4.5 No Golden Finger
Lu Yizhou raised a brow.2
Sensing his thoughts, 666 clarified in a haste. [All characters appearing in this world are simulator-generated. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, is purely coincidental!]
[Sure.] Lu Yizhou answered readily, yet still managed to make himself sound dubious.
[666: Host, you don't believe 666, do you?!!]
After the death of Jingxue-Jun, the whole cultivation world grieved, even more so Ling Chuwei, as she was practically Jingxue-Jun's closest shimei[1]. The little girl who used to tag along with him whenever he went had grown up to be an intelligent, bold and beautiful lady. She went to the only person who would understand her, Shan Duoyin, because he was practically saved from the fate of living off the street and digging through garbage by Jingxue-Jun's generosity of bringing him back to the sect and requesting the Sect Leader to take him in as an exception. He was Shan Duoyin's savior.
"Heimo…" Ling Chuwei was seething with rage, tears blurred her charming eyes. "I will kill him! I swear I will kill him with my own hands!"
Shan Duoyin nodded somberly, trying to suppress the pain and sorrow in his heart. "Count me in."
He revered and respected Jingxue-Jun as his shixiong and an ultimate role model. Yet lately, he had felt something… more. Something different that made his heart beat faster everytime he was in the presence of Jingxue-Jun, something that made him unable to take his eyes off the man, something that made him want to be better and better so that he could make Jingxue-Jun proud of him. Alas, before he managed to identify what it was, the man had left this world. Tragically. How could Shan Duoyin be reconciled?!
The two protagonists bonded closer after their beloved shixiong's death, seeking warmth and comfort like two wounded animals that tended to each other's wounds.
Together, they roamed the world to eradicate monsters and killed every demonic cultivator they met along the way. Days and months passed and they grew even more intimate. They had seen each other at their worst, had saved the other from the brink of death many times, had changed the bandages and applied medicines in embarrassing places of their bodies, and had been stuck in situations where it ignited the hidden fuse of their veiled desire many times more than they could count. Maybe it was the camaraderie, or maybe it was because they were the only ones who could understand each other perfectly. Something had definitely changed… yet neither moved to define it, letting the ambiguous air hang between them.
It wasn't until they met the kind old man who gave Shan Duoyin the cultivation book that their relationship took a permanent change. It turned out, the old man was an immortal who failed at his last heavenly tribulation to ascend due to his lingering worldly desires. As a result, he was stuck in the mortal realm, neither able to die or leave. Shan Duoyin met him again when he and Ling Chuwei fell down into a valley when they were exploring the traces that were left by the Black Demon.
The immortal cultivator's condition wasn't good, he was trapped in a hidden cave with a curse mark on his body. "Heimo did it." He said in a somber and exhausted tone. "He…is too wicked and covetous for his own good. This one coincidentally chanced upon his grand plan to summon the demonic realm upon his land. This one tried to stop him but… he was too powerful. He has gotten way too powerful, it's impossible for a human to achieve…" He sighed and shook his head in resignation.
Shan Duoyin and Ling Chuwei's jaws dropped in shock. "He planned to do what…?!"
If—If their world was to merge with the demonic realm… Shan Duoyin shuddered at the thought, the consequences would be unimaginable! "Despicable!" He punched on the rock wall. "What does he actually want?! He—He killed Jingxue-Jun, and now he wants to drag the whole world down to Hell?!"
"You have to stop him." The immortal insisted.
Ling Chuwei spluttered. "This humble one apologies for her rudeness. You are an immortal but you couldn't even beat him…" So what did it leave them? The unspoken words hung between them with a sinking realization.
The old man smiled bitterly. "No offense taken. You're right, Young Lady, I couldn't do it." Then he turned to Shan Duoyin. "But you can."
"M—Me?!" Shan Duoyin's eyes widened in shock. "I—How can I…"
An agreement was quickly made. Ling Chuwei was to return to Lingyan to inform everyone of Heimo's vicious plans whilst Shan Duoyin stayed behind to train under the immortal cultivator's tutelage. It was during the harsh training that Shan Duoyin awakened the power he didn't know he had before; The Heavenly Bloodline. The very opposition of demonic energy. To fight the dark, they needed the light and Shan Duoyin was the very definition of light.
