6.54 Fierce Storm

Whilst the three of them were having the time of their lives, the world outside the barrier was currently in chaos. Storm wreaked havoc on the houses and summoned out a snow blizzard. The dark sky was raining shards of ice and people were huddling inside their abodes, frightened and anxious. "My Lord… please protect us from the bad weather… Please let it pass soon!" They prayed in diligence, unaware that the God they were pleading to was none other than the source of the chaos.1

The travelers who were stuck in the middle of the road weren't so lucky. A family of four sat in the wooden carriage, a father, mother and their two children. Their horses had long since run off somewhere else, terrified, leaving the four of them trapped in the middle of the raging storm. The father peeked outside through the curtain and shook his head solemnly. "It's no use. I can't even see anything out there. It's too dangerous for us to go out now."

"Mama, are we going to die?" The younger one asked with tears in his eyes.

"Sssh, it's okay." The mother hugged her little son to her chest. "God will protect us. Nothing will happen."

However, soon after she had said the sentence, their carriage shook violently. The children shrieked loudly, crying. "Mama, Papa! Help!"

The Father tried to hold onto the carriage door but a particular strong gust slammed it open, sending him flying across the seat. Their carriage toppled to the side and the four people inside tumbled out. The young children slipped from their mother's embrace and rolled a few meters away. Behind them, a fierce tornado was coming.

"Albert! Arthur!" The mother cried out as she struggled to get up, heart in her throat. Her children's weak cries sounded around her but because of the low visibility, she couldn't find them at all! "Dear, where are you?!"

"No…" She stared at the rolling ice storm a few distance away with despair in her eyes. "Please… help us, my Lord…"

In the next second, a strong gust of wind blew and she shielded her eyes by reflex. Maybe it was her ears playing a trick on her, but it seemed like she heard the sound of a majestic roar. For a split second, her feet left the ground before landing again on a solid surface. The howling wind calmed down around her.

"Mama!" She snapped her eyes open to see her children running toward her. Dropping to her knees, she opened her arms wide and hugged them tight to her, tears streaming down her face as she kissed their faces and scanned their bodies for any injuries. "Oh Heavens… are you two okay?!"

"Mama, there is a dragon!"

"Mn! Dragon!"

"It's very, very big with gleaming white scales!"

"It brought us here!"

The two of them gestured animatedly, eyes huge and cheeks flushed in excitement. Alas, she was too overwhelmed with relief to truly register what they were talking about.

"Oh, Papa is there! Papa!"

True to her son's words, she looked up to find her husband laying on the ground in front of her. Gasping, she rushed to his side and a sigh of relief escaped her lips when she found him safe and sound, only unconscious. But… she looked around in confusion. How could they get here? Shadowed over their heads was the eaves belonging to an empty warehouse. She craned her neck but was unable to see the overturned carriage anymore. Not only that, they seemed to have travelled quite far from where the mountain path was. How…?

She shook her head and bent down to sling her husband's arm over her shoulders. "Come on. We should go in first. Hopefully, there will be firewood inside."

Above them, a massive ivory dragon hid amongst the cloud, amber eyes watching as the small family entered the warehouse to take shelter. Only then did the creature turn to direct another roar toward the distance. "Luan!"

Cyrus always prided himself for being cool-headed and wise, but when faced with a situation like this, all he wanted was to shake the ground with his roar and tear the sky apart to vent his frustration. Who could have guessed that the God of Darkness' emotion could affect the weather so much? Goddamnit, he was only having sex but the world had almost been turned upside down because of it!

Another dragon — black this time, appeared in between the rain of lightning and nuzzled its snout against Cyrus to calm him down.

"How are they?" Cyrus asked.

Luan silently shook his head. Not yet.

White mists blew out of Cyrus' nose. "Those libidinous bastards…" He gritted his teeth. "If it isn't because all of this is needed for him to—akh!" His ears twitched, catching a faint desperate plea from people. "Wait here, I will return soon!" After saying that sentence, Cyrus all but zoomed in across the sky to get to those unfortunate humans out of any potential disaster.

He returned a few minutes later, grumbling. "Seriously, what takes them so long?"

Luan gave him a pointed look.

"What?" Cyrus' ivory draconian face reddened. "It—It's not like I have no idea what they are doing! You know clearly that we—" His sentence was broken off once again when a particularly powerful lightning struck, so intense that the whole world was blinded by the glare for a second. That's why Cyrus failed to realize that his swishing tail had gotten too close to it until everything was too late.

He wouldn't have any problem if it was the usual lightning — he was a legendary mythical beast, a heavenly creature, after all — but this… this bouts of lightning ought to be as strong as the God of Thunder's beloved whip, comprising the might of Heaven who was ready to welcome the birth of a new immortal. Cyrus' pupils dilated and he only had time to let out a faint 'shit' before the silver bolt hammered down on him.

"SCRAM!" The obsidian dragon's roar reverberated through the air, rivalling the ear-deafening symphony of the furious hurricane. He coiled his body around the smaller ivory dragon, eyes glaring defiantly toward the sky. Before the lightning could touch his body, it instantly fizzled out like flames doused in icy cold water, not even leaving anything behind.

Cyrus snapped his eyes open, horrified. "Luan, no…!"

One knew not to go against Heaven's will lest they would receive a severe backlash and Luan's act just now… he might as well be challenging the supreme authority! Cyrus caught him in time as Luan swayed and began to fall freely down the sky. With the size of Luan's body, he would definitely destroy half of the world if he landed like this! Cyrus gritted his teeth as he forcefully bore the momentum of Luan's fall with his own body. "Damn it, you're so heavy…!"

Midair, the two of them transformed into two wisps of light, diving through the sea of rolling clouds and crashed right into a vast expanse of land covered in thick snow, cooking up another mini storm.

Cyrus coughed as he propped himself up and supported Luan who was half sprawled on him, wheezing weakly. "You… stupid dragon! What are you thinking about?! Just a little injury is nothing to me, it will heal in no time at all! But you—" He choked on his words, unable to say anything more and opting to hit Luan on his shoulder, just a light slap without any heat on it. Tension rolling off his body in waves. "Idiot…"

Luan lifted his head with much difficulty and reached out to stroke Cyrus' cheek with a trembling hand. A faint smile was playing on the corner of his pale, chapped lips. No one would think much of it if they saw him but for Cyrus who had known him forever, he looked so proud of himself, it was downright smug.

Cyrus sent him a venomous glare. Without any warning, he yanked Luan closer by collar and crashed their lips together. Luan let out a faint gasp and as if the backlash he currently suffered through was nothing at all, he surged upward and pressed impossibly closer, deepening the kiss even more as he slid one hand to the back of Cyrus' head to hold him in place.

Above them, the darkness suddenly parted to allow a faint ray of light in. Dawn had broken, signifying a brand new day. The two dragons lifted their heads to see a flock of birds flying by, singing atop of one another happily. It was like the storm a few moments ago was merely a dream. The sun peeked through the line of the horizon, scattering bursts of golden hues across the sky that were both majestic and awe-inspiring.

Cyrus' eyes widened as he took in the breathtaking scenery. A delightful chirp escaped his lips. "Luan, it seems like they are done. Can you stand up?" He slid himself out from under Luan's beefy body with a groan, patted his clothes and offered a hand to the other. "Come, we should go to welcome the new demigod."
