They're blaming Jiang Yue

Jiang Yue and Jiang Xiu greeted those sitting at the dining table, but Jiang Yue once again did not acknowledge Feng Rong.1

However, this time, Feng Rong didn't make a fuss about it and focused her attention on her daughter.

The dinner was served while they sat on the remaining empty chairs.

"How are you two doing in school?" Xia Zhong was the first person to ask when they were done eating.

Jiang Xiu replied respectfully, "Sister and I are doing well in school, Uncle."

"That's good," He was just about to say something when his father had already raised the topic he was thinking of bringing up in a subtle way, "Something happened to Jiang Xiu?" The old man asked sternly.

"Ah," Jiang Xiu didn't know how to explain it, "Just some minor incident."

"I heard you fractured your skull, what happened?" Xia Mingyu questioned this time and Jiang Xiu nodded.

If they want to know what happened, it will be difficult to explain.

If she said it was because of Cheng Jiayi, they might associate it with what occurred to the Cheng family and Golden Imperial.

Jiang Xiu had told her that it was ideal if none of the Xia Family members knew about their father's transfer to New Hope Hospital because it may make them wonder how they have the connections to make the transfer happen, as the said Hospital is the best one in the Capital.

"I slipped and hit my head in the sink," Jiang Xiu tried hard not to stutter out of fear of being discovered lying.

But when she thought about it, she actually didn't lie, she did slip which caused her to fall and hit her head.

"How come you didn't call us about this?"

"It makes no difference whether we tell you about it or not," Jiang Yue responded in a deadpan voice, her words stumped Xia Mingyu and Xia Zhong.

Jiang Yue knew even if they called them about it, they would probably just tell Jiang Xiu to take care of herself and recuperate well.

The Xia Family might ask some questions here and there regarding their well-being but Jiang Xiu and Jiang Yue never felt warmth from them like how they would to a family.

They had never even asked about their father's recovery all this while and never took the initiative to help them with Jiang Guo's hospitalization before.

Principal Wei who wasn't even related to them by blood was the one who settled their father's hospitalization when they were young with the help of Mayor Kang.

"Xiao Yue..."

"We could have at the very least helped you."

"Is it really just a minor incident?" The old man asked abruptly, causing Jiang Xiu to turn towards him and lower her head in response to his threatening glare.

His next words, though, made her look up again, "I'll give you the chance to tell me the truth right now."

The Patriarch's eyes narrowed as his gaze shifted between Jiang Xiu and Jiang Yue, as though warning them to tell the truth or else they would face the consequences.

Silence filled the room as the atmosphere became tight and heavy.

"No one will explain what happened?"

Jiang Xiu couldn't help but answer anxiously, "I really did slip and hit my head—"

Jiang Yue noticing her sister's uneasiness took it upon herself to explain, "Xiao Xiu was pushed by her classmate—" She hadn't even finished her sentence when their grandfather angrily exclaimed, "Nonsense!"

"Do not play me for a fool," said the Old Master, threateningly, as if he wasn't speaking to his granddaughters.

"Father," Xia Zhong scowled.

He intended to approach this subject tactfully, but it appeared that the old man was growing agitated.

"Ah?"

Jiang Xiu was taken aback by his words, not expecting him to say so, "But Sister is telling the truth," she uttered in a small voice.

Jiang Yue saw the elderly man's angered gaze and realized what was going through his mind, she straightened her back and her uncaring attitude vanished in an instant.

"Why don't you tell us what is the truth for you, Grandfather?" she asked in a cold voice, "It appears that you won't even believe a word we say even if we tell the truth."

It's pointless to explain to someone who refuses to listen.

"What else is it? That girl only got injured when she decided to leave with you!" Anger rushed in the old man's heart like a tide, as his eyes glowered at her.

Jiang Yue grinned as he heard the words the old guy meant to speak in the first place.

She knew it.

No wonder they were impatient to talk to the two of them, so they thought it was her fault.

She had blamed herself for it as well but in the end, she realized if she allowed herself to be consumed by self-blame, she would be unable to avenge Jiang Xiu.

She can't control everything that happens but she can control how she would deal with it.

This time, Jiang Xiu was utterly bewildered.

Are they blaming her sister for what happened to her?

When this thought dawned on her, her heart felt like it was on her throat, she immediately stated, "No! Why are you blaming her? It isn't her fault!"

Feng Rong who had been quiet all this time, scoffed, "Jiang Xiu, don't play dumb on us. We know it has to do with your sister. Who doesn't know how she lived her life all these years? She must have dragged you into her mess."

Xia Zhong frowned but he still said, "You can just be honest with us."

"What? But we were telling you the truth! I was pushed by my classmate!"

"Then why don't you tell us who it is, Cousin?" Xia Mingzhou asked which made Jiang Xiu pursed her lips.

Seeing her reaction, Xia Mingzhou smirked.

It must have been caused by Jiang Yue.

Jiang Yue held Jiang Xiu's trembling hand, "There's no need to explain to them, they'll just believe whatever bullshit their mind has come up with."

The Old Master's face darkened, "Starting from now, the two of you will live in the villa, and Jiang Xiu will go back to Class One," he turned towards Jiang Yue, "And you, stopped playing games anymore and focus on studying! Don't expect me to pull some strings to get you into a good university!"

Jiang Xiu's heart was heavy, but she mustered the courage to face the old man and declare firmly, "No, I'll stay with Sister in the dormitory and in whatever class I want. It's much better to live in a dormitory than with you people who won't even listen to our words."
