"Ahhh! Look! He's up there!"2
The atmosphere instantly shifted as soon as the people noticed Lu Yizhou who was standing on the edge of the rooftop building, the hem of his shirt billowing against the wind. The sunlight served as a backdrop to his spiral horns and wide, breathtaking wings. Despite merely standing there, it was as if people could sense the power and commanding aura that he exuded.
Oliver found himself unable to take his eyes away—like how it had always been—when the Alpha took off surging up to the sky before diving straight on to the stage, landing perfectly with grace. His wings folded as his eyes landed on Ryan who stared at him with a sneer. "Show off," he mouthed, to which Lu Yizhou responded with only a slight movement of his raising brow.
Instead, he turned his head, eyes parting through the crowd until they landed on the wide-eyed Oliver.
Oliver swore that his breathing abruptly ceased. The two of them were locked in a heated moment, neither was willing to break eye contact first. The cheers and hollers all around faded to nothing and for a split second, it was as if they were the only two people in the whole world. Oliver greedily took in his figure, his silver eyes which told volumes, so bright and piercing like the sharpest spear made of steel. They spoke to him in a silent tune, and once again Oliver was reminded of the words he said a few days ago.
I will return victorious and present the glory to you.
Altair had promised. He said he would win. This was the time, Oliver thought, this match would be the one that decided everything.
"Please take your position, Altair and Ryan. Guys, are you ready?!" Amidst the thundering screams, the MC spoke louder, almost shouting into the mic. "The showdown match to decide the winner for Arena Fighting will start in three…two…one!!!" He swung his hand down and the bell buzzed sharply. The timer started to count the time.
When the MC had just counted to one, Ryan had moved as swift as wind with the ferocity enough to kill, lunging forward to where Lu Yizhou stood with hands wrapped in white bandages hanging by his side. He was fast, faster than any matches he had gone through before. Sharp intake of breaths and gasps were heard from the crowd as his attack induced wind gale, the dust and sand spiralled obstructing the sight as powerful waves of pheromones swiped through the air. The metal ring rattled and the protective shield was turned on to contain the pheromones within. Still, everyone who was witnessing the fight vividly felt how intense it was.
Oliver stood up from his seat, eyes unblinking as he waited for the dust to settle down. And when he did, he saw Lu Yizhou raising an arm to the side of his face to block Ryan's attack. The impact caused his feet to slide a few inches back and the drones faithfully recorded how dents were made from where Lu Yizhou was standing.
Ryan had put a considerable amount of force into that one punch and Lu Yizhou's arm was numbed from blocking. Vigorous and relentless, the leopard Alpha started to use his whole body, targeting every single vital part with a precision that could kill. "Why are you only defending huh?" He grinned in bloodlust, panting. "Come ah, come at me. Why don't you attack me like you did last time?"
Lu Yizhou's eyes narrowed.
[666: Host, Host, calm down! You don't want to accidentally kill the main protagonist!]
666's cries served as a timely reminder. Lu Yizhou inhaled and directed his wing to slap Ryan to the side, taking the leopard Alpha off guard as he was sent crashing to the metal ring. Lu Yizhou cracked his neck and stared at his opponent with a frown. He knew that this was the main plot from the original world. Ryan was supposed to obtain the first place but Lu Yizhou was going to make sure that he wouldn't be able to. It would be easy to subdue Ryan, just like how he did with his previous matches but… he took in the rage in Ryan's eyes, the flash of humiliation and the boiling desire for vengeance. This kind of Ryan no longer set the victory as his goal.
He was hellbound on injuring Lu Yizhou, or preferably, incapacitating him by accident so that he wouldn't be able to get out of the bed again for the rest of his life.
Lu Yizhou couldn't help but let out a tired sigh. The first world's protagonist, Jing Xuehao, went through such lengths to seduce him. The second, Jeffrey, was a tad better although in that case it was Lu Yizhou who chose to avoid any kind of interaction for fear that the jumpscare in the first world would repeat all over again. Now the third world… it was different. The protagonist no longer wished to get into his good grace, instead, they wanted to get rid of him.
Ryan recovered soon after to give another strike and Lu Yizhou's body moved subconsciously to put on defense. It had all been ingrained into his bones. Just with a bit of observation, he could fairly judge where Ryan would attack next. Lu Yizhou would have no problem taking him on for longer—that was, if Ryan didn't constantly give off pheromones. Lu Yizhou felt it prickling on his skin like repeated sharp stabs of small needles. He smelled of anger, desperation, excitement but there was also a sliver of fear. But above everything else, the scent it emanated was beyond provoking. It irked Lu Yizhou again and again.
Aren't you the great Altair? Why are you so lame? Why don't you come and kill me? Is this the extent of your strength?
Veins popped up on Lu Yizhou's forehead and he could feel his patience running thin. Ryan was provoking, waiting for him to lose his cool. Lu Yizhou had seen it just a few moments before; it was the exact same strategy he used against Hubert, the fox Alpha. To induce the enemy into rage, it was a dirty yet brilliant plan if executed properly. And Ryan pulled it off with flying colors. As they exchanged blows after blows, the smirk was consistent on his face, egging Lu Yizhou to the edge of his limit again and again. Lu Yizhou's mind was ringing and the instint within him was telling him to finish Ryan off. How dare he! Who gave him such huge courage?! Just finish him. Finish him and everything would end.
