will listen to you."
Qin Yan was also worried that something might happen to Old Madam because of the anger.
Furthermore, Madam Xi was furious because Old Madam was defending her. If anything were to happen to her, Qin Yan herself would feel very guilty over this matter.
"Grandma, would you take the medication, please? We're all worried about you," Qin Yan said as she took over the glass of water and the medication. She then gently continued, "Mom must… have some misunderstanding about me. It's my fault, I should have clarified everything with you guys first, then nothing would have happened."
"If something happens to you because of this, I'll be heartbroken. I'll feel bad about it."
Old Madam's anger dissipated when she heard Qin Yan's voice. She looked at her granddaughter-in-law and liked Qin Yan even more.
Her granddaughter-in-law was asking her in such a nice manner. There was no way she wouldn't cooperate. The old madam immediately took the water and medication and swallowed it.
The butler breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that. He was impressed by Qin Yan.
Old Madam had a good personality, but everyone in the Xi family home knew that she was a stubborn person when she became angry. Even the old master feared the old madam.
It wasn't an easy feat to coax the old madam when she was in that state. But Miss Qin could do it in such a short time.
It wasn't something easy to do. It also showed that Old Madam really liked Qin Yan as her granddaughter-in-law.
Madam must have known about it as well. But why did Madam… do everything she did. It ruined the evening for everyone.
Miss Qin was already a part of the Xi family in everyone's hearts, and she had also gotten the approval of Old Madam. Young Master loved her as well. If Madam was more rational, she should have tried to accept her as part of the family and loved her like a family member.
Having a harmonious family was of utmost importance. There was no point in rejecting someone that everyone had already accepted.
Madam Xi couldn't force them to go through a break up. Young Master was also a strong-headed man. He wasn't a mommy's boy.
There was no way that Young Master would break up with Miss Qin because of the opinions of others. Unless he really didn't love Miss Qin anymore.
"Miss Qin, you're awesome," The butler could read the situation. He knew that everyone loved Qin Yan and became more respectful of her. He continued, "Old Madam was willing to listen to you. There's no way she would have listened to us."
"That's because Grandma dotes on me," Qin Yan said gently as she snuggled up to Old Madam's arm.
Qin Yan could tell that Old Madam treated her really well. Hence, she reciprocated it by being close to her.
"Our Yan Yan is so obedient. How can Grandma not dote on you?" Old Madam took her medicine and felt better after being coaxed by Qin Yan. Gently patting her hands, she said, "Don't take what your mother-in-law said just now too badly. You will always be my granddaughter in my heart. I'm not sure where she heard those rumors from and why she said that rubbish. Once she has cooled down, she will admit her mistake."
"Don't worry, Grandma." Qin Yan nodded. She smiled and said, "I know, I won't take it seriously."
"Good." Old Madam was satisfied. "The family must live harmoniously and not have any misunderstandings."
"Grandma…"
Seeing Old Madam's kind demeanor, Qin Yan started tearing up. She never had anyone who would speak to her in this tone in both her lives. It was the first time she felt genuine care from an elder.
"Why are you crying, silly girl. Are you upset?" Old Madam couldn't bear to see Qin Yan cry and quickly coaxed her, "Good girl, stop crying. Grandma understands the hardship you're going through. You can rest assured, Grandma will fight back for you."
Old Madam's words were even more tear-jerking for her. Qin Yan started crying. She didn't know why Old Madam liked her so much and treated her so well.
Seeing Qin Yan's red eyes, Xi Ting frowned. He thought that she cried because she was aggrieved.
He immediately reached out to wipe her tears. He coaxingly said, "Are you having a hard time? I'll fight back for you later, is that okay? It hurts me to see you cry."
"I… I'm not crying because I'm having a hard time."
Qin Yan sobbed. Tears fell once Xi Ting wiped it away with his sleeves. Not long after, his grey shirt's sleeves were all stained with her tears.
Looking at the wet stain, he said, "Then, why are you crying? Grandma and I can help you if you tell us why."
The butler was stunned while looking at this scene from the side. Although he knew that Young Master doted on Miss Qin, he was still shocked witnessing this scene.
Young Master was very particular about cleanliness and had germophobia. But he didn't seem to mind Miss Qin dirtying his sleeves. Just as if he didn't have germophobia.
He didn't expect that Miss Qin would be this important to the Young Master. He also noticed the way Young Master looked at her. Gently and affectionately.
It must be true love.
With Miss Qin's beautiful looks, not many men would reject her.
But this was Young Master Xi. Given the Xi family's background, Young Master had seen all types of beautiful women since young.
Young Lady Nie from the Nie family was also very pretty. She even grew up with Young Master as childhood friends. But Young Master did not fall for her.
"Yes, silly girl. Why are you crying? Let Grandma know and I will help you," Old Madam's heart ached to see Qin Yan cry until her eyes were swollen.
"I'm not aggrieved," Qin Yan lifted her head to look at the man wiping her tears and Old Madam with a worried expression.
