3.37 Let's Go Home

Oliver let out a faint sob, his eyes never leaving the thrashing Alpha. Hearing the paramedic's words, something in his mind suddenly snapped and he threw the arms holding him off in one violent shrug. His face twisted in rage as he hollered. "I said...LET ME GO! Can't you see him?! He's WARNING you not to touch me! Fuck you, how dare you touch the omega of an enraged Alpha right in front of him?!" He stood in front of Lu Yizhou's cage and bared his teeth threateningly. "See if you dare to touch me one more time, I will bite your head off!"2

The people's faces turned dumbfounded from Oliver's sudden outburst and for once, he finally got peace. And true to Oliver's words, as soon as they raised their hands and stepped back, Lu Yizhou's struggle ceased until he finally calmed down.

Oliver sent a vehement glare around before he finally kneeled in front of the cage. Tears welled up his eyes when the Alpha let out a small inquisitive sound. "En, it's okay. Nothing happened to me. They're idiots, I know." Oliver stretched a hand into the cage and his tears fell when Lu Yizhou leaned his cheek into his palm, gentle and affectionate. Who said that Altair was dangerous? How dare they treat him like this! "Hang on. I will get you out soon. I will…"

"Does His Highness…understand him?" The medic wondered in awe.

"I told you," The teacher sighed. "They're mates-to-be. If there's someone who could bring Prince Altair back, then it would be Prince Oliver."

Oliver raked his eyes all over the Alpha's body. With each wound he found, he grew increasingly distressed and heartbroken. "You're injured… Does it hurt? What should I do for you?" He held onto the metal bars and shook it. Of course it didn't budge even a bit. The cage was specially designed to detain feral Alphas. But Altair wasn't feral yet! He was just angry. Anyone would be angry if they were provoked mindlessly. This treatment was too much! He turned to give the paramedics a glare. "Let him go."

"But…"

"He's not feral! He recognized me and furthermore, he's injured! Can you take responsibility if anything happens to him?!"

The paramedic was rendered speechless. "This…" He turned to seek advice from the teacher yet what he got was only a nod. He finally surrendered with a sigh. "Fine. We will open the cage first. If he shows signs of violence, then we will directly come and knock him out. Deal?"

Oliver snorted. "That will never happen."

There was a click then the metal bar slowly rose to the air. As soon as there was a gap where he could get through, Oliver directly slid in and threw his arms around the Alpha, hugging him so tight like his life depended on it. He took in the familiar scent of winter and rose, this time it had turned soothing and gentle, very comforting. A growl escaped the Alpha's lips at his bound hands and Oliver once again directed a pointed scowl toward the medics. "You heard him. Let him go."

Apologize but he couldn't hear anything other than incoherent garble, the medic grumbled. Nonetheless, he still released the binding from around the Alpha's wrists and as soon as his hands were free, they instantly came together to crush Oliver into a hug. "Yes…" Oliver breathed and almost burst into tears right then and there.

Tension promptly loosened from his shoulders and he melted into the Alpha's embrace. They had just been apart for less than two hours but for Oliver, it might as well be his whole lifetime. Here, smothered by the Alpha's bone crushing hug and being scented by him all over, Oliver finally felt complete. Lu Yizhou pressed open-mouthed kisses around his gland, his teeth grazing dangerously close to the flesh and Oliver shivered. This should alarm him, Lu Yizhou's body was boiling hot and his breath splayed across his nape, ragged. But all Oliver felt was an endless bout of safety. In this embrace, he belonged. He tucked his nose into the crook of Lu Yizhou's neck and inhaled deeply, taking in the spike of his wintry pheromones that's mixed with hot sweat and metallic blood.

Blood. Right, his injuries! Oliver wriggled himself out of the embrace which earned him a protest howl. But Oliver simply brought their foreheads together and cupped his beloved's cheeks, his thumb smearing the blood on his face. Oliver sought his eyes, trying to find the slightest hint of discomfort. His eyes were red from heartache. "Does it hurt…? What should I do?"

Lu Yizhou's pupils were still abnormally huge and his canines poked out from his lips. He blinked as if trying to understand what Oliver said and it was so awfully adorable that Oliver couldn't resist going on tiptoe to press a kiss on his chapped lips.

A rumble of satisfaction geared out from the Alpha's chest and in return, Oliver felt himself purring. From his peripheral vision, he could see the paramedics talking to each other all the while never letting them out of sight. Oliver tensed at the thought of them taking Lu Yizhou away and sensing his apprehension, Lu Yizhou let out a growl and hid Oliver's body with his wings, hissing at everyone nearby.

"Altair…" Oliver craned his neck to meet the Alpha's eyes. Lu Yizhou's lips opened and closed repeatedly, wanting to say something but the only thing that came out was only a string of meaningless garble. Yet Oliver understood him in an instant. He sputtered. "Y—You're going into rut? Yeah, yeah, that's logic. You're affected by Rosemane's pheromones." Don't panic, don't panic Oliver. Take a deep breath. Well damn he couldn't. Altair's rut had arrived one month earlier than the expected date! "Then…Then, what should I do? Shall I…" He pursed his lips and said tremblingly. "Shall I leave you alone…?"

The response he got was immediate. The Alpha's eyes widened in rage as if that was the most offensive thing one had ever mentioned. He held Oliver flushed against his chest. His wings fluttered open, sending wind gales across the room. The paramedics and teachers' eyes widened in shock. "H—He… Stop him!"

It was too late. Lu Yizhou had spotted a hole in the ceiling, presumably the damage he had done due to his outburst earlier, then shot up like a missile and brought them both out into the vast sky, the people shouting and calling forgotten below. Oliver immediately lost a handful of breath due to awe. The wind mussed his hair up and the cloud hadn't been this close before. From his position, he could see the fighting ring in the middle of the yard and ants-like people swarming, gasping and pointing at the sky — at them. Bubbles of laughter peeled out of Oliver's lips and Lu Yizhou's lips ticked up in response. Gliding across the sky, the Alpha looked much happier, freer and unrestrained. Oliver tightened his hold around Lu Yizhou's neck, trusting him to bring them wherever he wished.

Lu Yizhou bent his head to catch Oliver's cold ear in between his teeth and Oliver sucked in a breath. "No, I'm not cold. And I'm not angry. I can never be angry at you, Altair. Let's go." He closed his eyes and smiled. "Yes, our home."
