6.34 The God Of Plague
Lu Yizhou was stunned.2
The second villain… Another piece of his lover in this world, possibly the one who held the memories.
666 had received the signal of his whereabouts on the very first day they arrived but apparently, he was on the other side of the world and the location he emitted was still, unmoving. The system had relayed his confusion to Lu Yizhou last time. What kind of person was he to stay in the same position for a long period of time? There were only two possibilities: either he chose not to move or he was unable to. Lu Yizhou had suspected that his lover's identity would probably be inhuman. He could be a slumbering God, a vengeful spirit, or even a mythical beast.
Because 666's radar didn't detect any danger around him, not to mention he wasn't originally supposed to be in the plot, Lu Yizhou had put the matter to the back of his mind and focused on saving Jillian first.
And now that the mysterious plague was spreading around the country and his lover was coincidentally on the move as well, could the two events be a coincidence?
[666: *gasp* Host, don't you think the second villain might be… the God of Plague? Think about it! He suddenly shows signs of activity at the same time with the disease breaking out. There's no other possibility than this! See, he's currently moving at approximately 800 kilometers per hour. That's no speed an ordinary human can achieve!]
800 kilometers per hour. Lu Yizhou mused, that's almost as fast as an airplane. If his lover was indeed on the other side of the world, then Lu Yizhou only had twelve hours at most until he arrived here. The most important question was, he had been immobile all this time so what had compelled him to move?
"...the number of deaths has reached almost 30 people, Young Master." Bassil said solemnly. "The sick have been quarantined and their numbers keep increasing as we speak. It's confirmed. This is definitely not an ordinary disease. Even the most talented doctor can't pinpoint the source of the problem."
Jillian had a somber look on his face. "Has His Majesty said anything?"
"His Majesty has sent a decree to lock down the village where the disease originated from. However, a small riot has broken out because of this. Quite a lot of uninfected people are trapped there as the soldiers forbid them from leaving the village. The disease has only infected that particular area so I might say that this is the most effective way. Even if those villagers haven't shown the symptoms, His Majesty doesn't want to risk any more exposure."
"So," Jillian scowled. "Are you saying that it's better if we leave them there until they catch the disease and die?"
Bassil hastily bowed to appease his Young Master's anger. "Of course, this servant doesn't mean anything by that. The sooner we can find the cure, the quicker everyone can be released."
The tense atmosphere stretched for a few more seconds before Jillian finally heaved out a long sigh and leaned into the chair, massaging his temple. "Alright, thank you for the report, Bassil. You may leave."
"It's my pleasure to help you in any way I can, Young Master." When the head servant was halfway out of the door, he suddenly turned. "Please don't overexert yourself, Young Master. I know you hate it when I talk about status, but please remember that you're a Duke as well as the head of this family. If something happens to you…" Unable to continue the sentence any longer, Bassil merely let out a heavy sigh and shook his head. "I will be taking my leave."
"Such a worrywart." Jillian muttered after Bassil closed the door behind him. "Well, he knows me very well. At first, I was planning to go down to the village myself to investigate the matter. But now that Bassil is getting all sentimental, how can I proceed with that?"
"Listen to him, Jillian." Lu Yizhou materialized beside him and said seriously. "It's dangerous out there." Stay here where I can see you, was what Lu Yizhou couldn't bring himself to say.
He still had no idea what would happen when the two villains met and Lu Yizhou was preparing himself for the worst case scenario. In case his lover was the one who had spread the plague… what should he do? Lu Yizhou had no problem with assisting his lover if he wished to bring destruction upon the country but this was the country Jillian had protected at the expense of his own life. If he wanted to help Jillian, then he had to stop the plague.
But then, what about the second villain? Saving one meant that he would condemn the other.
When the time came, would Lu Yizhou be forced to make a choice?
Jillian raised a brow and propped his cheek on his palm, sharp eyes accessing Lu Yizhou thoroughly. "It's unusual for you to be so serious, Regius. What's the matter? Do you know something about the disease?"
"No." Lu Yizhou said, frustrated. "I am as clueless as you are, Jillian. Trust me, there's nothing I want more than to know the truth." Wait a moment, if there was someone he could ask for help and might know the real situation more than him, then that would be Cyrus and Luan! He turned to Jillian with renewed vigor. "Can you do me a favor and summon Cyrus and Luan here?"
"Sir Cyrus and Sir Luan? Sure…" Jillian complied, albeit a little wary and confused. "Does it have anything to do with them?"
Just in time, a resounding knock on the door interrupted their conversation. A servant called out. "Duke, Sir Cyrus and Sir Luan are asking for an audience with you. They said it's quite an urgent matter."
Lu Yizhou and Jillian looked at each other and saw the same surprise in the other's eyes. This perfect timing couldn't be a coincidence, right? "Bring them here." Jillian demanded. A few minutes later, the door swung open and the two mythical beasts stood there. They looked a little worse for wear with their haggard complexion, which was very alarming considering the two's real identity.
"Good day, Duke Lacrosa, God of Darkness." Cyrus said and Luan bowed along.
"Did something happen?" Jillian inquired urgently.
"No, nothing of the sort. Don't worry." It was quite hard to believe when Cyrus was looking as if he could faint on his feet right at any moment. Luan's face was darker than usual, his lips pressed tight and if Lu Yizhou didn't see wrongly, he had one around the ivory dragon's waist to support him. Cyrus waved casually around them, grimacing. "It's just the air… Goodness, it's so foul. It's been too long since we have met something like this so it makes us a little sick."
Lu Yizhou asked, "Is that because of the disease?"
Cyrus considered him for a while. "...You're right."
"Do you know anything about that?"
Cyrus glanced at Luan with more hesitation on his face. Lu Yizhou stared at them with his eyes narrowed. Suddenly, he felt a little sick on his stomach and the reason certainly couldn't be attributed to the 'foul air'. "Your honor…" Cyrus chose his words carefully and seeing that, Lu Yizhou's heart abruptly sank. Cyrus had never needed to do that because they shared almost no secrets between them. Unless… "You should have sensed his presence yourself."
Lu Yizhou took in a shuddering breath. "Is it true? Is he the God of Plague?"
A quiet gasp was heard beside him but Lu Yizhou trained his gaze on Cyrus and saw the severity on his face. It was confirmed then. The second villain, his other lover in this world, was indeed the God of Plague and the root of the problem that had descended on the country. "But why?" Lu Yizhou couldn't help but ask. "All this time, he has been sleeping, hasn't he? So why is he suddenly on the move?"
Cyrus lifted one shoulder in a shrug. "What other reason is there? Of course, someone or even a group of people have been praying to him, enough to rouse him out of his slumber."
