3.12 Altair Is His!
"Hey, have you heard of it?"1
"Yeah, many people have been talking about it. Is that true? Our school will finally have a transfer student and a winged beastman at that?!"
"Yes, oh God, a few boys who played basketball after school caught sight of him. The wings are a real deal you know. And guess what, I even heard the hearsays that the transfer student has more beast signs on his body except for the wings!"
"Oh my God, just the wings are already unheard of and he has more? Who do you think he is? How could it be possible that we haven't heard of him until today??!"
"Nah, no one knows about that. I heard that even the Principal went out of his office to welcome him. Sheesh, I really want to see what kind of beastman he is but Omegas like us won't have any chance to bump into an Alpha like him, right?"
Oliver opened his locker and coincidentally heard some students gossiping nearby. Wings...? Who else would it be? They must be talking about Altair! Oliver's heart skipped a beat and even though he had finished taking the notes he needed, he still stayed there to eavesdrop.
Altair...registered into his school? Why didn't the Alpha say anything about it?
Their last encounter was in the Royal Palace four days ago. After Altair and his colleague Derek officially made a visit to the Palace, Emperor Bernard had kept them there for two more days in order to show them around. With the excuse that he wasn't feeling well due to his first heat, Oliver seized the chance to take a leave of absence from school and accompanied Altair for those two days. Gradually, they got to know each other. Oliver learned that although Altair had a physique that would surely make him popular with Omegas, he had almost no experience at all regarding the sexual affairs of Alphas and Omegas. He also lived in a skyhouse a hundred thousand feets above ground. The breathtaking scenery, vast expanse of cotton-like clouds and majestic bursts of golden hour; Altair had promised to let him witness it all with his own eyes one day. Since then, Oliver couldn't get the imagination out of his mind.
During the days they spent together, Altair had never told Oliver about his true identity and the Omega didn't ask about it either. Somehow, Oliver got the impression that Altair knew he was aware of the fact, judging from how the Alpha could easily talk about his Eagle Alpha Father and Antelope Omega Father who only had each other for life because Eagles were monogamous animals. And as far as Oliver knew, the only Eagle-Antelope pair in the whole world was only the Emperor and Empress of Versatine Kingdom.
Somehow, the matter became kind of an open secret between them.
Last time, they were still talking animatedly about Altair's skyhouse. The Alpha had many opportunities to tell Oliver about his school transfer but why didn't he do so? Did he possibly want to give Oliver a surprise? Sheesh, did he have no idea that Alphas and Omegas' buildings were separated? Even if Altair wanted to surprise him, Oliver doubted whether he would be able to see the Alpha in the school building except for the canteen anyway. Nonetheless, just the idea alone was already enough to make Oliver giggle in happiness, earning him a few weird glances from the students around.
He snapped out of his blissful fantasy and cleared his throat, putting on a poker face as always. Taking the notes with him, he made his way to the classroom. However, he hadn't taken a few steps yet when a sharp shriek sounded nearby.
"Ah—AH! IT'S HIM! THE WINGED BEASTMAN!"
The loud exclamation drew everyone's attention in an instant and the Omegas poured out of the building with Oliver in lead. He gazed up at the sky, too mesmerized to take his eyes away and he was sure that the other Omegas also felt the same awe and admiration he did.
Altair's wings spread out magnificently as he flew across the sky and landed smoothly on the rooftop of the opposite building. His silver hair fluttered against the wind. Even though he was quite far away, the charm, minute gesture and the way he raked his fingers through his hair to soothe the messy strands exuded strong pheromones that made the Omegas squeal. His dark horns pointed tall, exceedingly exquisite and masculine. At that moment, he was just like an Angel who graced the Earth with his holy presence, it was a wonder how such a gorgeous beastman could exist. He was literally perfect from every angle.
Oliver held his loudly beating heart. He had long forgotten how to breathe, especially when Altair suddenly turned to his direction and their eyes met midair. After that, he gave a little wave. Instantly, the air was knocked out of Oliver's lungs. Did Altair just spot him from such a long distance...?
He was ready to return the wave when the Omegas around him exploded into squeals and screams. "Oh my God, did he just wave at me?!"
"No, idiot! He was waving at us!"
Altair was waving at ME, mind you. Oliver grumbled inwardly. Seemingly realizing that his presence had caused a small uproar, Altair turned and disappeared into the building. The Omegas booed in disappointment and finally dispersed.
Oliver harrumphed and followed the crowd in. Along the way, the students were gushing on how handsome Altair was and how he was the most attractive Alpha they had ever seen. A few bold Omegas even said that they wanted to wait outside the gate after school to see whether they would be able to catch another sight of the Alpha or even start a conversation with him. The more Oliver listened to it, the angrier he was. Altair was his! That Alpha belonged to Oliver and no one else! Nobody was allowed to drool over him except Oliver himself! He almost tore his notes from the strong force he used to grip it.
He would definitely be the first to catch Altair outside the school gate!
