7.80 What Was That...?
Cruz started to move rigidly toward the metal tray and grabbed a scalpel, gripping it tightly in his hand. He then moved toward Zion's bed and stared down at him with an empty gaze. 1
"Good." The crimson glow on Lu Yizhou's eyes intensified, so did the smile on his face. "Now stab him. Make sure you do it nice and clean. You're a doctor so I don't need to tell you what to do, right?"
"Yes." Cruz held the scalpel above his head, the tip of the blade gleaming coldly.
[666: Oh my Admin God, oh my Admin God, this is so exciting! Is this allowed? Is this really allowed, Host? Why doesn't 666 know that such a cheat exists?!]
It turned out 666, this gremlin bastard, indeed had a crow's mouth. Even before the last echo of its words could disappear into thin air, the heartbeat monitor suddenly issued a series of irregular beeps and Zion's eyelids started to twitch!
"Stop!" Lu Yizhou barked out.
[666: AAAAAH 666 swears this has nothing to do with 666, Host! QAQ]
[Shut up!] Lu Yizhou closed his eyes and raked his fingers through his hair in order to regain his composure. When he opened them again, the crimson glow on his eyes had receded into nothing.
For fuck's sake, what were the odds that the protagonist would wake up a second right before his death? Did he have sixth sense or something?! Lu Yizhou could hear a horde of footsteps coming this way, no doubt from Zion's men who had been notified of the sudden change in the heartbeat monitor.
Lu Yizhou cursed up a storm and crossed the room in a few large strides to chop Cruz unconscious. He couldn't let anyone see him here! He eyed the scalpel that had slipped out of Cruz's hold with reluctance. The urge to pick the tool up and stab Zion with it was so strong that his entire body trembled from the willpower he exerted to hold himself back!
The chance to kill the protagonist was right in front of his eyes but he couldn't even take it. How frustrating!
Zion's eyelids twitched even more and his lashes started to flutter. He was going to wake up in seconds! Lu Yizhou hauled Cruz up across his shoulder like a sack of potato before covering them with the Invisibility Cloak. He spat out toward Zion in a chilly tone, pained that he had to miss such a golden opportunity. "Consider yourself lucky, bastard."
The last thing Lu Yizhou heard as he made his way out through a throng of people was the excited cries of Zion's men. "Boss, you're awake! Thank goodness!"
.
In the matter of seconds, Zion's bedside was swarmed with men who were elated by their Boss' awakening. Zion himself had sat up with a scowl on his face, his gait totally unlike a person who was still in a coma a few minutes ago.
With every bad news he heard, his complexion darkened even more, coloring the space with a suffocating air. The men's delight rapidly cooled into apprehension and fear. No one dared to breathe loudly as they waited for Zion's response.
"So, you're saying that," Zion massaged his temples, his voice scraping against his throat harshly. "I have been in a coma for a week and during that time, we have been blacklisted from the Wind Group's public event for the next three years, our company's stock is steadily going down, two of our warehouse has been attacked by the enemies and not only that, Hector is currently missing after executing an ambush on The Void without my approval?"
The men sucked in cold air. Goodness, why did it suddenly get so hard to breathe? "B–Boss! Hector said that this time he will not fail! He has received an intel from an insider. He swore he would come back with Moshe's head!"
If he was so sure, then where was he now?! Zion screwed his eyes shut and gnashed his teeth so hard that everyone could hear the crack. "Fucking… useless…" He gritted out, trembling due to the barely restrained fury. When he opened his eyes to see a large group of his men hanging around awkwardly rather than doing something to salvage the situation, anger shot up to his head and he snapped, "Get out! Get the fuck out of this place!"
His roar was so loud that before the last note faded away, his men had scampered away with wind beneath their feet.
Zion's chest was heaving roughly by the time everyone was gone. The rims of his eyes were tinged with crimson and he couldn't help wrenching the IV needle out of his wrist and kicking the stand away, causing it to crash to the opposite wall in a noisy clutter.
"Fucking useless! Why don't they just drop dead somewhere?!" He growled out in irritation.
They were just a bunch of dull-witted idiots who could only move if someone led them around by nose! When he compared them to Moshe's disciplined and competently trained subordinates, he got so angry that his teeth were going to fall out soon!
Don't get him started on their right hand man, comparing Hector and Kaede was only going to make him puke out blood! Zion had told Hector many, many times not to be impulsive, to learn his enemy's weakness before his own but still! Hector still dared to act without order! Zion had only been in a coma for a week and Hector had gotten himself into major trouble! Now he did not even know whether Hector was still alive or not!
Zion closed his eyes and carefully regulated his breath.
Pushing the ball of anger to the back of his mind, his mind drifted to the incident that landed him in a coma in the first place.
He, Zion Tenley, had drunk the drug by himself? Had he gone fucking insane?! Zion tried to recall the event of that day down to the last detail. He had been taunting Moshe's pet, trying to let him know his place and then… and then what? Everything had turned blank from thereon.
There were a few things that he couldn't fathom though...
First things first, how did he suddenly lose his mind? Had he been hypnotized or something? Zion had never known that someone could have such a terrifying skill. Second, let's say that he was indeed hypnotized, then why had he forced himself on Cedric, who should have been guarding the door, instead of Aiden himself?
Zion gritted his teeth. He had indeed planned for Moshe and everyone else to find them, but that was after he had gotten Aiden to inebriated that he could not even remember his own name! He wanted to see Moshe's enraged and humiliated expression at knowing that his beloved pet, whom he had brought to a high profile event for the first time, was desperately begging for Zion's cock like a man whore!
So how had it become him raping someone else? That was illogical no matter how he pondered about it!
Zion massaged his aching temple. The base of his skull was pounding, the pain insistently stabbing the back of his eyelids like needles. He reached for his phone on the nightstand, intending to call the medic but at that moment, images suddenly flashed in his mind. Striking, vivid images that he had not seen before.
Zion froze and closed his eyes, trying to chase after the fading vision. As his heartbeat slowly calmed down, the images started to become clearer. He knew those people. His men, Hector, Cedric and more importantly… Moshe, his long time nemesis.
He snapped his eyes open with a gasp when the vivid sensation of being burned to his death lingered on his skin. Jumping out of his bed with a jerk, he patted his own body by reflex to put out the fire, but then he was stunned when he found nothing but the soft fabric of clothes. No fire, and most importantly, no Moshe's manic laugh or Cedric's anguished cries.
Without him realizing, his whole body had been soaked in perspiration. He was breathing harshly, eyes wide in bewilderment. "What was that…?" It was so realistic — the voices, the pain, the unfamiliar despair, sadness and rage that was flooding his chest — almost as if… he was experiencing it on his own.
Between one second and the next, he had scrambled for his phone, his voice contained urgency that was seldom heard before. "Summon all of the medical personnel here, and most importantly, Cruz. NOW!"
