The Guilty Grandfather He
4Mo Roulan didn't want to avoid anyone in He Mansion. She knew it was impossible. If there lived people here except for her then it was natural to come across them. 3
However, she also didn't wish to interact with anyone.
Grandfather He, however, seemed to have completely different agendas.
"Roulan, where did you go today? Is everything alright?"
The old man asked with a sincere smile on his lips which made it look as if he was really worried. But Mo Roulan didn't really believe the smile.
She wanted to ignore thinking that he would stop speaking on his own if she didn't answer but Grandfather He, in the end, was He Jian's grandfather. He was adamant and asked again.
"Do you like the food cooked by the chef here? Tell me if you have any specific preferences. My granddaughter-in-law should have her full…"
Grandfather He stopped when Mo Roulan suddenly stopped eating and put down the spoon in her hands.
He thought that perhaps he overdid. She didn't have breakfast as well, He didn't wish that she would leave her lunch as well.
Just when he was about to apologize, He Jian looked at him coldly and said
"Can't you stay silent?"
After that, he turned to look at his father who surprisingly has also returned for the lunch, and said
"That's' why I wanted to stay at my mansion. He just won't let Lanlan stay in peace."
Grandfather He lowered his head with embarrassment.
He also felt sad. If it was before, he would have been so angry that he would have had a red face but the past two years had changed the old man.
He knew that his actions had caused the destruction of his grandson's life unintentionally.
It made him feel guilty and this guilt didn't let him feel angry.
On the other hand, Mo Roulan had different thoughts as she looked at He Jian with a deep frown on her forehead.
How could he talk to his grandfather like that?
Should he not be scolding her that she was ignoring his grandfather like this? That she was rude.
Looking at the old man who had his head lowered as if he had done anything wrong, Mo Roulan actually felt guilt filling up her heart. She forgot how this same old man had attacked her dignity and self-respect by showing her the money so that she would leave He Jian alone.
She came out of her thoughts when He Jian turned to look in her direction and said softly.
"Lanlan, shall we go to our room? I will have the maid send the lunch there for us."
However, Mo Roulan ignored him and looked at Grandfather He as she said
"I went to look for a job. I don't have any special preferences for food. As long as it is edible, I can eat it."
Her past life never gave her the chance to be picky. In the orphanage, she had to fill her stomach by eating raw vegetables as well sometimes.
So she wasn't picky with her food.
After finishing her words, Mo Roulan continued her lunch silently.
On the other hand, Grandfather He raised his head and looked toward her. He then saw his grandson's blank face.
All the despair vanished from the old man's heart and he suddenly felt proud.
Roulan didn't speak to anyone more than necessary but she did to him.
Grandfather He looked at his grandson with a smile but He Jian's face only went black as he picked up his spoon and ate lunch while sulking.
She could speak even to the old man but not to him?
But he could do nothing except sulking, could he?
They finished lunch in silence after that. Grandfather He didn't dare to ask anything else from Mo Roulan.
He actually wanted to say that she didn't need to look for a job. Why tire herself out when she could get anything she wanted? She just needed to open her mouth and state her wish.
Even he would complete his granddaughter in law wish. The condition was that she stays here as his grandson's wife.
It made his grandson happy and the old man wanted nothing else for now.
He Zhuang was amidst his lunch when he received a message. He looked at the message and then raised his head to look at father before he cleaned his hands with a napkin and then left the mansion without saying anything.

After lunch, He Jian had to leave for his office. He was actually tempted to stay inside the room and work from home but he didn't know if his presence inside the room would make Mo Roulan uncomfortable.
He wanted her to feel as if she was staying inside her own house and he knew that he would need to give her time for that so in the end, He Jian left for the office though quite reluctantly.
At night, when he returned Mo Roulan was already sleeping on the bed.
He closed the door carefully and went to the bathroom to change.
When he lay down on the bed beside her, he looked at her face for a long time before he fell asleep.
The next morning, he again left before Mo Roulan woke up.
However, on his way to the office, Chu Feng told He Jian something which made the latter's face cold.
On the other hand, Mo Roulan woke up and picked up her phone. The first thing she did was to check her emails.
A smile made its way to her lips after many days when she realized that she had got the job.
But her eyes went wide when she read the rest of the mail.
It said that she was supposed to reach the office today only. Mo Roulan frowned as she checked the timings of the office.
She was already late.
Sighing, she hurriedly got ready and then came out of her room.
She saw Grandfather He in the living room who smiled at her widely. Seeing the file in her hands, he thought that she was leaving to look for job again, so he showed his thumb and grinned as he said enthusiastically.
"All the best, Roulan."
Mo Roulan smiled tightly and nodded her head before she left the mansion in hurry.