Oliver spent the day in class brooding why Altair had to be so gorgeous to the point where Omegas couldn't take their eyes off him. Well, he was no exception though. But Oliver was different! He didn't like Altair just because of his wings and horns. He was sure that even if Altair became an ordinary Beta, he would still madly fall in love with him. Yes, as long as it was Altair.
The day passed by awfully slow and as soon as the bell signaling the end of the class rang, Oliver stood up, hastily gathered his notes into a bundle of mess and dashed out of the classroom, the other Omegas hot on his trail. Oliver cursed vehemently. Why were they so wanton and promiscuous?! Weren't they afraid that they would be deemed shameless?! Altair didn't even know them, for God's sake! What did they get so excited for?!
Oliver's communicator beeped and he glanced down to see a message from Altair.
[Has your class ended yet? I am waiting for you outside the building.]
Oliver's heart skipped a beat and his eyes lit up like a burning flame. See, the person Altair waiting for was him! He hastened his pace as if injected by chicken blood and quickly threw the other Omegas behind. Fortunately, he was a cat so his steps were brisk and nimble, his black tail swinging back and forth in excitement. Oliver was so excited that he failed to brake when he turned into a corner and ended up bumping into someone.
Both of them tumbled on their steps. "S—Sorry!" Oliver was ready to dash after leaving that one word when he realized whom he bumped into.
Cathy, one of Rosemane's minion. As expected, as soon as the mouse omega caught sight of him, her face promptly morphed into one of disgust and anger. "Watch where you're going, son of a bitch!"
Oliver knew that he shouldn't let himself be provoked but it was a different matter altogether when the insult was directed to the one who gave birth to him. He halted in his tracks, eyes turning cold. "What did you say?"
Cathy crossed her arms and lifted her head arrogantly. "What? Did I say something wrong?" She jeered mockingly. "Rose told me. Your Omega father was so promiscuous that he wouldn't even let go of an Alpha who already mated with another. If that wasn't a bitch, what was? And you...are the son of the bitch. Isn't that perfect?"
Oliver was so angry that he laughed. "Watch your mouth." The sharp glints in his eyes surprised Cathy. It looked like he was ready to kill. Since when did the meek Omega become so bold? In the past, Cathy had also mocked Oliver similarly but except for throwing back a few spineless arguments, he did nothing else. How was it possible for someone to suddenly look like a different person?! "Get your facts straight before you come lest you will only embarrass yourself. For your information, I am older than Rosemane by a few months." He clicked his tongue and shook his head in pity. His tone was particularly condescending and filled with mockery. "I wonder whose Omega mother was more promiscuous."
"You—" Cathy glared. "Rosemane is a Princess that has been acknowledged by the Emperor himself! What are you?!"
Hearing the other's argument, Oliver was so amused that he couldn't help laughing. "So what if she's the Princess?" In the end, Oliver was the one who won. However, he refrained from saying that in fear that Cathy would spread some baseless rumors around and add to his problems. "And one more thing, even if I am an Omega, mice are still a natural prey for cats, you know? I would advise you to be more careful when you approach me." Oliver sneereed and brushed past Cathy.
Successfully rendering her at a loss of words offered Oliver a much stronger satisfaction than he expected. Why was he so cowardly before? He hadn't even tried to defend himself with the excuse that it would only create more problems. Such a weak-minded and pathetic Omega, how could he make Altair fall head over heels for him? From now on, Oliver swore that he wouldn't let anyone step on him ever again. He was going to live proudly with his chin held high. Not only for himself but also for Altair.
Oliver was so consumed in his own thoughts that he failed to realize that Cathy had silently snuck behind him. When he did, everything was too late. A spray of heavy odour blasted Oliver's face and he inadvertently took in a little sniff. However, that alone was already enough to make his body react in an instant. He stared at Cathy in disbelief as his legs gave out beneath him. Trembles shook his body and his hair stood on its end. Oliver choked on his breath, feeling the oxygen thinned around him. "What…"
This sensation… it was both unfamiliar and familiar at the same time.
Cathy took a few steps backward with a handkerchief covering her nose and mouth. She laughed at the pitiful condition Oliver was in. "It's a new product my Alpha father's company produced. It hasn't been released in public yet so be honored that you are the first consumer to test the effect."
Oliver's eyes turned blurry and he shook his head vehemently to keep his mind sober. His head was ringing and Cathy's words swiveled around him like it came from a faraway place. Wheezing, he grasped on his shirt and almost tore the buttons off if not for him losing his strength quickly. It was hot… He wanted to take it off. Itch bubbled up in his stomach and he faintly perceived the scent of his own pheromones leaking out. He could no longer support his body and slumped to the ground, breathing heavily. What...happened? This sensation...it was getting more and more familiar but also different at the same time. Dread crawled up his spine and Cathy's next sentence confirmed his doubt.
"This perfume will make Omegas show signs of going into heat." She smirked maliciously. "Awesome, right?"
