8.102 The Seer*

Lu Yizhou was quite amused seeing how enraged Ji Yan was. In one glance, it was apparent that he was in the guests camp. The way he wanted to eliminate the werewolves was too obvious. Wasn't he afraid that he would pull aggro[1] this way and end up being the target tonight?  0

Perhaps it was just how he was or perhaps he had a way to escape from the werewolves' ire. One thing for sure, he was unable to sit still when something like this happened and in exchange, he unknowingly hogged all the limelight. Really typical of a protagonist.

Lu Yizhou had spent two days with Ji Yan in the previous quest and could say that he knew the man's basic personality. Ji Yan was not the kind of stupid man who would act rashly, especially if the price he had to pay was his own life. The fact that he was clearly pulling all attention to himself meant that he had thought of the way to escape if worse came to worst.

And true to Lu Yizhou's doubt, the next thing Ji Yan spoke was, "I want to beseech Captain Rong to become my witness. These people who show signs of diarrhea must have something to do with the culprit!" He swept his gaze solemnly, took a deep breath and declared. "I have no way to prove it but I will swear on my life. In the next seven days, if I die, then my words must be the truth!"

Murmurs and speculation arose with Ji Yan's declaration. Everyone could not help but feel doubtful. This young man had bet on his life so confidently, could it be that what he said was the truth?

The sickly girl paled further as she glanced at the companion beside her in panic. The young man murmured words of comfort but it was clear that he, too, had no idea how to go against Ji Yan's suicidal declaration.

Ji Yan must have played the werewolf game before and hence he knew the procedure. His sentence was actually a trap. On one side, the werewolves would leave him alone for fear that they would be inflicted and hence, he would be safe for the time being. But on the other side, he was a guest and all guests had to die for the werewolves camp to win. When Ji Yan died, everyone would then know that he was telling the truth and convicted the people he had suspected today. He was literally playing on the edge of the blade, but this was double insurance!

You can't kill me because you're scared to be eliminated, but if you don't kill me, then you can't win. So which one will you choose?

Lu Yizhou raised his brow and his eyes landed on Olivia who had a smug expression on her face as she watched the rowdy crowd.

…As he expected. Ji Yan's brain would not be able to think of such a complicated scheme so the one who backed him up must be Olivia.

Lu Yizhou could not ascertain Olivia's position for the time being. She couldn't be a werewolf, so there was a fifty-fifty possibility that she could be the seer or the doctor. Lu Yizhou was more inclined to the latter. The doctor could save a person's life who was being targeted by the werewolves. If she used her skill to protect Ji Yan everyday, then Lu Yizhou could understand why Ji Yan would take such a great risk to expose his own identity.

As for the seer…

According to the game card 666 had introduced him to, people would tend to believe the seer's words if they pointed the werewolves out. That was, if the seer could make everyone believe their identity first.

Werewolves game card was originally a game of wits and eloquence. People could twist their words and paint black into white. Werewolves would try their best to hide in the guests' camp whereas the bold ones could even try to disguise themselves as the seer and lead public opinion. Lu Yizhou just did not know what kind of skill the seer would have in this kind of situation. They might be able to discover who the werewolves were among the guests but how were they supposed to convince everyone of that?

The commotion in the crowd was getting louder and louder. People started to look at the people showing symptoms of diarrhea with a strange look while the young man even rolled up his sleeves and tried to beat Ji Yan up.

All of a sudden, there was a booming shout that pierced through everyone's eardrums, "Silence!"

It was as if someone had just pressed a pause button to freeze the heated atmosphere. Captain Rong's expression was heavy as he asserted. "I am the captain of the ship. Every decision that involves the passengers will go through me. Is that clear?"

No one spoke, too stunned by the strong aura Captain Rong exuded.

"Good." Captain Rong narrowed his eyes as he scanned the people who were on the verge of fighting it out right there and then. "Please take a seat. I have received all of your opinions and for that, I am very grateful. Don't worry, I will definitely give everyone an account for everything that has happened!"

In a few sentences, Captain Rong managed to take the situation under control and maintain order once again. Ji Yan had no choice but to sit down even as he was still glaring at the young man whom he almost fought with.

Everyone was silent as they waited for Captain Rong's next words. Upon seeing that the situation had turned conducive, the captain nodded. "First of all, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that there is indeed a group of vicious killers on this ship." Gasps and murmurs followed after his declaration. Captain Rong's eyes suddenly turned sharp as added. "We still have no idea who they are and what their true intentions are. One thing for sure… they are definitely hidden among us!"

"This involves our precious lives and I regret to tell you that I am unable to make this decision alone. For that, I need your help. The voices of hundreds of people cannot be underestimated. We will do anonymous voting from now on. I'm sure you have your own doubts in your heart. Vote for the person whom you're most suspicious of. We will follow this gentleman's suggestion…" His eyes brushed against Ji Yan. "...and isolate the ones who receive the most votes. Any objection?"

There was no objection. The game was supposed to be played this way.

Ji Yan released a breath of relief whereas the sick werewolves all paled further. They could already guess the outcome for today's discussion. Ji Yan had taken the initiative to sow a seed of doubt in everyone's heart and he had also used his own life as the guarantor. On the first day, the guests would basically grope their way around blindly and subconsciously follow the person who had made the greatest impact. No doubt if it continued, then a portion of the werewolves would be eliminated!

However unwilling they were, they no longer had the right to speak. At this point, the more they denied it, the more suspicious they would become.

Lu Yizhou did not show any reaction knowing that his fellow werewolves would be eliminated. Instead, he was watching over everything like a passerby. Just then, Ellen tugged on their intertwined hand. Lu Yizhou turned to him and whispered in a low voice. "What's wrong?"

Ellen asked, "What are you smiling for?"

Lu Yizhou merely raised a brow. He did not even realize that he was smiling. "Waiting," he replied mysteriously.

Ellen showed a confused look. "Waiting for what…?"

Before he could reply, someone suddenly stood up. The harsh sound of the chair being dragged back reverberated in the silent space and attracted everyone's eyes. It was a young girl who had not spoken before. She had been sitting quietly in the corner of the room and her sense of presence was too thin that people would subconsciously overlook her.

At the moment, her face was pale and she was trembling under the weight of everyone's stare. She stammered with a voice so soft that if not for the deathly silence, no one would be able to hear her. "I… I know who the culprit is."

There was a pin drop silence. One second… two seconds… and then, another bout of uproar descended in the dining hall like a surging tide.

Lu Yizhou's lips curled upward as he observed the young girl.

The seer was free to choose either the werewolves or the guests camp. But once they did, they would not be able to change it again. They must stand by their camp and help the people to complete the mission.

The first day's result was a great disadvantage to the werewolves camp. Once a portion of them was eliminated, then the mission would become more and more difficult for days to come. If there was a seer in the werewolves camp, there was no way they could stand still and watch the werewolves be eliminated.

Finally… she showed herself.

[1] Pull aggro = the player who generates the most hate on a mob will be preferentially attacked by that mob. Kinda like public enemy.
