3.74 Bianca's Favorite Person
In a sense, Bianca was a very independent baby, if that word could literally be used to describe a tiny infant. 2
She seldom cried and she knew how to make a ruckus in order to get attention if her diaper was wet or her tummy was growling. The most she came close to crying was when Lu Yizhou didn't immediately approached when she called for him — in that adorable baby voice of hers that consisted of only 'ah, ah, ah' — which, in Lu Yizhou's defense, was perfectly justifiable since he had just returned home carrying with him the dust and grime from outside. He held a palm toward the baby and said, "Give me five minutes to wash up." But he hadn't even got the chance to get to the bathroom yet when Bianca suddenly hollered atop of her lungs and reached for him to the point where she almost toppled down from her crib. Fortunately, Oliver was there to catch her in time.
"Ah, Altair…" Oliver struggled to hold the squirming baby in his arms. "Please hurry. She has been missing you so much!"
In the end, Lu Yizhou opted to only change out of his clothes and washed his hands, the shower forgotten. As soon as he came close, Bianca abruptly stopped crying and stared up at him with wet, doe silver eyes, flushed cheeks and an aggrieved look as if Lu Yizhou had just offended her a great deal. Her tiny silver wings fluttered adorably. Grabby paws reaching out to him, lips babbling incoherently. "Ah, ah—"
"Oh, I am wounded. Look at her, I am the one who gave birth to her but she likes you the most!" Oliver teased.
Lu Yizhou took over the baby from Oliver's arms. In an instant, Bianca snuggled into the crook of her Alpha father's neck and smacked her lips in satisfaction. He held her with one arm while the other reached out to caress the black circles under Oliver's eyes. "Not sleeping?"
Oliver hummed and leaned into the touch, smiling. "Bianca has been very active. I have to distract her every five minutes, you know, before she starts to look for you."
Both of them hadn't gotten enough sleep for the past five months since the baby's birth. Bianca needed milk every two hours and oftentimes, she would rouse from her sleep in the middle of the night and start to make a ruckus inside her crib — shaking the rattle with all the strength her little arm could muster, deliberately squeezing the rubber toy to make high squeaky sound — the signal that she was either hungry or had to poop. Lu Yizhou was faring just fine, since he was used to not getting much sleep in the first place. However, the continuous sleepless night had taken its toll on Oliver. Lu Yizhou had always told him to go back to sleep and he would take care of everything but the omega was just so stubborn and followed him out every single time.
"If I don't interact with her often, what if she gradually forgets me and only recognizes you?" He huffed in retort.
"Impossible." Lu Yizhou denied. Oliver was an indispensable part in their daughter's life and Bianca adored him the same, much to Oliver's complaint that the baby didn't really need her omega father except for breastfeeding time.
But it didn't escape anybody's eyes that Bianca's favorite person had always been Lu Yizhou, for reasons he himself couldn't comprehend.
Her first word had been 'daddy', the endearment they decided to use on Lu Yizhou (It's 'mommy' for Oliver); the first time she learned to stand, it had been because she wanted to show off to Lu Yizhou who was watching over her whereas Oliver was catching up on some sleep — Oliver had made a fuss until weeks later about it. "Why didn't you wake me up?! This is very unfair!" — and she also took her first step toward Lu Yizhou.
Later, her favorite pastime was learning how to fly with Lu Yizhou. Bianca loved to sit on her daddy's shoulders and grabbed his horns as Lu Yizhou brought them free falling from the roof in order to train her immunity toward height. She squealed and giggled as the wind caressed her face, little wings flapping in excitement. Not surprisingly, she learned how to fly before she could even walk properly.
When Bianca was over one year old, they finally held their much delayed wedding in Versatine.
Because Lu Yizhou had been worried that Oliver would feel sick if they traveled to Versatine during his pregnancy — and also because he didn't want any complications to happen as in the original plot — they had opted to stay in Lu Yizhou's condo until the baby was born. After that, because Bianca was still too young, they delayed the visitation again until the time when Bianca was independent enough to be separated from her parents — even from such a young age, she had been very sassy and bold — so that her grandparents could take care of her.
Oliver fell in love with Versatine at first sight. The kingdom was smaller than Alaze yet somehow, it was more boisterous and lively. Situated atop of the mountain, it was a lovely kingdom with ethereal scenery for the sky and clouds seemed closer to the touch, almost as if he could reach out to it. He also got to fulfill one of his lifelong wishes: to visit Altair's skyhouse. His jaw literally dropped in awe as he took in the open ceiling house that floated above the clouds. The walls had been broken down, leaving only one spacious room that had everything; a king size bed, small sofa, table, and pantry that was filled with pans, spices and foodstock.
"Do you live here?!" Oliver inquired excitedly after he had finished touring and gushing over every little thing in the room. It actually wasn't much different from any ordinary houses except for the open ceiling and the unique location. Which made everything become more special! The natural lighting, the burst of golden light through the clouds… Oh! He couldn't imagine how beautiful it was at night!
