7.32 You'd Better Hurry Up
The entertainment news were going to explode tonight. First, Mr. Morelli, who had never brought a companion before, was bringing a handsome man and was caught acting quite intimately with the aforementioned man on a few occasions, with more than twenty people as the eye witnesses!. Second, Mr. Zion Tenley, who used to bring popular female supermodels, had switched to men instead. Not only one, but two! Goodness, the media was eagerly speculating the relationship between the three of them, one was bolder and wilder than the other.1
Exactly what was wrong with tonight? The two powerful lords were acting quite unexpectedly! Could this be another form of their rivalry?
The news of Zion's disappearance had only spread in the underworld and hadn't made it to public news yet. Thus only the mafioso like Moshe or those who had connections with the underworld realized the predicament of the situation. The rumoured missing leader of Cobalt Fang Clan, Zion 'Ice Madman' Tenley, had appeared at Wind Group's Charity Auction without anyone noticing! What might be his goal?
Seemingly unaware of the attention he got, Zion walked in with large, steady steps. His gaze swept around unobtrusively before landing on Lu Yizhou. In an instant, they seemed to burn, hot and insistent. Oh, Lu Yizhou thought, this was quite interesting. He met Zion's eyes with a raise of his brows, half inquiring and half mocking.
Veins popped up on Zion's neck and his face twisted in barely restrained anger… then Lu Yizhou's vision suddenly turned black, covered by Moshe's palm. The man leaned in, hissing like a cat whose favorite toy was taken away. "What are you looking at him for?!"
Alright, the spoilt leopard was sulking again due to the lack of attention. Lu Yizhou pulled Moshe's hand down to hold it, giving the jealous man a soft smile reserved especially for him. "My bad. I will only look at you from now on."
"You'd better!" Moshe seethed but overall, his bristled fur was already smoothened by Lu Yizhou's cajoling words. He leaned back on the couch and crossed his arms over his chest. Inwardly he was cursing.
Damn that cobalt snake, why would he appear at a time like this?! And by his side, wasn't it the one who used to be Moshe's toy? What was his name again? More importantly, why did he look at Moshe's pet with a gaze like that?! It truly made one's skin crawl. Disgusting! Moshe wished he could gouge those eyes out and burn them to ashes.
Moshe could almost smell conspiracy across the room. He knew Zion's temperament. With the stunt Lu Yizhou had pulled, there was no way Zion would let him off just like that. Not to mention that fucking useless toy by his side… he had seen Lu Yizhou in Moshe's mansion last time, hadn't he? Slowly, the threads were coming together in Moshe's mind.
Two months. That was already enough for Zion to make a complete recovery. Also… to take revenge on those who had slight him.
Moshe's face turned somber. "Do not be alone with that snakey bastard, do you hear me? Actually, don't leave my side at all."
Lu Yizhou hummed vaguely. Seeing Zion with Cedric and Regius, Lu Yizhou suddenly had an idea on how to deal with them at the same time. Unfortunately it meant he couldn't keep his words not to leave Moshe's side…
The auctioneer took his place on the stage and the event officially started. Moshe had set his eyes upon a raw piece of unpolished diamond. Its shine and color reminded him of Lu Yizhou's eyes and he planned to make him another accessory with that.
And of course Zion had to get in his way, shamelessly bidding only one million higher than Moshe to provoke him. In a fit of anger, Moshe shot the price to five times the original, eliciting murmurs of awe across the room. He let out a cold snort when Zion placed his paddle down. Loser.
…It was truly abnormal that Zion would give up just like that. The more Moshe thought about it, the more certain he was that Zion was definitely up to something.
In spite of the weird atmosphere in the hall, the first half of the auction went smoothly without a hitch. When a short break was announced, it was Zion's turn to be surrounded by busybodies. Of course, his two partners were unaccustomed to such a thing and were quickly overwhelmed. Moshe would very much like to use the opportunity to send another jab to Zion — when could he boast about his superior pet if not now — when his attention was drawn somewhere else.
His target, Mr. Agenor, finally showed himself.
Apparently Lu Yizhou noticed it too because he held Moshe's elbow lightly and guided him to where Mr. Agenor was. Not many had noticed the old man as they were more preoccupied with tearing their vicious claws into Cedric and Regius, making it easier for Moshe to strike a conversation.
Lu Yizhou stood by his side demurely, only answering when the situation called for it. Yet every single time, he managed to humor Mr. Agenor and made the old man nod repeatedly to what he said. Once again, Moshe fell witness to how Lu Yizhou's charm worked. Alas in their current situation, Moshe could do nothing but spare him a few heated glances once in a while, wishing that he could fly back to his mansion to put the collar back to his pet's neck. Such a good pet could only be brought out once in a while. Too many ravenous eyes had landed on him, Moshe was truly at his wits' end.
"Ah, Mr. Morelli, what a great partner you have found there." Mr. Agenor said as he wiped the dampness on the corner of his eyes, almost laughing himself silly at Lu Yizhou's dry humor. Dad jokes, if one might say. "You are a very lucky man."
"Mn." Moshe smiled and leaned into Lu Yizhou's space. "Very lucky indeed."
They started to talk about business then and Moshe was feeling great. Very great actually. He had a hunch that he would be one step closer to his goal after this. He was listening to Mr. Agenor's opinion when Lu Yizhou suddenly whispered into his ear. "I will be going to the bathroom for a while, okay?"
Moshe furrowed his brows. He subconsciously wanted to accompany Lu Yizhou there but then the man said, "It's okay. I won't be long. You're doing a fantastic job. Soon, you will be able to fulfill your wish." Lu Yizhou dropped a kiss on his temple and turned away.
His words were too aligned with Moshe's own thoughts, giving him a new boost of energy and courage. He tackled the man in front of him with enthusiasm and actually managed to set a private meeting with Mr. Agenor next week!
Everything was going so well for him that it was too late by the time he noticed… he had never told his pet about that particular wish of his. It was a private thing only Moshe and his father knew, not even Kaede who had been by his side for decades. So how did Lu Yizhou know?
And one more thing, Zion had also disappeared from the hall.
.
.
What took him so long?
After his successful endeavor, Moshe belatedly realized that his pet still hadn't come back. An ominous premonition surged through his chest, making his heart skip a beat. He swallowed the bitter aftertaste of champagne on his tongue and swept his gaze around, realizing that he couldn't find Zion either!
Damn it! Moshe gritted his teeth. He had been careless!
He hastened his pace and all of a sudden, someone stood in his way. "Get lost." Moshe snarled, unable to keep up his courteous look anymore.
Regius was startled but then when he looked at Moshe's almost panicked look, a manic sense of satisfaction bloomed inside his chest. It was like being cocooned under a thick blanket in the middle of the winter with a glass of hot chocolate in his hands. Sweet, warm and cozy all over. Ah, revenge was truly a dish best served cold.
"Are you looking for your man, Boss?" Regius couldn't hold back the wide smile on his face. "You'd better hurry up and find him now or else… everything will be too late~"
