7.28 Can't Hold A Candle
Since that day, a new gate seemed to have been opened for both of them. Moshe was addicted, he couldn't get enough of playing with his pet. It was like he was relieving his firsts all over again again. Aiden was enthralling, captivating, divine… A piece of artwork Moshe would like to worship every single day. 2
He held no fear nor hesitation that Aiden wouldn't accept what he had given him. Somehow, deep inside him Moshe knew that Aiden could take them all, that his pet was also feeling the thrill and pleasure like he did — no, even more than that. It was like every piece of him was carved just to cater to Moshe's wishes.
He was more than perfect.
Moshe thought that the novelty would slowly wear off if he messed with Aiden again and again. And oh how wrong he was. The boredom Moshe had been anticipating didn't come. Instead, every sound Aiden made, every twitch of his brows, every shift of his body, Moshe found himself cataloguing every single one of them and still wanting more.
And just like that, two months passed by.
"Boss…" Kaede shuffled on his feet hesitantly. It was rare to see him hemming and hawing. Moshe shot him an impatient look, causing Kaede to straighten up and blurt out without thinking, "Don't you think that you're too invested in your… your new toy?"
"Aiden is not a 'toy'," Moshe corrected with a dark face. "Don't compare him to those cheap things. He's my pet. What's wrong with being invested with my pet?"
"But Boss…" There were so many wrong things Kaede wished he had the courage to address. First and foremost, Kaede would usually find Moshe working in his study even before dawn fully broke. But now, the guards had to make a roster among themselves so that someone would risk their life to knock on Moshe's private room at 8 am, otherwise who knew when he would show up?!
Second, he was often distracted when checking over important documents. Once Kaede was silly enough to ask what was in his mind and Moshe absentmindedly asked him, "Do you think my pet will be bored if I leave him alone at home?" What kind of question was that! Kaede was so bamboozled that he didn't want to say a peep for the rest of the day. Exactly who was this man and what had he done to his boss?! Kaede had known Moshe for more than a decade. 'Moshe' and 'distracted' were two words that should have never been put together!
Third, he found out that Moshe almost lived in the private room if he wasn't working! He even had a fixed time to return home. If work dragged on longer, Moshe wouldn't hesitate to drop everything and leave so he wouldn't have to make his pet wait!
This… This was getting more and more out of line!
"But what?" Moshe asked carelessly as he signed his name on paper.
Kaede took a deep breath. "Boss, forgive me for my bluntness but in my opinion, you're too obsessed with him. You haven't even called any of your toys over these past two months. Do you think it's normal?"
Moshe's hand that was holding the pen paused. It wasn't normal, he knew. Ever since the first time he saw those silver eyes, nothing had been normal for Moshe. But what could he do? Once he had his hands on the rarest exotic drug, once he took a deep inhale of it, he had already become manic with want. The others were merely cheap imitations that repulsed him to no end.
He also knew that the best thing to do was to distance himself once in a while so he wouldn't get dependent but no… Moshe had tried it and the result didn't go as expected. It backfired instead and Moshe experienced such a strong withdrawal enough to make him want to destroy everything that stood on his way to his pet.
Kaede was right. He was obsessed and he could do nothing about it.
Maybe he would gradually develop an immunity toward this potent drug called Aiden, Moshe thought fleetingly. But one thing for certain was, he couldn't see it happen in the near future.
"So what?" Moshe replied with a flat tone. "Even if I am obsessed, I will take responsibility for it."
I am scared that he will become your weakness, was what Kaede refrained from saying. He feared the day that Moshe's enemy would find out about his pet and took advantage of it. When that time came, Moshe who was renowned for being cold-hearted and invincible, would be no different than any other ordinary person.
But one look at Moshe's face knew that this discussion brooked no argument. Case closed. Once Moshe set his mind on something, you wouldn't be able to sway him even if the sky collapsed.
Kaede heaved out a long-suffering sigh. Switching the topic, he fished out an extravagant invitation that was lined with gold from his suit pocket and placed it beside Moshe. "Boss, the Wind Group's annual charity auction is coming in two weeks. This is the list of items that will be displayed. Shall I make the usual preparations?"
"It's already that time of the year? Confirm my attendance then."
Wind Group was originally made up of a group of foreign investors trying to breach out of their home country. Their reputation slowly grew over the years and now they had become a powerhouse that even the government had to act courteously.
One of the goals Moshe's father couldn't achieve in his life was to wash The Void completely out of the stains that had stuck to them for decades and start over with a clean reputation.
This goal was then passed on to Moshe along with his legacy and thus, Moshe had been trying to make it happen ever since. Except that a certain Ice Madman had made it his lifelong wish to always get in Moshe's way, hence further worsening the dispute between them.
Moshe had set his eyes on the Wind Group for the last three years. If he could just get Wind Group's support, he might be able to accelerate the process of his goal. Attending the auction was one of the ways for Moshe to get close to Mr. Agenor, the CEO of Wind Group.
Without Zion getting in his way, Moshe had the feeling that he would be able to make it this time. The corner of his lips curled up. "One more thing, tell them I will be bringing a plus one."
Kaede almost choked on his breath. "W—Who?" His mind instantly kicked up a gear to replay the memory of the past year to guess who would be succeeding in snatching Moshe, this forever single bachelor. Despite his adventurous carnal life, he had never brought anyone to such a formal event. The only person that was worthy enough to be mentioned was—
Moshe confirmed his doubt in the next second. "I will be bringing Aiden along. Tell the driver to fetch him. I will be meeting him at the usual tailor shop after this."
"Boss, you…" Kaede fumbled for words. Even after half a day he couldn't find an appropriate response. The only thing revolved around his mind was who, when, how, why. In the end he could only ask weakly, "Are you sure?"
Moshe gave him a look which made him feel like an intellectually disabled child. However before he could proceed to insult Kaede with sarcastic words and deathly sweet smiles, an alarm rang around the office. Moshe instantly perked up and closed the document, energized. The time to get off work finally arrived. Humming a random tune, he proceeded to arrange his messy desk and grabbed his coat, ready to go home to play with his pet.
"Ah one more thing," he said to the exasperated Kaede. "Sever all of my contracts with the toys. I don't need them anymore." Every single one of them couldn't hold a candle to the tip of Aiden's hair, Moshe mused. He had no need for inferior goods when he had a superb quality pet keeping his hands and mind busy all day.
After leaving that one sentence, Moshe sauntered out of his office, leaving a gaping Kaede behind.
