"Chief, they had already left," One of the men reported to White Serpent who had his head lowered and appears to be deep in thought.1

Realizing that he might not have heard him, the man repeated his words.

Not long after, White Serpent looked up and merely nodded.

His gaze couldn't help but linger on the furniture in front of him and seeing specks of blood everywhere, "Get someone to throw all the furniture out," he stated with furrowed brows as he stood up.

"All of them?" The man repeated to which he merely replied with a glance, "Get someone to clean the basement as well. I don't want it to smell like blood the next time I came here."

"Understood."

"Has Team 14 already arrived?" He asked as he walked up the stairs, heading outside the villa.

"They haven't yet, but they'll arrive in the next ten minutes."

White Serpent nodded, and waited on the beautifully designed garden on the side of the villa, looking at the sky as though he was there to think about life.

Not long after, three black cars entered the villa.

Four people got down from the first car and they were the remaining men of Team 9 that were protecting Tang Shuren. They were the three men who were assigned to check the surveillance room and the two of them were knocked out by Xu Wuying and Jiang Yue. Along with them was Shi San Jing, the leader of Team 14.

"Chief," Shi San Jing respectfully greeted the man who hadn't turned towards them and was instead still looking at the night sky.

After a moment, White Serpent finally turned to face the several men standing in front of him, and asked Shi San Jing, "What do you have to say for yourself?"

"Our team failed in protecting Tang Shuren and I failed as a team captain."

White Serpent nodded, "From now on, Beta Team 9 will be removed from service. You and your remaining team member can be part of the backup team."

"Chief," Shi San Jing wanted to say something but in the end, he could only lower his head and accept the consequences of their failure.

He had worked his spot as a leader in the Beta Team and he never would have expected that one day he'll be removed and moved to be a member of the backup team.

What was worse was that not only did his team fail to protect their target but six of his men died also

White Serpent, seeing his expression couldn't help but scoff, "Do you have something to say? You're lucky you're still a part of the backup team, if it was your Boss he would have removed you from Inferno."

Shi San Jing hearing his words, couldn't help but be anxious, "Has Boss already heard about what happened?"

White Serpent's brows furrowed, "I haven't told him yet, but it's not something you should worry about."

It should be him who has to worry as Felix had ordered him to protect Tang Shuren and he decided to give it to the Beta Team 9 as their first mission.

It was his mistake for letting a newly created team safeguard the person Felix ordered to be protected.

Shi San Jing nodded and lowered his head due to the humiliation he felt, however, he looked up again once he remembered something, "Have you found out who was the woman's accomplice?"

He wanted to offer that he'd be the one to torture the woman to get the information they need but with what happened, he won't have the chance to do so. He could only ask for the identity of the woman's accomplice who had killed six of his men and six of the backup team.

White Serpent's expression turned to an amused one as he nodded.

Shi San Jing became excited at the thought that those two were caught, "Where is she? She had killed 12 men in total, let her—" he wasn't able to finish his words when White Serpent interrupted. 

"They had already left," White Serpent calmly stated as though it was no big deal, then he turned around and walked away, "Go back and settle your transfer to the backup team." 

"What do you mean they left?" Shi San Jing asked as he followed him, "How is that possible? Was she rescued by someone?" 

"She was, but her rescuer was also caught." 

"Then where are they? She killed six of my members with a bullet in their heads! The least I can do is make sure the two of them suffer—" White Serpent suddenly halted in his place, prompting him to stop what he was saying. 

"Shi San Jing, your job is to ensure the safety of the person assigned to your team, there is no such thing as avenging in the position you're in."

He was aware of that. 

White Serpent has other people assigned to torture and gathers information, but how can he just be okay with the fact that the person who had killed his members was able to leave alive? 

"I'm only asking how they were able to leave. With how tightly guarded the villa is, it's impossible that woman was still rescued." 

"It wasn't impossible for her." 

"How is that even possible?" Shi San Jing was in disbelief. Every corner of the villa has surveillance cameras and Team 12 was there. 

"She offered me a deal and—" 

"Is there even any deal that is worth the two people who killed the person you assigned us to protect?" Shi San Jing exclaimed, earning him a warning glance from the man in front of her. 

"Shi San Jing, you're in no position to question my decision," White Serpent stated in an authoritative tone, making Shi San Jing correct his demeanor as he stepped back. 

Seeing that the man had calmed down a bit, White Serpent continued, "Her identity was enough to make me disregard the fact that she had killed Tang Shuren and several of Beta Team's men." 

He didn't accept Shadow's deal offer because she had a gun aimed at his head, it was because what that woman is capable of is impressive and he could even be certain that she is incomparable to all of the members of each team in Inferno. 

Just thinking about the fact of how young she was when she executed Xuan Bo and staged that kind of syndicate takedown made him question the ability of his men as they were nowhere compared to her. 

Every word that he had said to her was no lie, he wants her to work for Inferno as Fallen Vengeance will only drag someone as excellent as her. 

Shi San Jing's pupils constricted, "What?" 

"The woman you're after is Scarlet, an assassin from Fallen Vengeance, and her accomplice who had rescued her was Shadow." 

Shi San Jing didn't know what to feel with his superior's explanation. He was familiar with Fallen Vengeance and he knows a thing or two about Scarlet. 

Shadow on the other hand was an existence that had always left him in awe. 

Yet it was exactly her who had killed the person he was supposed to protect and killed his members. 

"Shi San Jing," White Serpent called out when he noticed the complicated expression on the young man, "It was my mistake for assigning your team to protect Tang Shuren, I thought your team's capability was enough. That's why I'm not making you leave Inferno as it was a mistake on my part also. Among the recruits you were the one who had the most potential, landing you a team leader position in just a year... But you're letting your emotions get to you. Do not be attached to your team members or anyone for that matter or that will be the cause of your downfall. In the end, you are just a group of people put together to protect a certain person." 

White Serpent had said those words as he was the one who had recruited Shi San Jing when he was 15 years old. Shi San Jing trained for more than 6 years before he was dispatched as a member of a Beta Team, then he was promoted to Team Leader. 

Shi San Jing was silent for a moment before he nodded, "I understand."

He had forgotten what kind of work he had gotten himself into. 

A work where his or anyone's life doesn't matter. Even being an assassin was a lot better as they could put their lives first before anything else. 

He was aware of the fact that Inferno wouldn't be where it is now if they care for every life that was gone in protecting their clients. 

"Settle your transfer to the backup team so you could start right away. Prove yourself if you want to become a member of the Beta Team again." White Serpent stated and was just about to turn and walk away when the man said something that piqued his interest.

"I will, and this time, I'll aim for the Alpha Team of Inferno." Shi San Jing stated with absolute conviction.
