3.64 Too Frequent
Oliver's hand flew to his mouth, a quiet gasp escaped his lips. He slowly looked down at his own stomach in disbelief, wonder, and amazement. His voice was barely a soft whisper. "I am…pregnant?"0
"That's right, Your Highness." Oblivious — or to be exact, heedless — of the omega's shock, Doctor Verren flipped through the file atop of his desk and showed it to them with a smile. "This is the sonogram that's printed after we have done a full-body check up on you." He pointed at a little white dot swimming amidst the monochrome photograph and Oliver's hand shook violently as he reached out to stroke it. Tears brimming in his eyes. "This is your fetus, it's a bit shaken after the incident but overall, everything is okay. But I have to confirm something though. Your Highness Prince Oliver, you didn't consume the vial I offered you last time, right?"
Oliver shook his head, flustered. "N—No, I didn't! I swear I didn't!" He let out a sigh of relief and proceeded to wrap his arms around his belly, gingerly, hesitantly, not even daring to put on the slightest pressure. Everything suddenly clicked in place. The nausea he felt every morning, the obvious lethargy, the mood swings and… the dream. The silver wings and large adorable silver eyes; grabby paws and soft, tiny body. Oliver couldn't hold back his sobs. So the dream was real… he thought that it was his yearning that had manifested into a wishful dream, but he was wrong. His child, his child with Altair, had come to visit him in the dream.
"Okay, it's good that you didn't. At first, I was quite worried that there would be some complications during your pregnancy because of that but now that I have received your confirmation, I am rest assured."
Oliver was too overwhelmed with the news to register what the doctor said. He belatedly realized that he was still holding on to the Alpha's hand and tugged on it. "Altair…!" His smile faltered as he took in Lu Yizhou's frozen expression. Oh, they had never discussed having children before, he thought with a sinking realization. Oliver had always assumed that they were both okay with it but…was it not the case? "Altair, is there something wrong? Are you not…happy?"
Lu Yizhou snapped out of his stupor and tore his eyes away from the sonogram to look down at his mate. The omega's golden eyes were nervous, blinking with apprehension and anxiety that he couldn't mask. Lu Yizhou promptly went down on one knee so that Oliver wouldn't have to strain his neck to look up at him. He grasped both of Oliver's hands in his. "How can I not be happy? It's your child."
"Our." Oliver corrected, relieved. His face broke into a dazzling smile "It's our child."
"Our child." Lu Yizhou repeated, the word sounded foreign on his tongue. Pregnant. Oliver was pregnant with their child. Tension released from his shoulders, one that he didn't know he had, upon seeing the twinkle of happiness in Oliver's eyes. Right, he could do this. He could cherish them both, Oliver and their child. He imagined a small version of Oliver in this world and his heart softened just the same.
"Are you so surprised that you can't react on time?" Oliver grinned, wide and mischievous.
Lu Yizhou hummed.
Truth to be told, he couldn't exactly say he did. He was a little taken aback, but somehow the notion had always existed in the back of his mind. He knew perfectly the consequences of locking themselves together for six days in the bedroom. He was aware, for Derek had slipped a box of morning after pill and birth control in the basket of food which Lu Yizhou could give to Oliver on the second day of his heat.
However when he returned to the room and saw Oliver's longing expression as he rubbed his belly that was stuffed full with Lu Yizhou's semen, Lu Yizhou found himself crushing the box in his palms and let nature take its course. And here they were, two months and five days later. A new life was growing inside Oliver's flat stomach, a little bean which would grow into a baby in the near future. Lu Yizhou felt a swell of protectiveness that urged him to take Oliver home and keep him safe within the expanse of his territory. He wasn't going to let anything happen to them, no matter what.
"I am." He replied in the end and brought Oliver's knuckle to his lips. "It will be hard on you."
Oliver's eyes reddened and he sniffled, hitting the Alpha playfully on his shoulder. "Oh you! What's so hard about this? I am willing to go through it a thousand times over. I can even imagine how our child will turn out already!"
Doctor Verren cleared his throat, conveniently reminding them both that there was another presence in the room and they'd better not start to make out right there and then. "If you two have recovered from your shock, may I continue?"
Oliver nodded bashfully. He was vibrant with happiness and excitement even when he was lectured by the doctor regarding the things he could and couldn't do, food he had to avoid, and vitamins he had to take every single day which Lu Yizhou took notes with a solemn expression. He remained in his daydream until the doctor suddenly breached a more personal topic. "One last thing, may I know many times you're engaged in sexual act in a week?"
Oliver froze as color rapidly traveled across his cheeks down to his neck. Why were they talking about this again?!
Lu Yizhou answered readily without a change of expression. "Every day, usually once, or twice if—" if Oliver was feeling particularly enthusiastic, which was more often than not, resulting in Lu Yizhou — this silent protester but actually a huge ball of horniness inside — to get hard again and indulge in the omega's wishes. It seemed like the doctor could painfully fill in the blanks, judging from the constipated look on his face, and he raised his palm to interrupt before Lu Yizhou could wholly elaborate their bedroom matters and caused Oliver to die out of sheer embarrassment.
"That's enough, thank you for the information." The doctor cleared his throat and tried to word the next sentence as politely as possible. "I apologize to tell you but that's too…frequent for a pregnant omega in their first trimester. I am not saying that you should refrain from doing it altogether but at least, try to reduce it to three or four times a week. One thing you must know, Your Highness Prince Altair, is that a pregnant omega is especially sensitive, moody and they need the presence of their Alpha the most."
Lu Yizhou recalled the suffering Oliver went through in the original plot; pregnant on his first heat, the male protagonist unwilling to acknowledge their child, then being exiled to another country and miscarried, alone. How scared was he? How much agony had he gone through? His heart constricted tightly at the thought and anger surged forth his chest even though he knew that he had brought Oliver out of that misery situation.
As if sensing the Alpha's turbulent emotion, Oliver gently scratched Lu Yizhou's palm in silent inquiry. Lu Yizhou shook his head to disperse the thought. Oliver was safe now. He would remain safe and happy, as long as Lu Yizhou was still breathing. "I understand," he answered as he held Oliver's hand tighter. "I will be by Oliver's side all the time."