"I do." Lu Yizhou took one look at the yearning on Oliver's face and offered, "Should we stay the night?"
Oliver's head snapped to him, eyes widening in shock. Then his expression morphed into one of pure glee very similar to Bianca when she managed to get what she wanted. "Yes!" Oliver threw himself at Lu Yizhou, pulled his neck down and captured his lips in a short yet fervent kiss. "Yes, yes!" He laughed, body practically vibrating with excitement. "Oh God, I can't wait!"
And the scenery didn't disappoint. As soon as the sun descended from the horizon, Lu Yizhou turned on the heating and went to join Oliver on the bed. The omega rolled over to him as soon as he laid down, head securely tucked to the crook of his neck. "It's so beautiful…" he sighed in awe. The sky was a splash of deep blue, purple with a tinge of orange and interspersed in between was twinkles of hundreds of stars. He had his gorgeous Alpha by his side whose arms were wrapping around his waist. For once, Oliver actually got confused where to look because the scenery and his Alpha looked breathtaking all the same!
Lu Yizhou caught the omega sneaking glances at him once in a while from the corner of his eyes and got the urge to smile. It was so easy to make Oliver happy. The sky was indeed beautiful, the stars sparked brighter as the day turned darker, but Lu Yizhou opted to look at Oliver instead, gazing at his dreamy eyes, his brilliant smile and the excited flush on his cheek.
As a result, when Oliver snuck another glance at his Alpha, his heart stuttered when he saw that Lu Yizhou hadn't been admiring the scenery at all!
"W—What are you looking at me for?!" He pushed Lu Yizhou's jaw away. "You have to look at the sky!"
"Oliver is more interesting to look at." He said with a tone as casual as someone commenting on the weather.
Oliver flushed deeper. Even when he had been living and sleeping together with the Alpha for more than a year, he still couldn't prepare his heart for his sudden direct words. He swallowed thickly, the sky-gazing forgotten as their eyes met midair. Golden clashed with silver, one smothering while the other bashful. Sparks instantly flew in the air. The atmosphere turned heated and Oliver propped himself up to engage the Alpha in a slow, deep kiss, relishing in the intimacy that only both of them shared.
"Oliver…" Lu Yizhou whispered when Oliver's kisses trailed down his jaw.
"Hmm?"
"You have to wake up early tomorrow." His fingers dug into the soft flesh on Oliver's waist, pulling a breathless moan from the omega. "I don't wish to tire you out."
The mention of their upcoming wedding ceremony seemed to sober Oliver up. He lifted his head and directed an aggrieved look at Lu Yizhou.
Once again, Lu Yizhou had to marvel at the uncanny similarity between Oliver and Bianca even though the baby girl's appearance clearly took after him.
"You're a meanie." Oliver grumbled under his breath. "You tempted me and left me alone."
"I did no such thing." Lu Yizhou's eyes were full of mirth. He cupped the back of Oliver's neck and brushed the tip of their noses together. For a while, both of them were gazing at each other as if they still couldn't believe that this was real. And Lu Yizhou indeed often felt like he was dreaming. He knew that this was temporary. There was a time when he had to wake up and the remaining time made him cherish what he had even more. "Oliver, are you happy?"
He had no idea what kind of expression he was making right now but Oliver's eyes welled up in tears as he bobbed Lu Yizhou's nose. "Silly Alpha, do you still need to ask that?"
Lu Yizhou breathed in the omega's sweet scent. He smelled happy and blissful. "I want to hear you say it."
"I am," Oliver beamed. A droplet of tears fell from his eyes directly to Lu Yizhou's cheek and Oliver bent down to kiss it away. "I am the happiest omega in the world. You made it so."
"Good." He exhaled. "That's very good."
Tomorrow, they had a wedding to attend. Lu Yizhou would wear Versatine's royal uniform as he waited at the end of the aisle, waiting as Oliver emerged from the gate holding Empress Gemma's arm. Their eyes would meet midair and Oliver would offer him one of his sweetest smiles. Lu Yizhou's heart would skip a beat for Oliver was more than breathtaking. He was ethereal as he was clad in a bright crimson wedding gown, the hem of the long skirt brushed against the floor like trailing flame, pulling everyone's eyes to him. He would hold Oliver's hand as he repeated the vow he had once previously said and from his peripheral vision, he could see Empress Gemma and Emperor Vincent with little excited Bianca between them, watching over the procession with tears in their eyes.
The priest would officially pronounce them husband and wife, a lifelong companion until death did them part.
After that, Lu Yizhou would wipe the tears on Oliver's cheek and kiss him under the cheers and well wishes of the guests. He would whisper into the omega's ears the promise he had once made known. "I will treasure you, Oliver. Until the day you leave this world, I will."
Until then, he still had time to savor the contentment of having Oliver in his arms as they drifted off to sleep under the faithful witness of the starry night.
