7.10 I Will Remember You!

Damn it, damn it, damn it! Zion cursed vehemently as he shook off his pursuers' trail all the while clutching his bleeding stomach. Fortunately, he dodged in the nick of time otherwise the bullet would have gone straight to his heart!0

That fucker Moshe… he was seeking death! Wait until Zion got back to him. By that time, Zion would make sure to wipe that repulsive smile off his face!

Zion gritted his teeth as he merged with the crowd in the entertainment district. It was close to the suburban area, the hubbub of BBQ stalls, night market and cinemas welcomed him. The air was filled with the mouth-watering smell of roasted meat and people were too engrossed in their own business to care about him.

He slipped through the crowd agilely, eyes scanning around in alert. His people who came with him to this transaction had all perished under Moshe's lackeys so he only had to hang on until reinforcements arrived.

Zion refused to die like this, especially not under that smiley fucker's hands!

His eyes sought the surroundings, alert and sharp. He knew he was quickly losing too much blood. He had to hide somewhere — anywhere. The entertainment district was one open area but there were also a few places — dark, humid alleys — where he could hide; but only on short term. He had an injury to tend to and he doubted that anyone would want to shelter a man whose body was soaked in blood.

One thing for sure… he had to go away from here as far as he could!

Zion staggered on his feet and for some reason, his eyes were drawn to a man standing before a taxi. He was tall with messy dark hair, wearing a ridiculous shirt two sizes smaller than his body like an idiot. A cold glint flashed through Zion's eyes as he stumbled toward the man. Maybe he could use this man as a human shield when the situation called for it.

Zion made sure to lower his head as he ambled his way through. When he bumped into people, he would slur out a vague apology, looking just like another drunk salaryman. Without any prompting, people started to avoid him, unwilling to get involved should anything untoward happen. Zion made sure that his pocket knife was hidden inside his jacket and when he was five steps away, he lurched forward as if tripped onto his own feet, conveniently draping himself over the man's back whilst pressing the knife to his back.

Unfortunately, Zion was mindful only to use his upper body so as to not aggravate his wounds. Otherwise he would have noticed that this man, whom he had taken as a pushover idiot, had a gun in his back pocket.

"Don't move." He hissed into the man's ears. "Get into the taxi and don't make any sound either."

Lu Yizhou: "..."

Through a series of strange combinations, the universe had ended up sending the protagonist straight to his arms. He had no idea whether to laugh or cry. The taxi driver had just dropped him here and said that he couldn't move forward any longer because of the road construction — which Lu Yizhou knew was merely an excuse for Cobalt Fang Clan to hide whatever shady dealings they were doing.

He was just handing over the fee when 666 suddenly choked on its words.

[666: H—Host, the male protagonist Zion is coming your way! He's close… so close… fifty meters… twenty meters…]

Lu Yizhou startled and was ready to turn when a heavy weight dropped onto his shoulders, nearly making his vision go dark due to the sudden pressure on his chest. He grabbed onto the hood of the taxi in time with the threat said to his ears.

Lu Yizhou couldn't help it. He laughed, slow and languid. Of course Zion who was plastered to him could detect the minute shake of his shoulders. As he expected, this man was truly an idiot. Sadly Zion had no time to play around.

"What are you laughing at?" His face darkened into a scowl and he pressed the knife deeper. "Do you think what I have here is fake? Huh?"

It was actually poking Lu Yizhou right on the bruise on his back now, which was annoying because he didn't spend that many points just to be taken hostage by the protagonist. Lu Yizhou discreetly rolled his eyes.

The taxi driver popped his head out through the window. "Hey, do you still need something?"

"Yes." "No." They said in unison, confusing the driver further.

Zion grinded his teeth and repeated once again. "Yes. We need another lift, Mister." Then he shoved — really shoved Lu Yizhou harshly against the taxi door that wasn't even opened yet as if he was some helpless lad. The force nearly broke his ribs all over again and Lu Yizhou swallowed the blood that rose to his throat.

Lu Yizhou's patience — which was infinitesimal to begin with — snapped. In one rough movement, he flipped their position so Zion was the one pressed against the taxi, the hand holding the knife twisted behind his back whilst Lu Yizhou grabbed onto his neck with the other. Caught off guard, Zion let out a grunt of pain. Lu Yizhou tightened his hold until the knife fell from Zion's grasp and bounced somewhere on the asphalt road.

