6.60 Please Be Okay

Happy 300th chapter, everyone! Thank you as always for your immense support <30

Jillian grabbed his sword in both hands and narrowed his eyes sharply at the disgusting creatures in front of him. "Ernoul, if you had just stayed in Hell and received your punishment, you might have been able to reincarnate into a better life. I will give you one more chance, if you go back right now, everything can still be salvaged. Don't make yourself regret it."

"Me, regret?!" Ernoul threw his head back and guffawed. His four eyes turned crescent, the pupils within swirled round and round in different directions. Yikes, Jillian thought. "I have been regretting it since the day you cut off my General's head!"

"How dare you!" Jillian growled, furious. "You are the one who sacrificed your General so that you can escape safely. Do you think such an exceptional fighter will succumb in the battlefield that easily if not for you?!"

Even though they were enemies, Jillian had truly admired the Barbarians' deceased General. Back then, he had pleaded to Jillian not to give chase in exchange for his own head. To think that the master of such a loyal, righteous man was this greedy demon was enough to make Jillian's skin crawl.

"He died because he was weak!" Ernoul exclaimed without even an ounce of guilt. "It's the survival of the fittest. Only the strongest will remain and today, I will take your head with me!"

Jillian squared his shoulders and took on a fighting stance. "You're unredeemable," he seethed, fire burning in his veins. His sword thrummed along as if responding to his fury. "I, Jillian Lacrosa, will send you back to Hell. Mark my words, Ernoul."

"W—Wait…" Maia scrambled to tug on his cloak, almost pulling Jillian off-balance. "He… He's still my father. Please…" She pleaded with tears in her eyes.

"Miss Maia!" Bassil cried out in shock and tried to yank her hands away but holy — how was she so strong?! "How dare you—" If something happened to Young Master Jillian, he would stab this woman no matter what kind of status she held! Consequences be damned!

In front of them, the demon disappeared from the spot and zoomed in right in front of Jillian. Startled, Jillian wanted to dodge by reflex when he recalled there were people behind him. Gritting his teeth, Jillian blocked the demon's four deadly claws with his sword and sparks flew from the mere contact. The momentum almost knocked him askew and he staggered, blood running down his nose which he wiped away hastily. His chest throbbed in pain but fortunately, there were no broken bones. Goddamnit, how strong was this demon?!

To Jillian's surprise, the backlash was worse for Ernoul.

The demon flew back a few meters away, his feet buried into the thick snow as he went. He cried out as the flesh on his hand dissolved to show bones, black smoke emitted out of the open wound. "Y—You… what have you done?! It hurts! It hurts so much!"

Jillian's heart was thumping in adrenaline and he roughly yanked his cloak away from Maia's persistent hold. Call him cruel, but he honestly didn't give a fuck. "Look at him clearly." He stared into Maia's reddened eyes coldly. "Look at him and tell me that he's still your father."

Maia's mouth opened and closed without a sound and in the end, he was forcefully hauled away by Bassil. "Come on, Miss Maia. Please don't do anything stupid again! This humble one begs you!"

Jillian offered Bassil a grateful look before turning his attention back to Ernoul. In such a short span of time, Ernoul's flesh had already regenerated and his hand almost looked as good as new.

Jillian swept his gaze around the surroundings. This wouldn't do, there were too many people here. If he wasn't careful, Ernoul might take them hostage and judging from his character, Jillian wouldn't be surprised if Ernoul were to resort to such a cowardly move. He counted the time inwardly. Even though Bassil was working to move them to another place, it would still take time. And time was what he didn't have.

He clicked his tongue in irritation. Ernoul chose this location on purpose, didn't he?

Well, if that was the case, then Jillian only had to move the fight away with force. He had the upper hand for now because Ernoul was unaware of the most important point.

Jillian was no longer a human. He was a demigod.

Without any warning, Jillian pushed his feet off the ground and lunged forward so fast that his figure became a blur. Ernoul startled, clearly not expecting him to choose a face-to-face confrontation. The blade of his sword burst out into crimson flames as he drove it straight into Ernoul's body. The force carried them off the ground, up and up… until they were finally in midair.

Black blood spurted out of Ernoul's mouth and he stared at Jillian wide-eyed, flabbergasted. From such a close distance, his four unblinking eyes and slitted pupils became much more disgusting. Jillian exerted strength into his sword and the flame erupted stronger, burning Ernoul inside out.

The demon let out a high pitched shriek, a sound enough to break eardrums. "Stop it stop it stop it stop it! How?! How can you hurt me?!" His four arms flailed around wildly, trying to pull the sword out to no avail for he was instantly burned. Thus he could only resort to attacking Jillian with his claws. Cuts appeared on his body and Jillian did his best to defend his vital organs. Come on, come on, he chanted as the fire burst out even stronger and Ernoul let out another pained scream.

A chilling smile spread on Jillian's face and adding to the blood around his body and his glowing golden eyes, he looked like a madman. A bloodthirsty, desperate madman.

Ernoul's pupils dilated. "LET GO—!" He opened his mouth wide and particles of light gathered into it.

Jillian's eyes widened. Damn it, Ernoul was going to blast his head!

He tried to yank his sword out, but it was stuck inside Ernoul's body, not even budging a bit even when he put in his whole strength. Curses spilled forth his lips when he saw that Ernoul deliberately sacrificed one of his hands to keep the sword inside his body! Jillian didn't want to abandon his sword, not when it used to belong to his beloved. Not when his beloved had given it personally to him!

Ernoul gave him a smirk, as if guessing what was in his mind.

"You bastard!" Jillian gritted his teeth and held his sword as leverage to deliver a swift kick to Ernoul's side but lo and behold, the demon didn't even budge a bit! His whole body seemed to swell in size and muscle density and that was how Jillian knew that Ernoul was going to put his all in this one attack.

The sphere in Ernoul's mouth was getting bigger and bigger. He let out a series of cackles. "Even if I have to perish today, I will bring you down with me! DIE, LACROSA!!!"

Blinding light exploded in front of Jillian's eyes and he only had the time to brace himself and erected a haphazard barrier using his latent energy — this was the first time he could vividly feel the flow of energy within him; a desperate call for desperate measures — around his body so he would at least escape with his life intact.

The ground shook violently and people screamed when a particularly violent gust of wind blasted them a few steps backward. A resounding explosion could be heard from the sky, causing the clouds to swirl in a deadly vortex. The deep rumble continued on and on for a few long seconds and then, there was silence. A heavy, deafening silence.

Bassil stopped to stare up at the sky, horror reflected in his eyes. "No…" He whispered. "No, this can't be! Young Master!!!"

He wanted to rush forward only to be caught by the soldiers. "Let me go! I have to… I have to…" He kept struggling until his strength ran out and then his knees gave up beneath him. "Please…" He prayed with all he got. "Please be okay. Please don't let anything happen to him…"

Not only him, everyone in the vicinity was praying as Jillian was their only beacon of hope. They placed all of their wishes into murmurs, tears streaming down their cheeks as they stared at what could be called the aftermath of the chaos.
