3.21 Calm Him Down
Lu Yizhou was coming out of the principal's office after discussing the Flower Festival that would be held in a few weeks time in the Alaze Kingdom. It was an annual festival that ran for one full week with a long list of events such as the night market, auction, games but it wasn't the one which was enough to draw the attention of the Crown Prince of Versatine Kingdom. It was the main event: Arena Fighting. A one-on-one freestyle battle between all Alphas throughout the kingdom. Everyone whose secondary gender had manifested was eligible to join and more often than not, the event would become an opportunity for the Emperor to recruit Alphas into his Elite Guards. Citizens could also bet on the winner and make fortune from it. Arena Fighting was the most awaited and popular event in the Flower Festival and also one of the main plots in the original world. 0
Ryan, the main protagonist, would enter this event, defeating every single Alpha in the kingdom with his wits, charm and graceful strength, earning him not only the admiration of many omegas but also the Emperor and Princess Rosemane's attention. It was through the event that Ryan would be recruited into the Elite Guard after he graduated from school and became Rosemane's personal bodyguard. The two's love story started from there on. The dignified Princess and her loyal guard, it was a marvelous story of two individuals with different status full of plot twists, a tear jerker through and through.
Altair's father, the Emperor of Versatine Kingdom, demanded him to join the event to promote their kingdom's fighting style in Alaze. That was also what the Principal relay to him earlier. This event was also suitable to announce the Crown Prince's identity and create the exchange student program between Alaze and Versatine. It was like throwing two birds with one stone. Being the nonchalant beastman he was, the original Altair had no plan to follow his Emperor father's demand. He disliked attention and loathed crowds with every fibre of his body. Despite this event being the easiest way to build cooperation between two kingdoms, he opted to take the long measure instead for his own convenience. That's why his stay in Alaze was suspended until months otherwise he could already leave after around a month. In the end, no one even realized that he was the Crown Prince of another kingdom. He came and went silently, never leaving any traces.
Lu Yizhou was contemplating his choices; he certainly had no problem joining with the mere purpose of being the main protagonist's stumbling stone. He was confident in his own strength and he got the feeling that defeating the main protagonist would offer him immense satisfaction. Talk about him being the villain but it was a small price after the horrendous crime Ryan had done to Oliver in the original plot.
If the main protagonist was truly as exceptional as the original plot made him out to be, this would just be a small obstacle in his road to supremacy, no? However, Lu Yizhou knew for certain that if he did everything too quickly, the Emperor of Versatine would be satisfied with Altair's performance and demand him to move from one kingdom to another to do the same thing as he did in Alaze.
If that happened then...he would have no excuse to stay by Oliver's side.
[666: Just bond with him then! If you're his Alpha then you have every right to stay in Alaze as long as you want!]
Lu Yizhou pinched his brows, sighing.
[666: Honestly bzzz….bzzz… 666 doesn't understand why Host is hesitating. Do you mind forming a bond with Oliver?]
Mind…? He had every reason to. First and foremost, he couldn't imagine taking a part of another and making it his own, to cherish them inside his heart and hold them tenderly in the cusp of his palms. To receive someone into his solitary life was something that Lu Yizhou hadn't even considered before. If one were to ask Lu Yizhou when he was still alive, he wouldn't hesitate to shoot them right on their forehead for offering such a horrendous idea. He was Lu Yizhou and the thing he hated the most was weakness, especially one which he came to accept on his own accord. Being Oliver's mate meant he would be responsible for his well-being and happiness. To share their emotions and insecurity, to go through every single day together…
Could Lu Yizhou do that? He knew that he had given his promise to Oliver but back then, he did it more to reassure Oliver's anxiousness. Only after that did he sit down and truly went through the 'Guide to ABO World' book which 666 downloaded for him. Being mates in this world was utterly different from what Lu Yizhou imagined; it involved a whole lot of feelings, emotions and…earnesty. Lu Yizhou pursed his lips. Did he really want to let another person into his life after everything he had gone through? More than that, could he really be able to fulfill Oliver's expectations of him? To be a good, loving Alpha for him?
What if… What if Oliver regretted it after being bonded to him? What if Oliver was already stuck to Lu Yizhou for life before he realized that Lu Yizhou was nothing like what he'd imagined him to be? What if he ended up making Oliver suffer like what Ryan did in the original plot?
[666: Sheesh, seriously why is Host so dense?! You said it yourself that you bzzz….bzzz…. want to stay by Oliver's side until he dies. What's the difference between it and being his mate? Or do you content to just be by his side and see him mate with another Alpha?!]
Mate with another Alpha… The notion hadn't even seeped fully into his mind before a surge of blinding rage burst forth. His chest lurched with an intense murderous urge to kill whoever dared to lay their hands on Oliver. "No!" He growled, teeth baring. "He's not allowed to mate with another!"
