2.21 Mediocre
"There are a lot of vampires right now so it's better if you stay in one place." Jeffrey said as he swung his bloodied sword, placing it across his shoulders. His gaze went through the guards to Lu Yizhou. "But I will really appreciate it if that gentleman there can accompany me. He looks powerful and smart. He's gotta learn the ropes too if he wants to travel to Istar right?"1
"No!" Theodore exclaimed before anyone could react. He grabbed Lu Yizhou's clothes tighter as if afraid the man would be taken away. And hell, he definitely was! No one told him that Gilith was a group of vampire hunters. What if Raphael got hurt because of them?! Theodore wouldn't allow it to happen! He hissed like a threatened kitty. "You're a bunch of experienced men, right? What do you need my servant for?! You should return to your group and not mingle around here. How dare you try to take Raphael away!"
The corner of Jeffrey's mouth twitched and veins popped up on his forehead. He let out an incredulous laugh. "I say, you—"
"Young Master is right." Lu Yizhou cut in with a tone that left no room for rebuttal. "I am Young Master's servant so there's no way I can join you and leave him alone. Please return, Sir Jeffrey. We really appreciate your help and we will make sure to reward you greatly."
Jeffrey seemed taken aback by Lu Yizhou's words. His expression seemed to wonder why Lu Yizhou kept on indulging this kind of temperamental brat. Letting out a scoff, he shook his head. "Fine. It seems like my presence is not needed here."
A few more gunshots rang out as they spoke and a member of Gilith rushed to their area, calling for the leader. "Boss, Boss! Come here! We found something!"
Jeffrey raised a brow. He gave Theodore and Lu Yizhou one last glance — which was of course returned by an intense glare by Theodore — then turned his heels, following his subordinate's direction and disappeared into the night.
The guards looked at each other and asked gingerly. "Young Master, is it okay if we don't give them a hand?"
Theodore snarled. "If you want to go then go! Either way, I won't move from this place!" And if was here then Raphael wouldn't be able to go anywhere either. This way, he would be safe from Gilith. Damn it, Theodore regretted ever travelling together with them. He should have chased them away since day one. From the start, he knew that Jeffrey would be a problematic man just in one glance!
The leader of the guards nodded and assigned three of the members to catch up to Jeffrey. The rest of them would remain here to guard Young Master Theodore. Lu Yizhou stared at the direction of the ruckus, a faint wrinkle on his brows. [666.]
[666: Yep, you're right, Host! Host is so smart that 666 doesn't even need to explain anything!]
As he expected…
This was the event where Jeffrey would rescue Selina, the female lead. After that, they would fall in love at first sight. Lu Yizhou rubbed his chin, contemplating. If he continued like this, Theodore would definitely be safe because there was no way Jeffrey or Selina would be able to lay a hand on him.
But now, the sole problem was his own identity. He was the Vampire King and he couldn't ascertain whether Selina would recognize him or not. Even if she couldn't, her inherent fear toward him would eventually give him away. In the end, he would pose a great threat if he stayed by Theodore's side.
He should separate their groups as soon as possible. The choices were either he didn't meet Selina at all or he had to find some ways to make her keep the secret.
"Young Master." He called out quietly.
"What?" Theodore snapped his head up, his face still grumpy.
Lu Yizhou patted his head in an attempt to soothe his fur. "Are you interested in taking a walk with this servant?"

"A hidden nest?" Jeffrey frowned.
"Yes." His subordinate replied somberly. Their clothes and faces were splattered with blood and corpses of the vampires littered underneath their feets as the man pointed in a certain direction. "Ed is currently inspecting the area to see what the vampires are hiding inside. He suspects that it's their family."
"Family?" Jeffrey scoffed, incredulous. They were only a bunch of blood sucking creatures who couldn't even recognize friend or foe when it came to feeding. Since when did they become so civilized that they could even form a family? That was the most laughable joke he had heard today.
Ah no, it wasn't. There was something more laughable; the fact that a brat could throw his weight around him, ordering him around as he pleased. Regardless of that, it wasn't the thing that irritated him the most.
Jeffrey didn't know either why he felt so annoyed to hear Raphael defending that brat. What was so good about Theodore anyway? Jeffrey had given his word personally and his members could vote that he wasn't the kind of person who would take an initiative to give such an offer, even more when it came to Gilith which he created from scratch. He was super protective and strict about the members who joined. The weird thing was, he hadn't even known Raphael for long — even less than a week — so what drove him to get close to that servant, he wondered? Was it his extremely stunning appearance? Or the detached and frosty aura that made his blood boil in the need to conquer, to make those silver eyes turn to him?
The members in standby didn't need to wait for long. Ed returned a moment later with an urgent look. "Boss, we have to bring everyone! It seems like the vampires had taken a few humans hostage!"
Jeffrey's eyes widened in surprise. He nodded and the members of Gilith rushed up to the cabin atop of the hill in full gear, Jeffrey took the lead. The cabin was small and hidden amidst the dense trees, a faint light came from within. He crept closer and leaned himself on the wall, peeking through the window to see what was going on inside. In an instant, he sucked in cold air and slammed the door open.
The sight in front of him was too shocking to the point where he was at a loss of words. There were at least twenty five people—both men and women, all of them wore shabby clothes with their legs chained to the ground, sporting a blank and hopeless look on their faces. They were so skinny to the point of emaciation. As soon as they caught sight of them, they instantly shrunk their necks, shivering in fear and dread.
"Ugh." Someone cursed behind him. "What the fuck is this place?! It looks just like...a slavery."
Jeffrey nodded. That was what he was thinking about. "We have to rescue all of them." The group started to break the chains and take the hostages out.
He scanned the surroundings and made his way to the inner area whose door was held by chains. He swung his sword to the lock and — bang! The heavy chain fell to the ground. Opening the door, he saw a small room with a much better condition than the one outside. There was only one woman locked here, proof of how valuable she was compared to the others. Sensing another's presence, her body instinctively curled up as if she could hide herself that way. "Don't… Don't come here…"
Jeffrey cursed the vampires under his breath. Repulsion and hatred bubbled inside his chest. Instead of entering, he crouched on the doorway and directed the most trustworthy and comforting smile he could offer. "Don't worry, you are safe. I am a human, you see. Just like you. Those shitty vampires have been killed. They won't be able to do anything to you again."
The woman fearfully lifted her head, showing a pair of doe, teary eyes that made people subconsciously wanted to protect her. A delicate and exquisite feature entered Jeffrey's sight. Even in this kind of horrible environment, she still looked dazzling and beautiful like a pearl that was covered in a layer of dust. Jeffrey would have been swayed if he hadn't known that a devastatingly gorgeous man like Raphael existed on Earth. He couldn't help but compare the two. Compared to Raphael, this woman could at most be mediocre.
He offered a hand. "Let's get out of this place. May I ask for your name, Miss?"
"I…" The woman stared at Jeffrey's roguishly handsome face, dazed. She blinked a few times, tears hung on her curly eyelashes, looking both pitiful and lovely. Biting her lips, she gingerly accepted Jeffrey's hand, her heart racing like never before. "My name is Selina, Sir… Thank you so much for saving me…"
