8.48 Do You Know?
Goddamnit, how could she be so fast?! 2
Lu Yizhou cursed under his breath as he tried to shorten the distance to no avail. He had even drunk a stamina potion for God's sake! But now, he could already feel every strand of muscles on his legs tightened painfully, in addition to the impact of the fall earlier.
Lu Yizhou did not consider himself slow. Instead, he was faster than most people even with his lacking stamina. But something was really wrong with Diana. She was moving so fast that it was getting abnormal!
Gradually, Lu Yizhou began to feel the strain. His legs turned heavier and every step he took was dragging heavily on his chest. No, he must not! He could not let Diana get away just like this! Who knew where she would have gone if Lu Yizhou lost sight of her right now?! He hollered inside his mind. [Is there anything that can make me move faster?!]
[666: O–Oh, wait! Let 666 see first! Host, why don't you try using your witch power? This is the perfect opportunity to try!]
If 666 were to stand in front of him right now, no doubt Lu Yizhou would punch it on the face. [How the fuck do I use it when I don't know anything at all?]
'Daddy, Daddy!' Ozzie tried to explain. Even in such a situation, her tone remained firm and steady. In fact, she was so calm that it gave Lu Yizhou a mental shot of composure. "Calm down, it's easy to use your power when you have already activated it meow! Try to focus inside yourself and draw out your power. Then imagine what you want to do. It's as simple as that!'
'Alright, I will give it a try.' Lu Yizhou pursed his lips. Without taking his eyes off Diana, he tried to follow Ozzie's words and sought the power inside himself. It was not difficult to draw out the power now that he had experienced as a powerful cultivator and an S-rank guide. As soon as he willed it to happen, his body started to be enveloped in a soft deep blue glow!
It succeeded!
Lu Yizhou breathed out a sigh of relief. 'Thank you, Ozzie.'
'Anytime, Daddy~' Ozzie snuggled into his cheek.
In front of him, Diana was sprinting with all her might, leading Lu Yizhou deeper and deeper into the dark forest behind the mansion. Lu Yizhou's skirt was already torn and tattered on the hem due to being caught a few times by the sharp branches. Twigs and leaves intertwined within his blonde locks, yet his silver eyes remained sharp as it was locked on the tiny figure a few distance away.
He could not understand. Diana's bright ginger hair was practically a dead giveaway amidst the dim and dready space, it was like Lu Yizhou was staring at a fire torch. Unless she could disappear with a poof, Lu Yizhou would not have let her get away. If this was a battle of endurance, then Lu Yizhou was not to be trifled with. Diana must have known that she would not be able to hide from him, so why did she choose to come here of all places?
Well, no matter what reason she might have, Lu Yizhou could not let her escape any further!
A light beam shot up from his hand straight toward the back of Diana's knees, tackling her to the ground. She let out a cry of shock and scrambled to get up. But it was too late. Lu Yizhou already caught up and stood right in front of her, his eyes a little manic due to the lack of oxygen. "Gotcha."
Diana scowled as she backed up a few steps, her eyes wary like a spooked animal. She had forgone her glasses altogether, finally giving Lu Yizhou a glimpse of her true face. Without the extreme fear carved on her stiff expression, she actually looked so young, much younger than Lu Yizhou expected. She looked like a teenager that was barely fifteen years in age!
Somehow… it made him feel like bullying a child. Fucking hell.
"What do you want?" She hissed in agitation. "Why can't you just let me go my own way and you go yours?!"
So, that was an indirect confession that both of them were indeed transmigrators. Lu Yizhou measured her with a calm gaze and said tentatively, "Why can't we do it together? Are our paths that different?"
Disbelief flashed on Diana's blue irises at his words, but then she abruptly came to a realization and sneered. "Ah I forgot. You don't have the original plot, do you?"
Lu Yizhou was stunned. Diana had the original plot at her disposal? How? She and her system were supposed to be identified as a player just like him and 666. There was no way she could have gotten the original plot. Unless 666 was truly useless—
[666: No! This can't be possible, Host! There is no way that players will be able to obtain the original plot. It defies the rule of this world and in exchange, will create disorder and chaos. Sooner or later, the world will collapse if that happens!]
[I am not finished yet.] Lu Yizhou snorted. So, excluding the possibility that 666 was truly useless, that left only two possibilities. One, either Diana or her system 404 (or it could also be both) was the bug; two, it was not the first time she had entered this mansion as a player. Transmigrators would restart the simulator to the beginning again as soon as their mission to save the villain failed. So far, Lu Yizhou was lucky that he had maintained his winning streak. If this was not Diana's first time, then either she must have been killed for real or the villain she ought to save was defeated.
He chewed on his option. Diana looked like a volatile teenager who would explode at the slightest provocation. Lu Yizhou still had a lot of things to ask her so he did not want to offend her so quickly. He chose the safest alternative; that was, to pretend he did not know anything.
He widened his eyes and said in utter surprise, "You have the original plot? How?"
Perhaps it had been too long since Diana had met someone she could talk to, or perhaps she just needed a place to vent and coincidentally, Lu Yizhou had put himself right into the position, the rims of her eyes suddenly reddened and she asked in a trembling voice, "Do you know how many times I have replayed this game again and again? No… do you know how many worlds I have been through before?"
Lu Yizhou inhaled sharply. So, his guess was right! This was indeed not Diana's first time as a player! As for how many times she had replayed the game in order to piece together the original plot, he had no idea. He looked into those sad blue eyes and suddenly felt that Diana was so fragile that she could shatter even with one poke. Those sapphire blue eyes of hers were filled with despair and hopelessness, one that Lu Yizhou had never expected he would see in a transmigrator before.
What could have made Diana look so miserable?
Her question… it was as though she implied that Lu Yizhou could not have imagined the number of the worlds she had been through before. So that was a lot, definitely more than ten. But she did not look like someone who had lost her will to live either, otherwise she would not have concocted all this scheme and strived to complete the mission.
[666: Host…]
Lu Yizhou snapped out of his thoughts with a start. 666 had never sounded so somber before that his heart immediately sank even before he knew what was happening. [What's wrong?]
[666: Do you remember… what Cyrus has once said to you before? About how they found out the existence of the bug in the first place?]
Lu Yizhou remembered. How could he not? It concerned his lover in the first place too, albeit he still had no idea what kind of connection his lover would have with the bug. Cyrus had said that… the bug had forced people to remain in the simulator forever, unable to wake up ever again…
His eyes snapped to Diana, taken aback. Could she be—
