7.81 Entertain My Guest
It started raining by the time Lu Yizhou found the car that had been waiting for him a few kilometres away from Cobalt Fang's basecamp. Moshe indeed said that he would send a car to fetch him but he did not say that he would be coming in person. Lu Yizhou paused in surprise when he saw Moshe sitting inside the car. However before he could say anything, Moshe had spoken first, "Hand the man over to Kaede and get inside the car."2
Right on cue, Kaede appeared beside him to take Cruz's unconscious body. "Oof! He's so heavy. So he is the one, huh?" Kaede grinned sharply and directed a salute toward Moshe. "You can count on me, Boss. I will take good care of him along the journey."
Lu Yizhou furrowed his brow. Kaede and Moshe had come in separate cars so it meant that Lu Yizhou would lose sight of the bug along the journey. Honestly, he wasn't rest assured. This was the bug they were talking about after all. What if he gained consciousness halfway and escaped?
The rain was getting heavier by each second. Large droplets of water trailed down Lu Yizhou's body and seeped into his clothes, soaking him wet in no time at all. With one hand resting on the hood of the car, he leaned down to speak to Moshe. "I will go with them—"
"Get. In." Moshe emphasized each word heavily. His golden eyes seemed to glow amidst the dark interior of the car, making him look imposing and kinda terrifying. "Or do you need me to drag you inside?"
Lu Yizhou paused again as he scrutinized Moshe carefully. He looked… furious. Hadn't they talked about this before? Moshe had agreed on letting him come here, so what had gone wrong? Nonetheless, unwilling to stir the hornet's nest, Lu Yizhou obediently slid into the car. The driver instantly closed the door behind him. Lu Yizhou tried to keep as much distance as possible so as to not make Moshe wet but all his effort instantly went down the drain when Moshe climbed into his lap.
Taken aback, Lu Yizhou subconsciously tried to push him back. "Mo—" He eyed the driver. It seemed like he had seen this person in the basecamp before but Lu Yizhou still switched to the formal address. "Mr. Mo, you will get wet."
Moshe harrumphed and told the driver. He tucked his head against Lu Yizhou's damp neck without a care. "Turn up the heater."
"Aye, aye, Boss."
The chill was quickly dispersed from the car, rendering Lu Yizhou speechless. Why did Moshe suddenly become so affectionate to the point of disregarding his own image in front of his subordinate?
Amidst his confusion, the car started to glide smoothly down the road, leaving Cobalt Fang's basecamp that was currently in an uproar searching for their missing head doctor.
Lu Yizhou could only wrap his arm around Moshe's slender waist and shifted so the man could sit more comfortably. The water was quickly seeping through his clothes and cooling his skin, but Moshe was akin to a human-sized heater, very comfortable to be cuddled. He let out a defeated sigh. Lowering his voice so only the both of them could hear, he whispered right into Moshe's ear. "What's wrong with you hmm?"
Moshe sent him a glare, but it was at that moment that the headlight of another car shone into theirs and illuminated their figures. It was only a split second but more than enough for Moshe's hawk eyes to catch sight of the angry red lines on his arm. He grabbed Lu Yizhou's wrist, livid. "What is this? You're injured?"
"Ah…" Lu Yizhou recalled the time when Cruz scratched him earlier. He tried to give a reassuring smile. "No worry, it will heal very soon."
Somehow, his words made Moshe even more incensed. O-kay… Lu Yizhou was very confused now. These nail marks would really disappear in no time at all so why was Moshe acting as if Lu Yizhou had lost his entire arm?
No matter how Lu Yizhou tried to probe him for reaction, Moshe did not give an answer, silently stewing in his own anger. Honestly, Lu Yizhou couldn't help but think that the whole situation was kinda funny. Even though Moshe did not want to see him or talk to him, he still perched himself on Lu Yizhou's lap like a prideful cat, looking so endearing that Lu Yizhou wished he could smooth down his bristled fur.
However, Lu Yizhou got a hunch that he would end up making the situation worse if he did something like caressing Moshe's hair. Thus he thought for a while and decided to be honest about his concern. "You know that Cruz is the bug, I fear that—"
Moshe cut him off curtly. "Does he carry any weapon?"
