3.17 Scenting
Oliver's mouth gaped open in disbelief, his eyes glazed over as if he couldn't believe such a sentence could come out of Lu Yizhou's mouth. In all honesty, Lu Yizhou also didn't know what possessed him, the words came to him naturally and before he knew it, he had blurted it out. It might be the Alpha's instinct within him but he found himself unable to bear the thought of another Alpha coming close to Oliver. It was unexpected; the same as the intense rage he felt when Oliver was laying weakly in the hospital room, looking especially fragile as if he could die anytime soon.1
He gave Oliver no time to recover and backed him against the wall, his wing serving as the cushion so that the cat omega's back wouldn't feel cold. Nuzzling his head lower, he proceeded to let his pheromones out by a thread, slowly entangling it around Oliver's body. He noted the place where the scent would last longer; the back of his ear, his neck, the inside of his arms and also his inner thighs. Then he started to move and press his wrist everywhere around the area of Oliver's body.
Oliver almost choked on his breath when the Alpha's pheromones wafted in the air, seeping into his skin and coiling around him like the second air he didn't know he needed.
What did the man just say…? He was going to scent Oliver? And he was legit doing it now with such a serene look on his face? He blushed profusely, beads of sweat forming on the tip of his nose and the breaths came out of his mouth in light and quick puffs. Lu Yizhou pressed his lips under Oliver's ear and nipped on the soft flesh, eliciting a strained yelp from the omega. His hand shot up to grab onto Lu Yizhou's clothes tightly. It was strange… Oliver should have felt agitated and threatened— every single unbonded Omega would when they were faced with an Alpha who let their pheromones loose— surprisingly, let alone anxiety, there was only...pricks of pleasure, hum of need on the tip of his tongue and relief. Immense relief.
This was his Alpha scenting him. It seemed like even without Altair needing to mark him, Oliver's body and soul had taken the Alpha for himself. There wasn't even any sliver of resistance, not even his instinct.
He could feel his own scent floating out in response, sensually swaying and mixing with the Alpha's then fused into one. Roses. Nectar. It was a deadly union. Oliver gasped and threw his head back, baring the most vulnerable part of him in submission. Instead of the hard surface of the wall, he was only met with fluff. His body trembled despite himself, an instinctual reaction from a prey whose weak spot was in the claim of the predator.
Sensing the nervousness in Oliver's scent, Lu Yizhou paused. He pulled Oliver closer to himself and whispered deeply into the Omega's ear. "Don't worry. I will not do anything to hurt you."
Oliver pawed on the Alpha's chest, whimpering. He wanted to tell the Alpha that he had never felt afraid, that he could do anything to Oliver and he wouldn't receive any complaint but the words turned into a sharp whine when Lu Yizhou bit down softly on the base of his throat.
Pleasure shot up Oliver's spine and his eyes flew open wide, lips trembling. This wasn't a mark, the bite didn't even create any wound, more like a playful gesture to prove his harmlessness. Moreover, Oliver wasn't in heat and the Alpha didn't bite him on the gland but still, Oliver felt like his body was going to melt into liquid from how good it felt. His head burst in white and he only came to his senses when the Alpha lapped on the bite in an attempt to soothe. Oliver could feel the Alpha nose around his gland which was still covered with a gland patch and he shuddered from the sheer pleasure of hearing the deep hum that escaped from the other's throat.
By then, Oliver's scent had started to change. Sweet, with a hint of wintry snow that hid a commanding presence beneath. The combination of both of their scents. It was like having the Alpha stay inside him all the time. He came back to Earth with a shattering crash, his heart thudded violently. Only to find one of the Alpha's legs had lodged between his knees since God-knows-when, spreading his legs apart and Oliver himself...he...he had subconsciously grinded his hips against the Alpha's thigh. The flush in his face deepened in color but he couldn't help himself. The scenting had him delirious as if he was high on drugs and he felt suffocated by the hardness that was confined in his pants.
Lu Yizhou lifted his head to search Oliver's eyes. "It doesn't hurt, right?" His voice was hoarse and Oliver could see it was affecting him too.
Somehow the knowledge made his heart soar. Gleeful and exhilarated. He gulped and leaned forward to lick the tip of the Alpha's nose. "It hurts…"
Lu Yizhou made a soft sound of acquiescence and was ready to offer another round of licking and soothing when Oliver tugged on his clothes. "Not the bite…" He said, breathless and sat his erection on the Alpha's leg. "Here..." His black tail had long obeyed his instinct and coiled around Lu Yizhou's arm, tugging it down.
Oliver saw the Alpha's throat bobbing and unable to help himself, he stuck his tongue out and gave it a slurpy lick, his throat purring. Oliver had never let out such a loud purr before in his life, not when he was lucid. It was inviting and bewitching, almost as if he was currently in heat.
Lu Yizhou's breath stuttered and his fists by Oliver's head clenched. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath—a wrong decision on his part because all he could take in was the musky scent of Oliver's excitement and sliver of his own in between. "Don't move." He growled out in warning and Oliver froze. An Alpha's command. Oliver was unable to refuse it, only whimpering in protest.
Lu Yizhou cursed under his breath. He swore, every single world just gave him an intense headache. Just when he thought everything couldn't get worse, his outlook would be refreshed again and again. Just by standing close to the omega, sniffing in his scent and looking into his eyes, Lu Yizhou got half hard within seconds. He found himself constantly thinking of sinking his teeth into Oliver's milky skin and just imprinting a faint tooth mark was enough to make his blood sing in thrill and joy. Exactly how could Altair remain unmoved with numerous Omegas around him when his body had such a high libido?!
Snap out of it, Lu Yizhou. What are you, a horny teenager?!
"What's wrong…?" Oliver gingerly asked, the rims of his eyes faintly reddened. Seeing the Alpha shutting his eyes with a deep frown was akin to pouring a douse of cold water above his head. He sobered up in an instant and dread crawled up his stomach; one that he didn't want to admit. Altair left him alone in his heat even though his body was perfectly ready for mating, he never touched Oliver unless necessary and even now, the Alpha only scented him...as a precaution. There were bits and pieces of clues everywhere but Oliver had always brushed them off, thinking that it was a form of Altair's courtesy but now he couldn't deny himself anymore. He had always been ready to give himself to Altair but all the Alpha did… was keep him at arm's length.
"Do you…" No, stop Oliver, don't say it. You're going to regret it when everything ends. His mind screamed but there was a part of him that urgently needed confirmation. And so, he did. "Do you only take me as a task to fulfill...?" He looked straight into the Alpha's widened eyes and his heart dropped to the pit of his stomach when he could find nothing in those silver eyes except extreme shock. No denial. Oliver pressed his lips together to keep his tears from spilling. Yet he couldn't so he brought his arms up to cover his face. His lips trembled. "Sorry, I—I didn't mean to cry. You… Can you let me go?"
