6.57 Leave Him To Me

Cyrus pursed his lips. "Hmm, you're not wrong there. Indeed, we are looking a bit suspicious…"1

Lu Yizhou raised a brow, as if saying, "So what are you going to say about that?"

Cyrus glanced at Luan once again, hesitating. He only hardened his eyes when Luan gave him a quiet nod. Turning to Lu Yizhou, Cyrus took a deep breath and bowed, Luan following along by his side. "First thing first, I deeply apologize if my actions have given you some room for doubts. Please believe me when I say that Luan and I have no bad intentions toward all of you, especially him."

"I believe you," Lu Yizhou said quietly. If he didn't, Cyrus and Luan wouldn't be standing in front of him right now. Mythical beasts or not, Lu Yizhou had thousands of tricks up his sleeves on how to kill someone. It's only a matter of how long it would take.

Cyrus shivered and his face paled abruptly.

Oh? So Lu Yizhou's guess was right. The ivory dragon could indeed pick up on his thoughts. Or was it his carefully hidden murderous intent? It wasn't that hard to guess. Luan's power lay on his voice so Cyrus must be something else. Judging from how he wore sleeves all day long and his aversion of touch toward others, Lu Yizhou came to the conclusion that his power lay on his touch. Not to mention that Lu Yizhou had seen the claws under his sleeves before.

He must be able to see memories or sense emotions. Or maybe both, depending on how close he was with the other.

Cyrus silently scooted closer to Luan and snuggled to his side which the latter instantly responded by holding him tight. "It—It's good that you believe us so why…"

"Even if I trust you not to harm him, I can't fathom why you so desperately try to hide your identity from me. I must ensure that you won't become a threat to us in the future and for that reason, I need to know who you two are." Lu Yizhou stated his intention blatantly. "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" He asked when Cyrus stared at him wide-eyed, seemingly not expecting him to say something like that.

"No, it's just…" Cyrus chuckled lightly and the strange thing was, he seemed to relax with Lu Yizhou's frank honesty. "... it's reassuring to know that he has someone like you by his side."

Lu Yizhou narrowed his eyes at that. "Who are you exactly?"

"We…" Cyrus let out a defeated sigh. "Will it be hard to believe that we have no idea about it either? We are not certain if we're humans like you or… we are only made up of a chunk of codes. When we came to consciousness, we were already here and there was only one thing that was clear in our mind."

Lu Yizhou blinked as realization dawned on him. "You have to help him—"

"—save him and wake him up." Cyrus finished the sentence. Then he sagged against Luan's chest as if the confession had seeped him out of strength. "The reason why we can detect something is off with the system is also because of this inexplicable mission."

In one glance, their mission seemed to be similar to Lu Yizhou. Save the villain from their demise. But Lu Yizhou's mission was designated to help himself whereas Cyrus and Luan's were focused on saving… saving the villain from the unknown threat they were currently facing — the bug.

His enemy's enemy was his friend. Lu Yizhou nodded. For now, he would accept this vague explanation. "I will tell my system to see if there's something about you two in the main server."

Cyrus and Luan's eyes instantly widened comically. Cyrus jerked forward as if wanting to shake Lu Yizhou's shoulders before he was reminded of his own ability — or inability — whereas Luan… this was the first time Lu Yizhou had seen a vivid emotion reflected in his eyes. Excitement, hope and fear. At least, they didn't seem like they were acting, otherwise Lu Yizhou would have commended their oscar award level skill.

"You will do that?!" Cyrus covered his mouth, blinking rapidly. "T—Thank you, thank you so much! We will appreciate it very much if you are willing to help us. For years, you are the only one who has accomplished such a feat — no, I'm sure no one will be able to achieve what you do, ever! Goodness, you're so awesome!"

Lu Yizhou merely smiled at that. When you had lived your whole life walking on thin ice, taking a high-risk decision became as easy as breathing. It wasn't like Lu Yizhou was awesome, he was just living in desperation with the conviction that tomorrow would never co—

His mind abruptly grinded to a halt and the smile froze on his face.

…What?

What was that? What had just flashed through his mind? He, Lu Yizhou, was living? In desperation? He was… desperate?

"Your honor?" Cyrus' voice jerked him out of his thoughts. He was peering into Lu Yizhou's eyes in concern and recalling what the ivory dragon could do, Lu Yizhou subconsciously took a step back to put a distance between them. Fortunately, no one seemed to take notice of that. "Are you okay? You kind of zoned out a minute there."

"No, I…" Something was wrong. There was no way the old Lu Yizhou would have thought of something like that. 'Lu Yizhou' and 'desperate' were two entities that should never be put together in a sentence. Why not? A voice inside him argued and Lu Yizhou vehemently stomped it down. "I'm fine." He said, even though he felt like he had been shaken through his core.

Nothing's fine. He just wanted to go back to ten minutes ago so this conversation wouldn't exist. But it was too late. The idea had already been rooted in his mind and Lu Yizhou had no idea what to do with it.

"Back to the topic in hand." Lu Yizhou bit the inside of his cheek to regain his bearings. "Here is the main plan. You two will help me with my mission and in the meantime, I will be on the lookout for the bugs. First step, defeat Ernoul. We have to eliminate every single possibility that will push Jillian toward his demise. After that comes the plague. I will see if there's something I can do to solve that."

"Leave Ernoul to me."

A voice came behind him and Lu Yizhou turned to see Jillian and Izher approaching. Lu Yizhou silently let out a sigh of relief. The two of them didn't seem to have heard him talking about the bugs. It wasn't like Lu Yizhou wanted to hide it from his lovers, it's just that there was so much uncertainty that he had no idea what would happen if he were to involve them in it. For now, Lu Yizhou decided that he did not want to guess the result.

Lu Yizhou turned to the one who had spoken. "Are you sure, Jillian?"

"Yes." Jillian clenched his fists and his eyes seemed to flash bright gold for a split second. "Ernoul has decided to harm my country. It's my duty as a General to stop him. This time, once and for all."

Lu Yizhou caught Izher's eyes in midair and received a nod. Cyrus and Luan also didn't say anything so that was a yes. Lu Yizhou sighed. He had clearly been outnumbered, hadn't he?

"Alright." He said helplessly and Jillian's eyes lit up like stars. "I will hand Ernoul to you. Send him back to Hell, Jillian."

"Oh, I sure will!" Jillian cracked his knuckles, lips curling into an eager, bloodthirsty smile.
