6.89 Let It Work!

Lu Yizhou's body crashed into the rows of wooden benches like a bowling ball striking the pins, dragging them across the floor with a loud hair-rising shriek. Dust flew up to the air and the stench of blood mixing in was almost overpowering.  2

Trembling, Lu Yizhou threw up another mouthful of blood.

His condition was so miserable right now. Hair disheveled, dress torn and bloodied in many spots. So many injuries covered his body that it was hard to find a patch of intact skin. He was literally bathing in his own blood. The system notification had not stopped ringing in his mind, dutifully conveying his vital signs that had decreased up to 50%. 

Nonetheless, his silver eyes were blazing as they pinned Baines with a death glare, spitting fire. 

On the other hand, the old butler was adjusting his bloodied gloves with not even a change in his expression, truly nonchalant because he had known that in this fight… he was the winner.

As long as Lu Yizhou could not hurt his trapped lover, there was no way he could defeat Baines and win.

Lu Yizhou was still sprawled on the floor, his body twitching once in a while. 666 kept reloading his witch power but still, the maximum he could get up to was 60%. It was not quick enough to patch up the severe internal wounds in Lu Yizhou's body. Truth to be told, the pain had turned numb and Lu Yizhou could not feel his right arm and legs. He was sure that he was staying awake based on willpower alone. Had it been another person, they would have given up in the first two minutes.

Tilting his head, Lu Yizhou gazed forlornly at his lover. The burn mark was still on his arm and now, there were a few more cuts on his body that continued to pour out blood. Because he was tied in a standing position, the blood gradually flowed south and dripped to the tip of his toes, forming a small puddle of crimson on the ground.

Every drop of blood that his lover spilled was akin to salt rubbing on Lu Yizhou's wounds. It was so painful that his eyes burned. There were a few times when Baines had aimed at his vital organs on purpose. Instinct had entirely embedded itself into Lu Yizhou's blood and bones, and in the case of his life being endangered, his body was programmed to move faster than his brain and as a result, he retaliated and hurt Baines. 

Lu Yizhou would falter every single time he saw the wound blooming on Baines' body and remembered that his lover would also experience the same thing. And every single time, Baines would give him an obnoxious smirk and proceeded to corner him into another round of beating. 

Baines could have dodged. Lu Yizhou's stamina had dropped greatly and his speed was nothing to Baines. Dodging Lu Yizhou's attack was nothing to him, yet he didn't. He stood still and let himself be hurt, knowing perfectly how it tortured Lu Yizhou more than the wounds on his own body. 

Yet there was nothing Lu Yizhou could do to salvage the situation. It was so fucking frustrating! Goddamnit it!

Distressed, Lu Yizhou trailed his gaze over every single wound he had inflicted on his lover's body until he finally stopped at the face. As he took in the bloody trails running down the man's closed eyes, Lu Yizhou's pupils shrunk violently and it was as if something inside him shattered into pieces. 

He could not breathe, both from the broken ribs and the pain that surged out from the depth of his core.

He was crying. His lover was crying because of him…

He was not unconscious. He could see everything that had happened in the cathedral. The revelation blew Lu Yizhou's mind and somehow rekindled the fighting spirit in him. His lover was watching. Lu Yizhou could not let him down!

"It's… okay…" Lu Yizhou scrambled to stand on his two feet using the bench behind him as a support. His body screamed in pain and his vision swam for a second, but he forced himself to remain upright like unmovable rock. "It's okay, sweetheart. I will bring you out of here… I promise…"

The moon was high in the sky, casting a bewitching light over the chained man's body. He seemed to be glowing, but of course it could also be an image Lu Yizhou's mind had conjured up. 

"Still not given up yet?" Baines asked in an intrigued tone. "You're truly the most tenacious and forbearing player I have ever seen."

Lu Yizhou sneered as he wiped the blood on his mouth. "I have told you. I will drag you down even if it kills me."

[We can't go on like this. Do you really have no other way?] Lu Yizhou whispered inside his mind. He had even resorted to asking 666 for help, proving that he had truly been backed into a corner. 

[666: T–That… QAQ If Baines is the usual bug, then 666 is sure that 666 can devour him with 'Code Manipulation' but he is currently connected to your lover, Host. What if something happens midway…?]

666 was right. Damn it, Lu Yizhou cursed under his breath. It all circled back to the fact that Baines was connected to his lover. Every injury, no matter how big or small, would be transferred to both of them. 666 had managed to kill the bug Regius in the previous world, but he had died of agony until his very last breath. 

If… If they did the same thing to Baines this time, then his lover would also suffer the same thing!

He would rather die than to allow such a thing to happen!

Lu Yizhou ground his jaws and forced his mind to remain clear. The blood loss caused him to get dizzy and it was getting harder to breathe due to his internal injuries. At this rate, he would not stand another round of Baines' attack. Fighting head-on was not a choice, so… did he have to drag the fight until Sunday, after all? But this was still Friday night. Sunday would arrive in approximately 27 more hours. Twenty seven hours… could he remain on defensive with his current condition?

He had gone through countless battle before, but this was the first time Lu Yizhou truly felt helpless and despair. 

No! Lu Yizhou shook his head hard. He could not give up! He had come this far. There was no way he could give up here! He had made a promise, he would take his lovers out of this place and return safely to the rest station! 

Lu Yizhou clenched his fists and his silver eyes blazed with renewed fighting spirit. Seeing that, Baines raised a brow, slightly amused. In his opinion, Lu Yizhou was nothing more than a prey to be played with. He might be strong, but Baines had skillfully gripped onto his Achilles Heel, rendering him unable to do anything. Stronger did not necessarily mean that he would emerge as the winner. In this world where only the fittest could survive, only a person with great wits and viciousness could be the last one standing!

"I will offer you a deal." Baines' lips ticked upward as he gestured toward the chained man. "Kill him and you will be able to kill me. Isn't that your goal?"

That offer was so ludicrous that Lu Yizhou bark out a cold laugh. There was no force in this universe that could make him hurt his lover. "In your dreams!" 

Baines' eyes chilled a few degrees lower. "Very well." He once again teleported in front of Lu Yizhou and was surprised that Lu Yizhou did not move away. Baines' hand ended up piercing into Lu Yizhou's stomach and was held in a tight grip there. 

With blood flowing out of his mouth, Lu Yizhou grinned. A beam of light shot out of his hand and it flew… right on the chains that were trapping the man midair! Lu Yizhou had used 50% of his power on that light beam attack. If he could not hurt Baines, then at least he could free his lover from the chains that were holding him captive! 

Lu Yizhou was sure that something was off with those chains. If he could free his lover, then he might wake up!

A loud explosion erupted in the abandoned cathedral and the ground beneath them shook wildly. 

Lu Yizhou was holding onto Baines at the expense of his own life. His heart beat frantically as he waited for the dust of the storm to subside.