"My mood is not good today." Lu Yizhou chuckled darkly. "So I'd advise you not to provoke me."

"Let go." Zion growled. "You have no idea who I am."

Lu Yizhou almost burst out laughing and he only held it in because laughing hurt, and he had had enough hurt for today. The lines around his mouth were tight and chill permeated his gaze. A resounding, terrifying crack was heard as he broke Zion's arm, earning him a muffled pained howl.

The taxi driver was startled by this sudden turn of events. He opened his mouth, presumably to shout for help, but one gaze from Lu Yizhou was enough to shut him up. Like a turtle, he ducked his head back into the safety of his taxi and rolled his window up.

Lu Yizhou saw him secretly reaching for his phone with trembling hands. The time was running out. He had to solve this mess before the police arrived.

"Shut up." Lu Yizhou leaned in to whisper into Zion's ear just like the man did earlier. "Don't think that I won't kill you right here and now."

He couldn't get his gun out in public, otherwise he would have dealt an even greater damage on Zion, so long as he didn't die everything would be fine. There hadn't been an ounce of mercy in Lu Yizhou's heart ever since he read about this man who could bomb an entire city, killing thousands of people, just because of one fucking person.

Told from the protagonist's perspective, he might be taken as overbearing and romantic. But for Lu Yizhou, he was just a sick bastard.

Well, Lu Yizhou would have done it too if his lover's safety was threatened — fun fact, he had literally butchered hundreds of cultivators to keep Lan'er safe in the fourth world — but still… he could only go on rampage knowing that this was only a simulator. In the real world…

…Alright, he admitted he was also a sick bastard. Actually, he and Zion were too similar in their madness and protectiveness over their lover that it irked him beyond reason. Lu Yizhou was disgusted to think that he was on the same level with his scumbag.

Zion panted, blood seeping through his shirt. "Fuck you…" He hissed, eyes rising up a storm. "If not because of my injuries, I would have killed you long ago. I say… let me go!" Zion gave one last burst of struggle, the heel of his shoes landed right on Lu Yizhou's shin and his elbows on Lu Yizhou's side.

Lu Yizhou's stance faltered because — goddamnit! — Zion's elbow was as hard as a steel beam and having it connected to his side was akin to being stabbed directly by a knife. Lu Yizhou's feet accidentally stepped on the curb and Zion took the opportunity to shake him off.

Lu Yizhou lost his balance and in a desperate effort to maintain a footing, he reached out to grab onto the lamp post, straining his torso as a result. He sucked in cold air as the newly sutured wound near his stomach tore open.

Zion stared at him with freezing cold eyes filled with the promise of vengeance to come as he clutched his broken arm. "I will remember you…!"

"He's there!" Moshe's men had finally caught up to him and Zion couldn't stay there any longer. He muttered one last curse before dashing into a narrow alley. Now that they had seen him, Zion could no longer ride in the taxi or else he would be giving himself away for free!

"There!" Lu Yizhou propped himself upright and pointed to the direction where Zion had disappeared to. Blood filled his mouth and everytime he inhaled, sharp pain punched him right on the gut like a bitch. Still, he felt his lips curling into a smirk. There was no way Zion could get to Cedric with his current condition. "He went that way. Hurry and get him!"

Moshe's people were flabbergasted. Who was this man to order them around like the most natural thing to do? Nevertheless, they had caught Zion's shadows right where this man was pointing at. No time left to waste, they only muttered thanks in response before giving chase.

[666: H—Host, Host, this is bad! Moshe has realized that you disappeared from the mansion!!!]

Lu Yizhou's smile froze. [How?]

[666: He—He called back during his ride home and realized that the guards had lost sight of you! Now… oh no! He's currently heading this way! Host, look at your right ankle!]

With the pain wrecking his entire body, Lu Yizhou hadn't bothered to check his injuries one by one since he woke up. He followed 666's words, looked down and a curse slipped out his lips when he found a neat incision on the flesh near his calf where faint blinking lights could be seen.

Moshe, this psycho! Since when had he planted a tracker in Lu Yizhou's body?!