[666: A—ALRIGHT! No one is going to steal him away, okay?! He's all yours!!! Sheesh, Host is getting more and more terrifying with each world QAQ Don't bare your teeth at 666, it's so scary!!]
Mine, Oliver is mine! No one was allowed to touch him except for me! Every cell in his body sang in chorus and then in the next second he was stunned, shocked speechless.
What's wrong with him…? Lu Yizhou had never experienced such a strong emotion before. Did that really come from himself or Altair's instinct inside his body?
Lu Yizhou got no chance to comprehend it properly when a loud commotion came from outside. Frowning, he walked to the window and peered outside to see students running wildly into the opposite building while some had fallen on their knees, gasping breathlessly. A crowd was formed in the middle; Alphas and Betas holding the enraged Ryan back as his claws were reaching out toward… Lu Yizhou's pupils dilated in an instant and his eyes saw red. Before he realized what was happening, he had already broken through the window and lurched down from the fifth floor. The next time he blinked, Ryan's head was already on his grip. The Alpha was terrified and the knowledge barely soothed the tense nerves in Lu Yizhou. He pulled his lips back and snarled. "How dare you." He hardly registered the words he said and the continuous warning beeps in his mind. What was left was only pure rage. A violent storm of fury. How dare he. How dare he! Lu Yizhou wanted to kill, he wanted to tear Ryan's limbs off and see him bleed to his death—
"Altair..." A clear, gentle voice pierced through the cloud in his mind followed by a tight embrace behind him, holding him tightly. He could feel the person's throat purring, his heartbeats and his scent which was more comforting than any other medicine. The madness in Lu Yizhou's eyes promptly receded like a magic spell.
Oliver's body. Oliver's scent. He saw fair and thin fingers reaching out to grasp his hand which was gripping Ryan's head, gently tugging. And just like that, Lu Yizhou let go. His mind was numb and the only voice he could hear was Oliver's, and he chased after it desperately just like he needed air to breathe. "Alpha…" Oliver cupped his cheek and leaned their foreheads together, his eyes gentle and loving. "Don't be angry. I am fine. He did nothing to me. You came just in time." Oliver giggled and Lu Yizhou's heart tightened. Not in a deplorable way but in a way in which he could give anything just to hear that again. "Have you come to? Yes, yes, it's me, Oliver."
The omega leaned forward to brush the tip of his noses together and licked the corner of his lips, his calming scent filled Lu Yizhou's lungs. Clarity slowly returned to him and only then did he realize that he had been whispering the omega's name again and again and every time he did, Oliver would hum in response and kiss his face. Just like that, until he snapped out of his stupor and the sounds around him came back in full force; the screams of help and the yelling of the teachers, command after command was spoken to bring the situation under control.
During the time when he was focusing on Oliver, the teachers had arrived to control the situation. The affected omegas were quickly brought away while the injured Alphas and Betas were treated on site. The source of all problems, Ryan, was currently under restraint, still unable to bring himself out of the near death experience. His arms were bound and neck held in a chained collar as he growled at everyone nearby like a mad dog. In the end, he had to be pulled back by the teachers to prevent him from pouncing on anyone. It was apparent that Lu Yizhou's offensive pheromones had forced him to go feral.
Another set of collar was held in the teacher's hand and he observed Lu Yizhou warily. Oliver caught sight of it first and instantly jumped forward and put himself in front of Lu Yizhou. "He's fine! He hasn't gone feral yet!"
The warmth in front of him abruptly disappeared and Lu Yizhou whipped around to chase after it, bringing Oliver back into his embrace as his head dropped to the crook of Oliver's neck and inhaled deeply into his skin, nosing the gland hidden beneath the patch. A strained yelp escaped the omega's lips before his body promptly relaxed and he leaned back into Lu Yizhou's chest. "It's okay. I won't let them take you away..." He nuzzled his cheek on Lu Yizhou's head and turned to the teacher, eyes blazing with defiance with his arms spread wide as if they had to pass his corpse first before they could touch his Alpha.
"We can't confirm it yet. His condition is still so unstable." The teacher frowned. "It's better to take him to the hospital for a check-up before he completely loses his senses. He hasn't bonded yet, has he?"
Oliver paused. "...No, he hasn't."
"Then all the more reason for him to get treated." Sighing, the teacher continued to advise. "It's fine if he has a mate because only his omega will be able to calm him down…" His words trailed off as he looked at Oliver and Lu Yizhou back and forth with a strange expression. "You said he hasn't bonded yet? That's weird, he has gone halfway feral but you could bring him back? Child, you're showing proper signs of being mates. That's quite...marvelous."
Oliver blinked. Heat crept up his cheeks, staining them crimson. "Is—Is that so?"
