8.90 Complex Labyrinth*

Lu Yizhou furrowed his brow. He did not have any experience in labyrinths before. However, judging from the scenery outside the window he had seen earlier, Ellen's room should be situated in the corner of the labyrinth. If he wanted to get out, then he only had to open the window and jump out.  0

But clearly, the mission would not be completed this way. 

Usually, people went through the labyrinth to find a way out but this time, he had to get in to complete the daily quest. Lu Yizhou suddenly felt like the situation was quite funny. Fortunately, he had a system by his side who could do an aerial scan. Before Lu Yizhou could say anything, 666 had offered itself to the task.

[666: Leave the blueprints to me, Host! 666 will surely give you a complete one!] 

The system might be absolutely useless when it came to eliminating enemies, but it was a pro in making maps! 666 swore it would definitely offer its Host the bestest, most accurate and beautiful map!

Lu Yizhou nodded in satisfaction. [Ten minutes.]

[666: *choke* T–Ten minutes is impossible! Give 666 an hour!]

Lu Yizhou was unmoved. [Five minutes.]

[Three minutes.]

[666: A–Alright, ten minutes! Ten minutes, it is! 666 will do it in ten minutes! Sheesh, Host is such a cold-blooded, cruel and bloodthirsty human! How can you bear to treat 666, this most handsome, intelligent and—]

Lu Yizhou's expression remained expressionless as 666 cursed him out inside his mind. He steadily gripped the gun in his hand and checked the safety lever. It was already off. He could shoot at any time. With a gun, Lu Yizhou was confident that he would be able to defeat whatever enemies the world would throw at him…

…as long as it wasn't a ghost.

As 666 began its job, Lu Yizhou walked forward. His footsteps did not make any sound at all. In fact, one could not even sense his breathing and presence. It was like he had melded into the darkness and became one with it. He stuck himself to the corner and peered out. There was another corridor but this time, the end led to a fork road. 

Lu Yizhou paused. So far, he had not seen another room. There was no people around him either. Exactly how big was this labyrinth?

After considering for a while, Lu Yizhou shifted his gun to another hand and pulled out a crimson dagger. This was another skill card Diana had shoved into his hands before she left. The appearance of the dagger was quite ominous with the tip of the blade slightly curved like a deadly hook.

Lu Yizhou chose an inconspicuous spot and carved a mark so that he would know if he were to go around in circles. This time, Lu Yizhou took the path to his right and soon bumped into a short flight of stairs. 

A faint conversation floated into his ears. 

"...Hurry up!"

"I… I can't…"

Lu Yizhou was surprised to hear the sound of a young girl. She was sobbing as she tried to appeal to the other. "I can't… I don't want to kill people. How… How can I…"

His companion was a male. It was unknown how long he had persuaded the girl, but he sounded a tad impatient and exasperated. "If you don't kill him, then you will suffer the consequences! Remember, the instance will not be so kind toward us. Who knows, you might even be forced to kill twice the amount of people tomorrow!"

The girl didn't answer. Only her quiet crying resonated in the air, sounding so sorrowful and aggrieved that one could not help but pity her.

Lu Yizhou figured out the gist of their predicament after that short snippet. The two of them seemed to have formed a temporary team or perhaps, they might even be acquintances in the previous quest. 

The man was persuading the girl to kill the guest, but the girl had never killed before and did not want to start. Despite himself, Lu Yizhou understood her turmoil. Killing people was a huge hurdle to cross, especially for an innocent girl like her. Once you used your own hands to kill, then the blood would stay with you until the end of your life. Not all players were accustomed to such a violent style like Lu Yizhou. 

Perhaps… this was the first and most crucial challenge for the werewolves. 

Do you dare to kill someone? If not, then can you shoulder the consequences?

But the man's words made sense too. This quest seemed like one which would double the daily mission as a punishment. 

If you did not dare to kill, then we would force you to kill twice. Neat, simple and efficient.

Lu Yizhou chose not to confront them and instead, went past the stairs to turn into another corridor. All the while, the pair never noticed his presence. In order not to make a confusion, Lu Yizhou always took the right path in every corner so he only had to go left when he returned later. Along the way, he was keen enough to notice that the floor was not always flat. Sometimes, it felt like there was an ascending slope and other times, it was descending… 

Normal people would definitely be confused when faced with this complicated labyrinth, even Lu Yizhou was starting to feel a little dizzy, not to mention that the cruise ship kept swaying lightly against the waves. People who was claustrophobic would start to panic by now. Even worse, there was not even a window which could help him discern the position he was in now. 

So far, his journey had been smooth sailing. Lu Yizhou rounded two more corners before he encountered something different.

On the floor was… banana peels?

It was hard to believe but there were indeed tons of banana peels spread in the path in front of him. The corner of Lu Yizhou's lips twitched. Who would be so idle as to put banana peels here? It wasn't like this was the world's doing, right?

[666: Sheesh, Host, not everyone's eyesight is as good as you, okay? They will already be scared shitless by the complex labyrinth. If they happen to trip on the banana peels, it will definitely mess with their psychology and make them even more panicked!]

Lu Yizhou was surprised that 666's words made sense but he did not want to admit it straight on lest the system became even more complacent. He deadpanned, [Have you finished the blueprints? It will be ten minutes soon.]

[666: QAQ] Does system not have a right to speak? So cruel! 666 immediately shut up and did not dare to let out a squeak anymore. After all, its fate was in Lu Yizhou's hands…

Lu Yizhou easily bypassed the banana peels on the ground and turned into another corner. Finally, he found a door. He could not help but let out a sigh of relief. However, when he saw the door number, he blinked in surprise.

It was 121. 

Not to mention that it was not a VVIP room, it was not even in the same area and floor! Apprehension arose in his heart. Exactly how complex was the configuration in this labyrinth? 

Lu Yizhou stood there as he recalled the passage he had taken earlier. However, the information he had was still too little. He figured that he had only explored the edge of the labyrinth and it was not enough for him to deduce the full shape. Guess he could only wait for the result of 666's blueprints…

What was more important now was to complete the hunt. He only prayed that there would be more than one people inside to spare him from the headache to search for another. Nodding to himself, Lu Yizhou changed the gun and dagger in his hands into an assault rifle, put on the silencer and aimed it toward the password lock. 

There was a muffled bam before the lock sizzled in electricity. Lu Yizhou strained his ears to make sure that no one came his way before he pushed the door open and stepped in.
