Miscarriage

The female doctor was the same doctor who had been Mo Roulan's doctor during the whole pregnancy. 

She looked confused as she said to He Jian. 

"Your wife miscarried Mr. He. It confuses me because the crucial months of pregnancy had passed already and she was completely fine when she came for a checkup this morning. From what I see, she was very stressed about something. Did something happen after you left the office?"

He Jian didn't say anything. 

He stood still. 

The doctor also looked at him with a frown but then thought that he must be very shocked so she looked at Grandfather He and said 

"Mother gets a huge shock in such circumstances. The family's care and love are needed a lot at such phases."

Grandfather He swallowed down the lump inside his throat and nodded his head. 

The doctor left after giving a few more instructions.

As soon as she left, Grandfather He raised his cane and hit He Jian's leg with it. 

"I told you to take care of your wife. What did you do to make her upset? If you can't keep the woman you love happy, why did you even marry her in the first place?"

He Jian didn't say a single word. 

He Zhuang looked at his silent and stiff son and asked 

"Did something happen Jian? Why was Roualn so stressed?"

He Jian came out of his trance and looked at his father. 

"It was Shen Yiling."

He Jian paused for a moment while Grandfather He looked at him confused.

"She came to the hospital as a nurse and pushed Lanlan to the ground. Lanlan was saved …but she looked very scared."

There was an ear-deafening silence in the corridor. 

Grandfather He no longer knew what to say. He Zhunag's lips were pressed in a thin line. 

It was only He Mingzhu who was confused and hence asked 

"Who is Shen Yiling?"

He Zhuang squeezed his wife's hand gently indicating that he will tell her later. 

After that, he looked at his son and said 

"We can't let her go this time so easily."

"I won't."

He Jian said coldly. 

This time, Grandfather He also didn't say anything in Shen family's favor.

Mo Roulan was unconscious for a long time. 

Everyone in the family was confused when He Jian didn't go inside the room to even see her face. 

It was He Mingzhu who stayed by Mo Roulan's side. 

Exactly three hours later, painful cries and sobs were heard from inside the room. 

Outside the room, He Jian was seated on a chair with clenched fists. His eyes were red as he heard each and every cry. 

His heart ached. 

But he didn't have the courage to see her in so much pain. 

Even when He Mingzhu came outside and asked him to go inside the room, he refused. 

"What is wrong with you? She is your wife. She needs you at such a crucial moment."

He Jian's throat wobbled. He didn't say anything and walked away from there. 

He couldn't go there. 

He was scared, very scared. 

He was scared that she would say that she wants to leave, that they would not stay happy with each other. 

Because that's what she did before. 

And he was also afraid that this time again, he wouldn't be able to stop her.

Three days passed when Mo Roulan was finally discharged from the hospital. 

He Jian finally saw her on that third day. 

He was forced to. 

He was pushed inside the room by He Mingzhu to gather the things so that they could leave the hospital.

For these three days, he didn't shed a tear. He didn't mourn for the child he and his wife had lost. 

But today, when he saw Mo Roulan…He Jian's eyes started to fill with tears. 

She looked so thin, so frail. 

Her face was pale and her eyes were completely emotionless. 

"Lanlan…"

He called out in a choked voice. 

His heart stopped for a moment when he saw her eyes moving to himself and yet they still stayed emotionless. 

He immediately walked to her and hugged her body tightly in his arms only to realize how cold it was.  1

She was so close to him but he felt as if she was so far away that he could never reach her. 

"Lanlan…I have already put her in jail. She will stay there for the rest of her life. You would never see her face."

He leaned back a little to cup her face. 

Kissing her forehead, he whispered again 

"I know it was a huge loss for both of us. I know you were eager to have this baby. But…"

"We will be more careful in the future. We can still have another when you will be more successful in your career and ready for it."

He Jian said many things. 

He tried his best to provide her the comfort he could.

But Mo Roulan was silent all the time. 

He Jian didn't know why he had a sinking feeling that something bad was going to happen. 

And he was right. 

It was when he stepped out of the hospital building holding Mo Roulan's hand. He was walking towards the car with her when suddenly another car stopped in front of them. 

He was surprised when he saw Chi Rong stepping outside the car.

He had informed Chi Rong of whatever happened but Chi Rong had been outside China with Lin Qianru and Mo Chen. 

They had gone to have a complete check-up of Lin Qianru's body in a New York hospital where she had undergone her surgery. 

In such cases, there were always chances of disease recurrence and Chi Rong didn't want it to happen in the case of his wife. 

"Dad…"

He Jian greeted Chi Rong who didn't even respond to his greeting. 

Instead, he forwarded his hand to take the bag which had Mo Roulan's medicines and some clothes from He Jian.

"Give that to me. Roulan is going with me."
