466: The Engagement

The Engagement

As soon as they went back to the engagement hall, Cheng Yang was dragged away by a friend from college whom he didn't even know that much. However, the other person was too enthusiastic that he didn't even get the chance to refuse him.  1

Mo Roulan, however, found relief in this. She refuse when Cheng Yang asked her to come with him. 

She wanted some time for herself. So she immediately assured Cheng Yang that she would stand there only and he would be able to find her easily. 

So Cheng Yang was helpless as he didn't want to force her. 

Mo Roulan heaved a sigh when he left. 

She looked around wondering if she should go out for sometime. However, just when she was thinking of going out, she heard the deep familiar voice. 

"You must like him very much, right?"

Mo Roulan stiffened as she slowly turned her head to look in He Jian's direction. 

When she didn't answer his question, He Jian smiled …but his smile looked very cold 

"I am talking about Cheng Yang."

As he said these words, he stepped dangerously closer to her completely disreagrding the fact that they were in between so many people.

His heart was burning whenever he remembered the way she was hugging him a few moments ago. Oh, how he wanted to drag her away from this party and then take her somewhere away with him. However, the rationale part of his mind stopped him from doing that. 

"Tell me Lanlan, what do I lack?"

His voice was laced with desperation as he whispered this. His eyes were filled with pain, anger and helplessness. 

He had not been able to do anything in these past few days. Though he tried to make himself understand again and again that he should not disturb her life if she didn't want to be with him, he couldn't help but think of her in his free time. 

To avoid that, he even took as much work as he could. 

Still, she would not leave his mind. 

He would wonder what she must be doing. Would she be with Cheng Yang? If yes, then what were they doing? 

These thoughts will make him go crazy to the extent that many times, he came up with some kind of plan to separate both of them. However, the remembrance of her black brown eyes would always stop him at the last moment.

He didn't want to hurt her. He never wanted her to get hurt because of himself. 

He just wanted to see her happy . Had he not said that? 

Even if it was someone else, he should learn to adjust to that. But it was easier said than done for him. He couldn't help but wonder why she choose Cheng Yang but not him. 

"Do you not like me at all?"

He whispered looking at her with pain-filled eyes while Mo Roulan was frozen just like a statue.

"Why can't you love me? At least do tell me one reason, Lanlan otherwise I don't know what I will do."

His each and every word only created more mess and confusion inside her heart. 

He was standing here in the hall where soon his engagement was going to take place and he was asking her these questions.

What exactly did he want to imply? 

"What do you want?"

She asked him honestly this time. Her eyes were filled with clear confusion as she looked at his pain-filled eyes. 

"You are asking me why I don't like you when you are getting engaged to someone else?"

Her own question somewhat struck a string inside her heart and she couldn't help but remember her past life as she spoke sharply.

"Do you want me to chase you like some crazy obsessed girl while you will marry someone else in the end?"

Just like she chased him in her past life. 

Did he want that again? Ha…she was not stupid to do that. 

Mo Roulan suddenly looked at He Jian with so much coldness-filled eyes that it scared him. At the same time, he was very confused by her words. 

He opened his mouth to ask her what she was talking about when he suddenly heard his grandfather's voice. 

He looked towards the stage where his grandfather was standing with a microphone in his hands. 

"Ladies and gentlemen. I thank you for attending this party arranged by He family. Now, I wish to announce for what I have invited all of you here. Quite excited I am here so bear with me."

Grandfather He spoke with a wide smile on his lips. 

The engagement hall sounded with claps. 

However, He Jian turned his head away indifferently to hold Mo Roulan's hand and take her away so that they could have a conversation. 

He seemed to have a guess that she has some big misunderstanding.

However, he had just held her hand and said 

"Let's go from here."

When Mo Roulan pushed his hand away swiftly. 

Everyone's attention was now on He Jian and she knew very well that it was because of what Grandfather He was going to announce soon and here he was holding her hand. 

Was he even understanding what he was doing?

She wondered as she stepped away. 

He Jian frowned as he stepped forward but paused when he heard his grandfather's next words.

"I would like to ask my grandson and He family's only heir, He Jian, and Shen Family's elder daughter, Shen Yiling on the stage to announce their engagement which is going to take place today only."

Grandfather He was indeed excited as he continued soon.

"I would also like to tell everyone that the marriage will also take place soon …and by soon this old man means in the next month."

The engagement hall thundered with the sound of claps while He Jian stood there absorbing his grandfather's each and every word silently.

He looked at Mo Roulan finally understanding what she was saying. 

He didn't look at anyone else and hence was unaware of the people's eyes on him who were wondering why he was not moving at all. 

By now, Shen Yiling had already stepped on the stage with a shy but joyous smile on her lips. Almost every girl in the engagement hall envied her luck. 

However, their eyes were now filled with interest when they saw that He Jian was not moving at all.
