"Poor lost lamb…" Baines murmured in a soft voice which traveled, for some reason, powerfully across the empty space. "He was trying so hard to keep himself safe, to protect his heart from being tainted that he failed to realize that he had been feeding from the darkness itself. Fear, anxiety, anger, despair… they corrupted him from inside and when he could not bear it any longer… he broke down. Such a delicate, fragile little thing…"0

"Shut up." Lu Yizhou hissed. His voice shook due to the rage and his gaze was spitting flames. Had it been tangible, then Baines would have already lay in the pool of his own blood by now. "Shut up… you don't know anything. He has never been weak."

Back then, Lu Yizhou almost died when 666 fought with 404. He was certain now, it was this version of his lover who had yanked him back into Irene's body and returned him to life. If not for him… then who knew what would have happened to Lu Yizhou now? 

However, Baines did not seem to know anything, to Lu Yizhou's surprise. The way he talked about Lu Yizhou's lover indicated that he was positive of how weak and helpless he was. That he would not be able to do anything. Lu Yizhou slowly relaxed his stance and took a few steadifying breaths to tamper his fury down.

He came to a conclusion. Baines did not know about what his lover was capable of.

His lover had never been weak. As they progressed between worlds, he had been getting stronger and stronger. 

The proof could be seen from the skill cards Ella and Ellie had given him. Without the 'Death Reaper' he would not be able to escape from the horrifying sweet dream of reuniting with his dead sister. Furthermore, the 'Silver Shield' had saved him and the two protagonists' lives from Luca's attack. That was just how powerful they were. Hence this time, Lu Yizhou chose to trust his lover too.

There must be a crucial reason as to why he could not free himself. Lu Yizhou faintly recalled the dark shadows that had clung to his lover's arm when he saw him for the first time and felt his heart squeeze painfully in his chest.

"You're only a bug," Lu Yizhou continued with a hint of sneer in his tone. "And he is the real master of this quest, am I right? You're sucking his energy out just like the parasite you are. Even when he's all chained up like this, you still fear him." 

He recalled last night, on the fourth floor quarter, Baines had insisted on coming in to check. For some inexplicable reason, he must have noticed that Lu Yizhou had snuck inside and wanted to get rid of him. However he did not expect that Ellie would be there and as soon as he heard her voice, he instantly changed his tune.

Baines sharply turned around to pin him with a murderous glare. Bingo. Lu Yizhou had hit a sore spot. He raised a brow, challenging the old man to retort.

Lu Yizhou had been prepared, that's why when Baines abruptly vanished from spot only to pop up right in front of his face, he held both arms up in reflex to deflect Baines' attack. That was a close call! If he had not moved in time, then his head would have been flying by now!

"Arrogant fool," Baines spat out, his breath smelling awfully like rotten corpses. From such a close distance, it was practically biohazard and a weapon of mass destruction. Goddamnit! "Coming here thinking that you can save him, don't you? But too bad, Milady, you will not even step out of this place alive!"

Lu Yizhou scoffed. "We will see about that."

Baines' speed was even faster than Maureen. In a blink of an eye, he had already fleeted between one space to another. He reappeared again and again, attacking Lu Yizhou's right, left, behind, above, with no clear pattern in sight. Lu Yizhou could only force his senses to their full alert and pay attention to his surroundings. As soon as the wind shifted, he would move to defend his vital points from Baines' attack.

But this could not go on forever. More and more bruises appeared on Lu Yizhou's body, especially Irene whose skin was so thin that a soft slap could remain for hours. In a matter of minutes, he became even more disheveled than when he was fighting the horde of mannequin zombies earlier. 

Lu Yizhou tried to use his witch skill 'Light Beam Attack' but before it could land, Baines had dodged and escaped completely unscathed, again and again. The skill was useless and would only drain Lu Yizhou's power.

And to his utter dismay, Baines seemed to gain speed as time passed! Damn it, he really lived up to his title as the most vicious bug!

A solid kick landed on his side, breaking Lu Yizhou's stance and sending him skidding across the floor. He gasped and clutched his stomach. Blood surged out his throat and trickled down his jaw in a steady stream. Damn it! He must have gained a serious internal injury from that one! 