"No," he answered straight away. "I checked his body before I brought him out. No tracking device either," he added wryly, recalling the mini tracker that was still planted inside his calf until this day.
"Then you don't need to worry. As long as Kaede is there, he will not be able to escape."
Lu Yizhou paused for a second. Looking at how insistently Moshe was clinging onto him, he couldn't help but wonder… had Moshe been worried all the time he was gone? The more he thought about it, the more plausible it was. A smile slowly formed on his lips, unbidden.
He dug his fingers deeper into the soft flesh of Moshe's waist and breathed hotly into his ear. "So, are you coming here in a separate car just so that you can cuddle with me? Can't bear to separate from me for too long?" He tilted his head and caught Moshe's cold earlobe between his teeth and to his delight, it warmed up in no time at all. "Hmm?"
"You—!" Moshe snapped his head up with a furious glare, scowling. "You don't know shit! You were gone for more than half an hour and—" He suddenly clicked his jaws shut, gritted his teeth and turned away with a harsh harrumph.
So his guess was right… Lu Yizhou eyed the driver who was focused on the road and replied with a more serious tone. "I told you I have my own means. You don't need to worry about me, sweetheart, because I will always come back to you." Lu Yizhou huffed out a chuckle when Moshe snorted harshly, even though his ears were starting to flush red. Recalling something, he added, "Oh and one more thing, I have destroyed the surveillance cameras along the way. They won't be able to track it back to us."
Apparently, he also had a crow's mouth because as soon as he said it, 666's urgent voice echoed in his mind.
[666: H–H–Host, not good! Zion has regained his consciousness and… and it seems like he really knows something!]
A curse slipped out of his mouth.
"What's wrong?" Moshe perked up in alert, faint concern swirled in his golden eyes.
Lu Yizhou heaved out a heavy sigh. How the fuck did everything get so complicated? This was only a D-level world, for God's sake! He dropped his head on the crook of Moshe's neck, gone was the urge to tease and maybe make out a little with his lover. "It's nothing urgent," he squeezed Moshe tighter, relishing in the warmth and comfort the man did not fail to bring him. "I will tell you when we return later."
Moshe eyed him dubiously but still grunted in approval.
They arrived at Moshe's basecamp near 10 pm and in the dark, the building looked even gloomier, almost like a haunted house. Lu Yizhou felt as if a ghost would suddenly spring out from the corner of the dark shadow but of course, everything was only his imagination. There was no ghost in this world.
They needed not to wait long for Kaede's car to catch up. Cruz was still unconscious when Kaede hauled him out of the car, dragged him into the building and threw him into the basement. He did not wake up even when his head knocked harshly onto the ground. "Ha! Look at him." Kaede crouched down to slap his cheeks a few times. "Sleeping so deeply like a baby. How nice~"
Moshe ordered with a wave of his hand, "Bring a bucket of ice water here."
"Aye, aye, Boss!" A man ran out and came back less than two minutes later with a large bucket carefully balanced in both hands. "Here I go!" He then dumped the water gleefully on Cruz, startling him awake.
"...Fuck!" Cruz sputtered like a fish out of water. He shivered and sat up with a jerk, rubbing the water away from his face. "What are you—" The words choked off in his throat as soon as he opened his eyes to see a circle of men with bloodthirsty smiles staring down at him. And among them was… Moshe!
He couldn't have mistaken it! Regius had often recounted the man's striking beauty to him. That trademark long brown hair, golden eyes and the sweet yet poisonous smile on his face… he was exactly like how Regius described him to be!
"W–What! How… How are you…" Cruz finally noticed his surroundings and all colors drained from his face the second he realized that he was in an unfamiliar place.
A hint of fear finally made its way to his eyes as he struggled to stand up and observed everyone with utmost caution. It did not take long for him to understand that he had been kidnapped into The Void's territory. When his gaze landed on Lu Yizhou who was standing half a step behind Moshe, his eyes flew wide and realization dawned on him. "It's you… You are the one who brought me here! What do you want?!"
"What we want is simple." It was Moshe who replied. His tone was bored and casual as if he was just talking about the weather. "It's just that we have someone who has been desperately wanting to meet you. Please entertain my guest, will you?"