A year later, Shan Duoyin, together with an army of cultivators, joined hands to exterminate Heimo once and for all! It wasn't an easy war, blood was spilled and lives were lost. But in the end, good always prevailed over evil. With the help of his awakened bloodline, Shan Duoyin forced his way through the Black Demon's undead army and stabbed his sword right into Heimo's chest and nailed him to the ground, burning his whole body with heavenly fire in revenge of Jingxue-Jun's brutal death. It took forty nine days and forty nine nights for Heimo's body to disintegrate into ashes, yet the cultivators who had fought in the war seemed to still hear Heimo's hair-rising and grievous cries even after a long, long time.
The subsequent event was the conclusion.
Shan Duoyin got together with Ling Chuwei soon after. They had had enough of being afraid of the shadow of death and separation, neither knowing whether they would make it out of the war alive. With the relief of having avenged their shixiong, they fell into each other's embrace as natural as the sun that shone from east and set to west. They got married afterward and in the end, Shan Duoyin would become the Sect Leader of Lingyan in the future. His name would be known throughout the world as a hero and he could finally deliver a proper burial for his poor mother and exerted punishment for the family who had flogged her to death.
Lu Yizhou swiped, swiped and swiped yet there was no continuation. That was the end of the original plot. [There's no more?] He frowned. [What about the villain's backstory? What kind of life had he been living before he threaded the path of demonic cultivation? Why did he want to open the gate to the demonic realm? More importantly, why did he kill Jingxue-Jun and why is it different this time around?]
This… This was the first time Host had spoken this much to 666. Honestly, 666 was very overwhelmed that he was at an utter loss of words. Should 666 feel delighted that Host was so enthusiastic about the mission?
[666: Um… that, Host, if you remember, 666 has told you before. The first three worlds are considered the newbie trial, you're given the complete plot from both the protagonist and the villain's perspective and you're also given the newbie golden finger as a powerful and convenient character. This is the fourth world so…]
Lu Yizhou filled in the blanks. [I don't have a golden finger anymore and I no longer obtain the plot from the villain's eyes.] Great, just great, he thought. [What about the time limit?]
[666: You have 14 months until Heimo will open the gate to the demonic realm, Host! And 666 swears, it won't be like this in every world! This one… This one is — psst, Host, come closer and let 666 whispers to you — 666 suspects that we have offended the Admin God that's why we landed in such a precarious situation. Moreover, this is the world of cultivators, demons and immortals, so the initial level of the difficulty is already A, and now it's being upgraded to SSS Level again!!!]
[A Level? The one that can challenge the existence of the simulator itself? What does it mean?]
[666: Well, 666 doesn't know either… *puppy eyes*]
Lu Yizhou huffed a sigh. Alright, he had gotten used to his system's incompetence. At least he knew the main subplots that led to the villain's demise. Jingxue-Jun's death had been the fuse that started it all, followed by the immortal that chanced upon Heimo's plan, then his encounter with Shan Duoyin and Ling Chuwei in the hidden cave and lastly, Shan Duoyin's training to awaken his heavenly bloodline and the ending war.
His brows furrowed in frustration. It still wasn't enough. Even if he could prevent every step that led to those subplots, he would still be helpless if the villain was adamant on opening the path to the demonic realm and earned the ire of the entire cultivation world. Why did he do it? For what reasons? Lu Yizhou was sure that he wouldn't do something like that for no reason. But he had too little information to draw a conclusion.
For starters, he had definitely sensed the murderous intent coming from the Black Demon. In the end, why didn't he kill him? And why was he so gravely injured?
Questions swirled in Lu Yizhou's mind and he could feel himself growing more and more annoyed by the abrupt change of events. He didn't like it when things had slipped out of his control and he had the feeling that this world might very well go haywire. In the previous three worlds, he transmigrated into the time before the villain ever suffered from harm but it was different this time. If previously the villain's blackened percentage was 0%, then this time he entered when it was already 50%. Lu Yizhou didn't doubt the villain's prowess. In the scenario where Lu Yizhou didn't appear, the villain would have become the Young Master of the mafia organization, the feared and bloodthirsty Vampire King and lastly, the close partner of the leader of the rebellion group. This time, he had become the Sect Leader of the Demonic Sect and Lu Yizhou had passed up the opportunity to prevent it from happening.
Gripping his sword tighter, he stared into the fire, trying to map the next course of action he should take. He was so consumed by his own thoughts that he didn't realize that beside him, Heimo had regained consciousness a few while ago, his amber eyes staring up at him, unblinking.

[1] Shimei = junior sister // Shijie = senior sister
[2] Shixiong = senior brother // Shidi = junior brother
I hope you don't mind me keeping them as they are. I think it's more pleasant to read this way as it's cultivation arc QAQ
A/N: This 5 chapter mass release is dedicated to ThisPrince. Thank you so much for the magic castle
