There Was Still A Hope
Chi Rong was shocked for a moment by Mo Roulan's outburst. But when he saw her tear-filled eyes, he tried to put himself in her place.
And then he could understand very well how betrayed Mo Roulan must be feeling.
"Roulan…listen to me first, alright?"
However, Mo Roulan couldn't hear him at all.
Her heart was hurt and she couldn't stop the tears that were flowing out of her eyes.
"Every day…every day I asked if she was alright. But no one told me what was going on here."
Her mind was filled with the image of her mother's thin body and pale face.
"She is my mother…I have the right to know if she is alright or not."
Mo Roulan whispered as she lowered her head and covered her face.
Five years ago, she was sure that she would save her mother. But at this moment, seeing her mother's condition, Mo Roulan was not as sure as she was back then.
She felt very weak and helpless.
Was it because of her?
She had been thinking about everything the whole way here. Why did her mother's disease return after five years?
Why just now?
Was it because she was trying to have something that was never written in her fate? Was it all her fault?
Chi Rong couldn't bear to see her like this. He knew that Mo Roulan and Mo Chen were still uncomfortable with the fact that he had married their mother but they were trying to adjust.
However, from the day Lin Qianru agreed to marry him, he had already considered Mo Chen and Mo Roulan as his children.
He didn't have children before and he never dealt with them. But for them, he wanted to learn and be a good father.
Both of them were good children but he especially liked Mo Roulan. He could see at the first glance, how sensible and intelligent she was despite her young age. In the past few days, he had also heard from Lin Qianru how Mo Roulan had handled everything five years ago when she had to undergo surgery.
And at this moment, seeing Mo Roulan like this, he felt his heart ache.
"Roulan…My daughter. Don't cry."
He said these words from the bottom of his heart as he stepped forward and took her in his arms despite her protests.
He patted her head in a fatherly manner and comforted her gently.
"Don't worry. Your mother is fine. I had just gone to talk to the doctor. You know what did he say…he said that Qianru is very strong. She is fighting against the disease. Her body is responding well to the treatment. There is a high chance she would be alright after the completion of the treatment."
When Mo Roulan heard this, her heart which was full of uncertainty was suddenly filled with hope. She immediately stepped back and looked at Chi Rong through her teary eyes.
"You…you are not lying to me, right?"
Chi Rong smiled bitterly. However, he also knew that Mo Roulan's doubt on him was valid. So he said
"I am not lying. If you want, I can accompany you to the doctor. You can talk to him."
However, as soon as he finished, Mo Roulan shook her head and said
"No…it's okay. I believe you."
Chi Rong smiled. He felt light after so many days.
He didn't know if it was because of what the doctor said or because he knew that Mo Roulan still trusted him. Or perhaps it was because of both.
He took out his handkerchief and helped Mo Roulan wipe her teary face. Mo Roulan was embarrassed and took it from his hand and wiped her face on her own.
It was good if her mother's treatment was going well.
Mo Roulan thought.
There was still a chance. She felt hopeful and alive again.
But a moment later, she looked at Chi Rong and asked
"Uncle, what is the cost of getting treated from here?"
Although her savings were spent, Mo Roulan remembered that her mother used to save a bit every month, and she could use that for her mother's treatment.
But she came out of her thoughts when Chi Rong suddenly flicked her forehead.
"Ouch…"
Mo Roulan cried out as she rubbed her forehead and looked at Chi Rong with a deep frown. Chi Rong smiled as he shook his head.
"You don't need to worry about that. I am here to worry about all this."
'I am here to worry about all this.'
As Mo Roulan heard these words, she felt dazed for a moment.
When she saw Chi Rong's gentle expression she felt as if someone had lifted a huge burden from her shoulder.
Indeed, Chi Rong was now there for her mother.
She didn't need to worry about money for the treatment.
But she was surprised when she suddenly felt his hand on her head and heard him say
"You, Chenchen, and your mother, all of you are my responsibility, Roulan. You don't need to worry about all this. Just enjoy your life."
These words made Mo Roulan's eyes teary again but she lowered her head immediately and blinked them away vigorously.
"Thank you."
She whispered softly with her head still lowered.
After she had stopped crying, Chi Rong gave her a key and said
"This is the key of our villa here. Go down. I will call the driver, he will drop you there."
Mo Roulan frowned when she heard this. She wanted to see her mother. But as if Chi Rong knew what she was thinking, he said immediately
"You can't meet your mother, Roulan."
The words made Mo Roulan's frown deeper.
Seeing this, Chi Rong sighed and explained to her
"Roulan, if your mother saw you then she will worry needlessly. You know how she is…the doctor has told me that stress is not good for Qianru. We need to take care a lot that she stays happy. Otherwise, her treatment will be affected."
On hearing this, how could Mo Roulan still insist on seeing her mother?1
She nodded her head reluctantly but smiled when Chi Rong said
"Don't worry. When she is asleep, I will call you and you can come to see her. You just need to avoid her when she is awake. Now you should go and rest. You must be tired after the long flight."
"Alright, Uncle."
Mo Roulan said and finally turned around to leave.
She was now certain her mother's marriage with Chi Rong was the best decision her mother made in her life.
Now, she just wished that her mother's treatment would not face complications.
Then, everything would be alright.
Lost in her own thoughts, Mo Roulan was unable to notice Shen Yiling who had been hiding across the corridor and hearing everything.
And her face didn't look good at all, when she saw Mo Roulan, who had been crying just a few moments ago, smiling as she left the hospital.
But there was no need to worry. Shen Yiling smirked as she thought.
She still had her cards hidden. Now she will take out them one by one and this time…she will not give Mo Roulan even the slightest chance to stand on her feet and compose herself.
