Was Mo Chen Abnormal?
"Yes, Jiejie."
Mo Chen answered after a few moments calmly.
Mo Roulan smiled softly and put down the book. She didn't dare to show any surprise or shock fearing that it would make him nervous.
She wanted to behave very calmly in front of her brother so that he would also not feel nervous to share the things he had been hiding from her.
"You read them?"
She asked as she dragged a chair to sit beside him.
Mo Chen again took a few moments to answer his sister's question but Mo Roulan heard him saying in a low voice.
"I do."
Mo Roulan nodded her head. She still looked very calm as she held her brother's hand and messaged it from him.
"You continue writing all day? Give some rest to your hands as well."
Mo Chen looked at his sister. Perhaps she thought that he didn't know what she was trying to do but he actually could see what was going on.
She wanted to know about the books he had been reading. She wants to know why he was reading them. Actually, he only realized that he should have been careful in this matter.
However, nothing could be done now that she had already seen them.
He decided to be as honest as he could so that his sister would not doubt him.
"I don't write continuously."
He said answering the question she had asked just a moment ago. Mo Roulan smiled and continued messaging his hand.
She looked towards the books again and asked him
"You do understand them?"
This question was the trickiest for Mo Chen. He couldn't say that he didn't. If she opened the book now, she would be able to see whatever he has written, while reading, besides those huge formulas.
And there was no way that his sister would not recognize his handwriting so he could only tell her truthfully.
"I do."
Mo Roulan's smile stayed the same but inside her heart, she was a little anxious. She didn't even know why she was feeling like this.
However, she could no longer see any trace of her young Chenchen in the boy who was sitting in front of her.
He looked way too mature mentally as if he could already sense what she was trying to get at.
Perhaps the realization made her anxious.
She tried hard to stay calm and proceeded to her next question.
"How do you understand them? Isn't it too early for you to read them? They require the knowledge that you have not gained yet, right? And some of them are in foreign languages, right? When did you learn them?"
Mo Roulan asked all the questions she had inside her heart this time. She was too anxious. She felt afraid that she scared Mo Chen.
However, she didn't see any change of emotion on her brother's face and he looked way too calm as he answered
"I read many other books before reading them. I also read the basic books to learn those languages first."
The way he answered her question, he really looked as if he was saying the truth. But the words he said were too difficult to believe.
Mo Roulan didn't even know what she should say anymore or what she should ask.
She could only smile stiffly and nod her head as she whispered
"Good"
Then she stood up from the chair and turned around before she said
"You should sleep now."
"Alright, Jiejie."
Mo Chen said obediently and when Mo Roulan stepped out of the room she indeed saw that he switched off the light of his room.
He was going to sleep.
She leaned against the closed door of her brother's room. Her mouth parted as she breathed deeply and then exhaled out with her eyes closed all this while.
She didn't know what she should do.
It was not normal that Mo Chen could understand those books, right? Should she feel happy? She didn't know.
Should she tell her mother?
Mo Roulan shook her head. She didn't want her mother to worry.
A part of her thought she was worrying in vain as Cheng Yang said. It was a good thing that Mo Chen was so intelligent. Only a few children have such a brain.
But the abnormal thing was that he became like this only now.
He had never been like this before as much as she knew. With a conflicted heart, she walked back to her room and lay down on the bed to sleep.
The thought of her brother never left her mind until she fell into a deep slumber around midnight.
.
.
.
It was Sunday.
Mo Roulan woke up early to cook breakfast. Lin Qianru was surprised to see her inside the kitchen when she entered.
"You should be sleeping."
She said to her daughter. However, Mo Roulan shook her head as she said that she needed to go to the office today.
"Even on Sunday?"
"Yes, there is some work left."
She answered her mother.
Lin Qianru nodded her head and tried to help her but noticed that everything was already ready. She could only shake her head helplessly.
Mo Roulan smiled sheepishly and took the dishes to the dining room. Lin Qianru followed her with two other bowls in her hands.
When Mo Roulan came back to the kitchen, she glanced at her phone that was placed on the kitchen's slab.1
'Tell me, if you need me to be there today with you.'
It was Cheng Yang who messaged her. Mo Roulan felt her heart going warm when she read the message. Today she was going to meet Mo Chen's psychologist and she had to tell him everything about Zhu family's accident in detail.
She had to prepare herself mentally for this for a long time in the morning.
'I will be alright.'
She messaged Cheng Yang who replied back with 'still call me if you need me.'
'Alright'
She replied with a smile on her lips.
Putting down the phone on the kitchen slab, Mo Roulan closed her eyes as she inhale sharply. The image of the blood spreading on the floor flashed in front of her eyes.
It was from that day…the day she had killed the doctor who was going to remove her brother's heart.
She had to open her eyes when she heard a 'ping' from her phone.
It was He Jian who had texted her this time.
'I am here.'
The text said and Mo Roulan knew that it was the time to leave.
