8.32 I Swear

Lu Yizhou knew that it was wholly inappropriate but a laugh still escaped him, unbidden. 

Ellie bristled even more, looking as if she was going to chomp Lu Yizhou's head off. "You insolent human! How dare you—" With a burst of strength that came out of nowhere, she sat up and thrust her palm straight toward Lu Yizhou's chest. 

Lu Yizhou had no time to evade and even if he did, he still would accept whatever his lover decided to give him. Blades of cold air seemed to gather along with the violent swing of that hand and when they landed on Lu Yizhou's chest…

…Nothing happened.

"Huh…?" Not to mention Ellie, even Lu Yizhou was stunned. He did not doubt how powerful that one attack was, he could practically hear how the wind blew past his ear and fluttered his hair but when they touched him… it instantly dissipated into nothing, leaving Ellie's hand on top of the swell of his breasts. 

Ellie tilted her head in confusion. He gave Lu Yizhou's boob a squeeze before pulling away and trying again. It ended up the same. Her attack was nullified before they could do any damage on Lu Yizhou, resulting in the sneaky paw on his chest that gave another two squeezes.

Lu Yizhou: "..."

He caught her hand before she could try it for the third time. "Exactly what are you trying to do, Milady?" He asked with a helpless look.

"I am trying to curse you," she answered honestly. "I am going to knock you out and put you in a nightmare spell so you can feel what I have gone through ten folds. But it doesn't work. Huh? Why doesn't it work?" She scrutinized Lu Yizhou deeply and reached out to wipe the wetness that still remained on his chin. "Is that because my power acknowledge you as mine and hence, it doesn't have any effect on you?"

"...It's possible," Lu Yizhou nodded sagely. 

There were two more possibilities though. First, he did not tell her about his newly unlocked skill 'Magic Wand'. For starters, it sounded suspicious and cringe as fuck, he did not even want to say the words with his own mouth. Second, nothing was certain yet and Lu Yizhou hated to break the news to his lover when he still had no idea what it was capable of yet. Second, he still had not checked what kind of reward he had gotten after completing the side quest of talking to Ella. So he was going to keep this one for himself first and tell her later.

"Ah… this is the worst!" Ellie plopped herself back to the bed and flailed her limbs around like a child throwing tantrums. "I have just wanted to mark you and now you're suddenly immune to my power!"

"Is that so bad?" Lu Yizhou quietly asked as he lay down beside Ellie and tucked an errant strand of hair behind her ear. "Does it feel so bad that you want to return it to me tenfold?"

"No!" The answer came so fast that it shocked the two of them, especially Ellie. Lu Yizhou suspected that if blood was still flowing under her veins, she would definitely be blushing so hard right now. Her dark lashes fluttered wildly as she squeezed her eyes and blurted out, "It's on the contrary! It feels too… mind-blowing. How unfair that I am the only one who has to go through that!"

A smile graced the corner of Lu Yizhou's lips. He brought a lock of Ellie's hair to his lips and murmured, "To be able to bring you to the height of pleasure is my greatest honor, Milady. I hope you will continue to let me do that in the future."

Ella's breath hitched, eyes wide in shock and something else. "Con…tinue…?"

"Yes." She looked so flabbergasted that it was adorable. Lu Yizhou couldn't resist leaning in to place a kiss on her cold forehead. "I will make it even better for you." 

Ellie merely stared at him for a good two seconds before she reached out to touch the spot where Lu Yizhou had just kissed. "It's warm… I think you have started to affect me too. Or else how can I possibly feel this warm?" 

She was just mindlessly muttering yet it suddenly brought the matter to the forefront of Lu Yizhou's mind. From Ella's diary he had read, Master and Madam Knox had never liked Ellie's existence — "Sister says that it's natural that she is unwanted, after all she is everything that Mommy and Daddy fears." As soon as he recalled that, it was as if a shard of ice was stabbed into his chest and twisted on the inside. It hurt so much that he couldn't breathe for a few seconds.

How could she think it was natural that she was unwanted…? What kind of insult had she received to form this kind of mindset? It was no wonder that she had always been so cold. It was no wonder that she was flabbergasted when someone offered her warmth…

Lu Yizhou scooted forward to gather her into an embrace, pushing Ellie's head to the crook of his neck.

Ellie sputtered in shock. "I—Irene, what are you—" 

Lu Yizhou hushed her softly. "Don't move. Let me just…" The words suddenly failed him. He had so many things he wanted to do for her, yet he had no idea where to start. The idea that a mere hug and kiss was enough to make her react like this was so fucking hard for Lu Yizhou to take, he had to visibly restrained himself so he wouldn't march to the third floor right now and butchered everyone one by one. Nothing was more important than Ellie right now. So Lu Yizhou focused on tucking her deeper into his embrace and made sure that she was covered in warmth. "It's okay. From now on, you won't have to feel cold anymore."

"What kind of nonsense are you saying?" She scoffed without any real heat. "I am made of darkness. I will always be cold."

"No," Lu Yizhou was persistent and nothing could change his mind about it. "From now on, I won't let anybody hurt you anymore. The whole world can reject your existence; they can fear you, loathe and despise you… but I won't. You will always have a place here, in my arms, in my heart." He carded his hair through the silky strands of Ellie's hair and declared with all the seriousness he could muster. "I swear on my love for you, Milady."

Maybe it was just his imagination but at that time, he actually saw his words materialized into a soft warm glow that gently encased the both of them.
