The Lu family

"Lu Ren, did you have to do that to your mother? Although she's a bad woman and I hate her, you should have considered the love your father had for her! She gave birth to you!" An old woman screamed and hit her walking stick on the floor to convey her anger, still Maverick didn't blink his bloodshot raging eyes away from the three oldest men in the room.0

"We didn't raise you to become a monster! A child of the Lu family learns to respect their elders even though they were wronged by the same elders! You have abided by that rule for years, why did you suddenly change your mind and attack your mother?!!" The old woman coughed a few times. It was obvious that she was very angry. 

Just now, the meeting was going well until some members of the family brought Jeslyn into the matter. Not only did they disrespect his wife, he found out from their words that Madam Caroline had sent one of her people to the media, to tell the world that Jeslyn is a member of the Half-heart organization. 

Enraged, Maverick immediately called a few people to take care of the media houses and also called Rex to deal with their mother, which is why the Lu grandmother is angry, but as it stands right now, even if she dies, Maverick wouldn't give a f*ck!

"It's all because of that wench! Ever since she came into his life, Cousin brother had become mean to his mother. No matter how tough a man is, the other gender can bend him. A perfect example is Damien Yu." Zack's father said nonchalantly like he didn't mean anything malicious. 

"Cousin brother is right, that girl is a bad influence on Lu Ren. She should be driven away!" Another member of the Lu family joined in. 

"Indeed, the other time, she extorted so much money from my wife, her oldest sister-in-law! That worthless woman is so shameless that–"

"On whose order do you talk bad about my wife in my presence?!" Maverick thundered. He started taking small steps towards the man who just spoke. The other time, Jeslyn had to take on this man's wife for the sake of their son.

Maverick had never shown anger before, however, at this moment, he wanted nothing but to kill every single one of them in the room. 

Before today, Maverick wouldn't think of wiping out the Lu family. Real reason is unknown but most people say that his love for his late father wouldn't allow him to kill anyone from the family, but not when his wife's life has been put in jeopardy!

"Lu Ren, sit down!" One of the living ancestors roared. 

Maverick shifted his crazed gaze to the old man and smiled sinisterly. "Maybe I would have listened some minutes ago, but now, whoever has a bad intention towards my wife will die!" he said to the old man. 

"Are you threatening us?!" Another living ancestor asked with a frown. 

"I don't make threats, I make promises, the Lu family will cease to exist if you touch a hair on her head." His face changed and he lurched straight at Zack's father and gripped him by the throat. This man connived with Madam Caroline to kill his wife and for that, he must die! 

Everyone bolted to their feet, shocked at Maverick's reaction.

"Lu Ren!!" The old woman screamed. Yet Maverick paid no heed. 

Zack's father was suffocating and widening his eyes and gasping for air, still Maverick wasn't concerned. 

"Lu Re– argh!!" The old woman grabbed her chest as agonizing pain struck her heart.

"Mother!"

"Grandmother!" 

Panicking voices rang in the hall and almost everyone gathered around the old woman who had fainted.

"Hurry, take grandma away!" Someone screamed. 

One man carried the grandma on his back and another supported the woman as they hurried out of the meeting room.

Even so, Maverick didn't let the man go until he saw that the man had stopped breathing, he then let go. 

"Lu Ren! You've got some guts!!" Another man yelled. He was the only one remaining in the hall with the three living ancestors, plus Zack's father who was unconscious on the floor.

Maverick ignored him, pulled out a black handkerchief and started wiping his hands while walking back to his seat.

Although he was still angry, his aura had gone a tad lower and he seemed to not be as angry as earlier. 

One of the Living ancestors looked at him speechlessly for a long time before he said to Maverick's cousin brother who was still glaring at Maverick. 

"Take your brother away for treatment."

The man obeyed and at left with Zack's father. 

With only Maverick and the three old men left in the room, it became peaceful. 

Staring at each other, Maverick had no intention to break the silence. Everyone in the Lu family disgusts him, including these old men. 

One of the old men cleared his throat, drawing the others' attention.

"Lu Ren, that girl is from the enemy's side. You two are polar opposites. Accept the wife we found for you and take your rightful place in the organization and become the head of the Lu family. If not for your father dying so soon, no one would have bothered to make you do this. 

"The other day, you got your hands on the rainborite ore but others dared to covet it. Lu Ren, this has never happened before. Everyone knows that you've become soft, which is why they dared to offend you. Now the rainborite ore is gone. If others know that you are regressing, what do you think would happen? Everyone would start testing their luck and in no time they'll pull you off your throne. Nobody wants that, Lu Ren." The old man explained calmly, hoping Maverick would understand. 

Maverick chuckled at those words. "Do I live for you?" 

It was funny how they talked about the Rainborite Ore like he would have given them a share from it. 

"Huh?" The old man asked in confusion.

"I shouldered the responsibility of catering for myself and my brother for 20 years. What were you doing? Where were you when your so-called family wanted my brother and me dead?! You all owe me, instead of hiding away from my sight, you dare to provoke me?!" He curled his lips into a mocking smile.
