7.76 Don't You Dare
3Moshe blinked a few times. What had he just heard? He dug his ears and said, "Repeat it again?"
It was the guard who had led Lu Yizhou to the basement cell. Swallowing, he closed his eyes and blurted out. "He's dead, Boss! Regius died less than five minutes after Aiden went out. I saw it clearly with my own eyes that his body suddenly convulsed, blood was oozing out of his mouth, nose, eyes and ears. Then before I can call the doctor in, he has breathed his last."
Moshe frowned. "Convulsion and internal bleeding?"
Lu Yizhou had changed his clothes in the training center before they left. Moshe clearly saw that he did not have any weapon in his possession. That man was so poor that he couldn't even afford a proper phone. Throughout the journey, he was sure that they didn't come across anything that could be used as a weapon either. Moreover, judging from the symptoms Regius showed, it looked more like a poisoning instead.
It's not that Moshe minded Regius' death. He had even forgotten about that man's existence in his basement cell. So when Lu Yizhou requested a meeting with him, Moshe had given his permission easily, thinking that Lu Yizhou would want to take his revenge personally.
But he knew Lu Yizhou's temperament. If he was going to kill Regius, then he would say it directly instead of asking for a 'meeting'. He was just that blunt and straightforward.
"Boss?" The man asked after finding Moshe lost in thoughts. "What should we do about the corpse? Should we dispose of it like usual?"
"Don't," Moshe said, surprising the other. Everytime something weird happened around Lu Yizhou, Moshe couldn't resist the urge to dig into the very bottom. "Hand it over to the medics. I want to know the exact cause of his death in detail. Do it as quickly as possible."
Moshe's men were very efficient. By the time Lu Yizhou finished his shower, the report had already arrived on top of Moshe's table. The cause of Regius' death had been very clear, but not the method that could achieve that.
"Thank you for letting me use the shower," Lu Yizhou said as he entered the office.
He was wearing Moshe's spare clothes that looked too tight on his shoulders. The hem of the pants clung awkwardly onto his ankle. His hair was still damp and rivulets of water trailed down his flushed skin, making him look so soft and dreamy. Not to mention the clothes that left little to imagination as it stuck to Lu Yizhou's body like a second skin, highlighting every alluring curve of his proportional body.
Moshe would have taken the opportunity to ogle and maybe kiss and bite a little if his mind hadn't been too unnerved by the report in his hand.
First, the bomb's timer that had bizarrely stopped ticking in Lu Yizhou's hands, followed by his fainting accident. Did they think Moshe was stupid enough to believe in lame reason like 'mild amnesia' and 'low blood sugar'? Second, Thirteen's evaluation of Lu Yizhou that had consolidified some of Moshe's doubt. Last but not least, the peculiar cause of Regius' death…
Moshe had had enough. It was already very nice of him to wait until this day. If Lu Yizhou were to delay once again, Moshe was really going to break his legs to teach him a lesson. "Explain," he demanded curtly.
"Ah." Lu Yizhou paused and carefully took in Moshe's expression. Whatever he found in Moshe's eyes must be enough for him to answer in a beat. "Of course, I will. I have promised after all."
Moshe threw the report down. Then he stood up from his chair and rounded the table to approach the man. "In that autopsy report, it is stated that Regius' head has caved in. They don't even need to cut open his skull to know that his brain is no longer there, or to be exact it has liquified for some reason. He also has multiple organ failures at the same time. There is no evidence of wounds in his body save from the old ones that have already existed before, nor could they find traces of poison."
Moshe arrived right in front of Lu Yizhou and scrutinized this man who was full of mystery. Moshe thought he had known Lu Yizhou better after their interaction these past two months but after today, he suddenly found out that he knew nothing at all. The idea pressed down heavily on his chest. He hated being kept in the dark.
Every member of The Void, no matter which position, would have to go through a string of background checks down to the last detail. Moshe even knew trivia information like their grandmother's hometown and whom their ex ended up marrying. Transparency was obligatory if one wanted to join his clan but still! No matter how cautious he had been, there were still a few traitors over the years who managed to hide amongst his men! Obviously they would be rooted out before they could deal any damage, and Ezra had been the worst of all.
Moshe's point was, even when he already knew their backgrounds, they could still pose as a traitor and come back to stab him behind his back. So what of Lu Yizhou?
Moshe didn't know his background, did not know who he really was, did not know his true purpose... But he still foolishly put his trust in this man — no, not only his trust. He had given his whole heart away. And if Lu Yizhou were to crush it… Moshe had no idea what would become of him in the end.
"One more thing," Moshe added in the frosty voice that was contrary to how tumultuous and chaotic his feelings were inside. "You have heard what Thirteen is capable of from Kaede earlier and I trust his skill. I have one more purpose in creating that fake bonding event. I want him to have a look at you." He kept a close eye on Lu Yizhou's expression. "Do you want to know what conclusion he has drawn?"
"He told me your skill is one that cannot possibly be achieved without pushing their body to its extreme. It's a fighting style he has never seen before but he was sure… that it was made to kill."
Lu Yizhou merely gave a blink as if he had expected it coming. His impassive face didn't even twitch! Moshe was getting frustrated now. Why was he so unfazed? Had nothing ever flustered the man outside of bedroom matters?
"You'd better think twice before you answer." The corner of Moshe's lips curled into a wintry, almost hostile smile. He didn't really want to do this but… he needed to know. So that he could be rest assured in keeping his heart with Lu Yizhou… Moshe needed to know everything. "Don't you dare to betray my trust, Lu Yizhou… because I am not sure if you will be able to bear the extent of my wrath."

A/N: We have gotten a glimpse to LYZ's past! Yes, he indeed used to be an assassin! Please don't blame Moshe for getting paranoid again. The man he *cough* deeply favors turns out to be one of mysterious background and is trained to kill. If you were a head of the mafia like him, what would you think?
