In the hospital.

By the time Gu Mian woke up, she was already in the ward. She touched her lower abdomen with her hand. She could not believe that there used to be a baby in her womb. 

She was not a good mother. She did not even know about the existence of this baby before it was gone forever. 

It was very quiet inside the ward, so much so that one could hear a pin drop. Gu Mian pulled up the blanket slowly to cover her head. She curled up. Tears flooded out of her eyes. 

Her lower abdomen was still in great pain, but it was nothing compared to the ache in her heart. She was in such agonizing pain that she could barely breathe.

Someone opened the ward room. It was the Tang family's servant. She said, "Young missus, I cooked some chicken soup for you. It's good for your recovery."

"I'm not hungry. You may leave first. Give me some alone time," Gu Mian said. 

"Young missus, I know you're upset about the miscarriage. Fortunately, you and the young master are still young. You're going to have children again." The servant tried to console her. 

"I beg you. Can you leave me alone now?" Gu Mian was genuinely devastated. All she wanted was being alone for a moment. 

Unable to change Gu Mian's mind, the servant could only shake her head in resignation and leave her alone for the time being. 

Gu Mian did not know how long she had been crying. She felt that this was the most tears she shed in her life. Once she was exhausted from crying, she fell into a slumber. 

Gu Mian lay in the ward for a day and a night. She did not touch the chicken soup that the Tang family's servant brought her. 

When she woke up the next day, she felt very thirsty. There was no drinking water in the ward, so she left the room to buy a bottle of water.

Gu Mian walked over to a vending machine in the corridor. She took out a few coins and inserted them into the slot, one at a time. When Gu Mian tried to insert the third coin, she felt dizzy all of sudden. The coin dropped onto the floor and rolled away… 

Gu Mian shook her dizzy head. She stepped forward, chasing after the coin. Once the coin stopped rolling, she squatted down to pick it up… 

A pair of leather shoes appeared in her field of vision. Gu Mian raised her head and saw Lu Ming's kind and friendly face. 

Gu Mian quickly lowered her head. She reckoned that she must be looking very drawn and pale right now. She quickly picked up the coins, turned around and was about to leave.

"Mian Mian, what happened to you? Why are you in the hospital?" Lu Ming grabbed her by the arm. Gu Mian's body went limp, and she immediately fell into his arms.

Tang Ming could tell that she was very weak. He furrowed his eyebrows. Gu Mian wanted to push him away, but she could not summon up the energy to do so. If it were not for him, she would most likely collapse onto the hospital floor.

"Mian Mian, are you sick?" Tang Ming asked.

"Nothing serious. I had appendicitis. Can you get me a bottle of water?" Gu Mian knew that she could not walk back to her ward on her own. She had no choice but to ask for his help.

Tang Ming furrowed his brows as he gazed at her. He reached over, put his arms around her and brought her to the vending machine. He inserted the coins and purchased a bottle of water.

He handed the bottled water to Gu Mian. 

"Thank you."

"You're still recovering. Cold water is not good for you. Where's your ward? I'll walk you back," Tang Ming said.
