[Bonus chapter] 5.20 How About A Kiss?
Terra lifted his head from the sketch book in surprise when he heard the door opening, followed by Lu Yizhou whose eyes softened considerably as soon as they laid upon him. Like always, his heartbeat fluttered uncontrollably and he found himself bashful for no reason. He shut the sketch book which he had been doodling on, slipped it beneath his pillow and cleared his throat. W—What was he doing here? Not that Terra didn't want to spend some time together but… but Kai and Doctor Wyatt seemed to have a serious problem to talk about. Terra had thought that Kai wouldn't come again today.0
(Terra definitely wasn't sulking because he had been left out.)
"Sorry." Lu Yizhou said as soon as he sat on the side of the bed and tucked the strands of hair behind Terra's ears. "Have I made you wait?"
Terra felt his ears heat up at how easy the man's touches were; a pat on his head, a caress on the shell of his ear and his chin, the thumb grazing the corner of his eyes, the broad palm cupping his cheek. How— How could he be so touchy feely? Terra furrowed his brows. Or had Kai always been this kind of person to begin with? Someone who would freely touch another without inhibition? Someone who was the opposite of Terra who… who was always overwhelmed everytime he was on the receiving end of the man's affection?
"Your mind is wandering again." Lu Yizhou tugged gently on Terra's long ponytail. The slight pull on his scalp sent electricity down Terra's spine and he could feel the pinprick of goosebumps forming on his arms. His eyes widened by a fraction and he sucked in a deep breath to calm his abruptly accelerating heartbeat. W—Why? What was this ticklish and pleasurable sensation and why did he always feel like this in the dark sentinel's presence? "If there's something that makes you upset, tell me okay?"
You. You have been making me upset since day one. Terra pursed his lips tighter.
Ever since Kai entered his life, Terra almost couldn't recognize himself anymore. Where had the vigilant and aggressive guide gone? It was as if Kai had plucked every single thorn on his body and what remained was only the tenderest part of himself. He felt awfully… exposed and vulnerable. Terra didn't quite like this feeling. It was as if he was turning into the guides he had heard in the stories in passing, who could do nothing but to rely on their sentinel forever. The meek, submissive guide like how society dictated them to be.
"Terra, look at me." The gentle yet demanding voice that left no room for rebuttal brought Terra out of his spiralling thoughts and he looked up to meet the sentinel's concerned and hesitant eyes. "Are you… afraid of me?"
Afraid? Terra frowned and shook his head. He was wary of Kai at first but now, not anymore. Terra wasn't afraid — he hadn't been for a long time. It's just that…
The sentinel's eyes were ever patient and soft as if he knew that Terra needed time to process the complicated emotions he felt. By now, Terra had almost been convinced that Kai could indeed do so. Or else wouldn't their perfect compatibility come to naught? Alas, how unfair it was. If Kai could read Terra's mind, Terra wished that he could read Kai's mind too. He was itching to know what was going on in Kai's mind. Was he ever… displeased to know that fate had bestowed him a guide like Terra? He ought to be a prominent member of society, a General, a man of high standing whilst Terra… he wasn't even recorded in the Guide Association.
A gentle flick landed on Terra's forehead and he blinked, bewildered. Did Kai just hit him…?
"Cease whatever you are thinking about now." Lu Yizhou admonished softly and reached out to hold Terra's hands in his. His hand was large, warm and rough with thick calluses forming throughout the years of physical training. By now, Terra had started to recognize the roughness and corners of it even with his eyes closed. "Terra, you are the most beautiful person I have ever met. You're perfect… I really can't ask for more." Shivers traveled up Terra's arm every time Lu Yizhou's thumb stroked on his knuckles. So distracting that Terra almost missed what the man was talking about. But when he did, it took him a while to register the words. Perfect…? The sentinel thought he was perfect? And beautiful? How—
"I know I am a stranger to you but trust me, Terra, you haven't been one to me since a long, long time." He brought Terra's knuckles to his lips and the guide felt thunderclap crash right into him when the softest and warmest lips brushed against his skin. That… That was… Then the man spoke again, and Terra was helpless but to place all of his focus on those mesmerizing silver eyes. "It's perfectly alright if you feel overwhelmed by everything. It's a lot to take in, right?"
Terra found himself nodding, much to his exasperation. Since last night, it was as if his life was turned upside down and he was swayed ceaselessly amidst the whirlwind of storm. Kai was… well, he was attractive, intense, sexy, gentle, had the hottest body, most piercing silver eyes Terra had ever seen, and sexy and — alright, he was the most perfect guy Terra had ever seen and he thought it was quite justified as he had a knack for judging people.
That's also why he dared to take a gamble and receive Doctor Wyatt's offer to come to this place and it had been one of his best decisions so far because he could meet Kai in the end. Okay, Kai was right, he was overwhelmed. He was definitely panicking. How was it possible for him to get such a perfect sentinel? What if everything was merely a dream in the end and he would wake up only with the reminiscent of fading silhouette?
"Breathe, Terra. Breathe with me." The man started to take in exaggerated breaths which Terra mimicked subconsciously. Air filled his lungs and his body finally stopped screaming in protest. Oh, he had forgotten to breathe again. For a while, he shut his mind down and let his body do what it needed. Inhale and exhale. Finding the perfect rhythm to match with Kai's, as if they were one entity separated into two bodies. It's so easy, Terra thought, to revolve around Kai's orbit. The sentinel exuded a very strong pull and once Terra stepped into his space, he was doomed to be unable to escape ever again.
"Feeling better?" Lu Yizhou traced soothing circles on his palm. Terra slowly came down from his overdrive panic and nodded, the tips of his ears heating up. "Good, listen to me. You're precious to me, Terra. Much more precious than you might imagine. I don't want to mess anything up." The corner of his lips curled down and Terra found himself reaching out to soothe it away, hating the sight of him being unhappy. Lu Yizhou let out a helplessly fond sigh and held his wrist, gentle and firm at the same time. "I wish to get you accustomed to my presence. Will you let me, Terra?"
Terra blinked a few times. That's… not a bad thing to do. But how?
"First," Lu Yizhou tapped on his lips, an indecipherable glint on his eyes. "How about a kiss?"