His palm started to glow as his skill 'Healing' was activated passively to patch the wounds. Lu Yizhou heaved a sigh of relief.

Baines lowered his leg and stood straight with his hands behind his back, unmovable like a steel fortress.

Lu Yizhou became even more cautious as he regulated his breathing. Baines' speed was so extraordinary that he forced Lu Yizhou to remain on the defensive, unable to find the slightest opening to attack. If only… If only he had obtained agility potions, then he would be able to match Baines eye-to-eye. Not only that, there was also his skill 'Silver Gun' that was still unavailable… Lu Yizhou was certain that his fighting power would double with the presence of weapons in his hands! Alas, as it turned out, the situation was completely unfavorable for Lu Yizhou right now. 

[666: H–Host, are you okay?! What should we do…?! QAQ]

[It's okay.] Lu Yizhou assured the system. [Don't panic.]

Lu Yizhou cautiously considered his choices. Wearing the 'Invisibility Cloak' and silently assassinating Baines seemed to be the easiest method. 

However, a voice inside his mind told him that it would not be so easy. He recalled last night when Baines had stopped in the mouth of the hallway when Lu Yizhou was eavesdropping on his conversation with the two women, and also the time when he had looked back and swept his gaze around before he entered the master bedroom.

Could it be… Had Baines seen him last night? Did he only pretend not to?

If that was the case, then this bug ought to be the most annoying one Lu Yizhou had ever met!

Lu Yizhou straightened up. When sneaking around did not do the trick, then he only had one choice left: clash with him head on!

"Have you understood the discrepancy in our skills?" Baines asked with a light tone. "How many years do you think I have been doing this? In my eyes, you're worth nothing, Milady. Are you sure you still want to go on? Because after this, this servant will not be lenient anymore…"

"Cease your talk." Lu Yizhou spat out the blood pooling in his mouth. "I will drag you down even if it kills me."

"Very well." The corner of Baines' lips ticked upward. 

In that instant, the hair on Lu Yizhou's body stood on its end and warning bells wailed loudly in his mind. Dangerous! Entirely based on instinct, he jumped away in time to see Baines thrusting his hand straight into the place where Lu Yizhou's chest was! Fuck, if he had not dodge, he would have been KO-ed immediately! True to his words, Baines did not hold back anymore!

The next attack continued in the same pattern. Baines was really trying to finish him in a severe blow, as quickly as possible.

The more Lu Yizhou observed him, the weirder it was. Even though Baines was way stronger than him, he showed no signs of playing around with Lu Yizhou like Maureen did. Instead, he seemed hasty and wanted to wrap things up as soon as possible. 

As if… he was afraid that something would happen if he were to drag his feet longer than necessary. But what or… who?

Lu Yizhou did not know why, but Olivia's words suddenly echoed in his mind — "He had risen from the dead and gained a place in Heaven and at the same time, our sins were washed away. His resurrection is a symbol for atonement, redemption, and salvation."

Doubt crept into his mind.

Looking closely at his lover's current position, he indeed looked like he was crucified. Jesus died on Friday, and it was stated that the sky turned dark and rocks split open. He died and then he was resurrected into higher glory. That's how people knew that he was indeed the son of God.

Friday, the world would fall into despair for the loss of their savior. But what they did not know was that it was not permanent. 

Lu Yizhou fended Baines' hand that once again strived to pierce into his heart, grinning sharply with all his teeth bared. "You're in trouble." Lu Yizhou tested the water, albeit his tone was certain and left no room for doubt. "Tonight, you might be the strongest but after this… he will rise. He will wake up and free himself." 

Baines' pupils dilated sharply and even though he was practically a walking corpse, he still sucked in a breath. 

The sound traveled loud and clear into Lu Yizhou's ear. His grin widened. Another bingo.

With the blood and bruises on his whole body, he looked utterly savage. "I know what I have to do now." The soles of Lu Yizhou's feet suddenly caught on fire that spread rapidly throughout his whole body. Murderous intent flashed through his striking silver eyes. "I will only weaken you so that when he opens his eyes, you will be presented under his feet as a gift."
